All About Bastion00

The right to post a review.

So my friend has recently brought up the fact that he wishes to build his own website for game reviews and the like. I was baited into a debate regarding some of my "habits" when it comes to playing games and reviewing; as few of those as I have done. Keep in mind that writing reviews outside of my own time and whimsical motivations is certainly not something I desire to do.. it is a simple matter of the debate itself.

I have a habit of being .. I suppose quick on deciding whether or not I find a game appealing or enjoyable, my friend claiming that my standards are bogus, or too high, and that I in this fact have no right to have an opinion of my own on any game I have never bothered finishing due to the desire to keep the contents of my stomach IN my stomach being higher in priority.

I was born into the world and was holding a NES controller before I was even old enough to speak, the Legend of Zelda being the first game I conquered at the age of four. While I will not claim to be the guru of gaming, gaming has been part of the entirety of my life.. I have, since I could understand it in concept, always enjoyed gaming and have always saught new experiences in my life long adoration for all things virtual entertainment. Point being, I'd like to think that I have a right to have some sort of refined standards when it comes to plethora of garbage spewing out of most companies these days.. Am I the only one from my era who feels this way? We've experienced the best.. Games like Xenogears, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, the classic Street Fighter games.. the list just goes on.. I'm not trying to be the Simon Cowell of the gaming world, but I'd like to think I know the difference between a good game and a heaping pile of trash.

Pointless rambling aside, it boils down to one question. Does one have a right to have an opinion? To post a review on a game they could not or refused to complete? I can understand if the game in question is story oriented, Final Fantasty 13 not included in this exception (it's not people), such as an RPG, but I've always held the opinion that a game needs the story aspect AND the game aspect, remove either one and you don't have an RPG.. If I wanted JUST a story? I would watch a movie.. read a book.. if I only wanted a game? I'd waste my time playing something like FIFA.
