I never understood the practice of region locking. Did it have a reason for existing in the first place?

I'm sure if I research the concept I'll find some explanation. It'd probably be bull, but all the same I should.

So... it's bull**** after all. The idea of preventing games in certain regions because it might be offensive is the only viable one, but in this day and age aren't we past that? What's the point of going through the hassle if virtually anyone can import whatever it is they desire from another country?

I wish the newer handhelds and consoles weren't region locked. I may have quit gaming, but I still wanted to at least try out Pandora's Tower without it costing me a leg to import a PAL Wii. I doubt it could be worse than the tripe that is The Last Story. Sakaguchi, I am disappoint.

Also, thank you Sony for not region locking the PS3. I can enjoy one of my new favorite games-- The Idolm@ster 2 --without any hassle. Well, except for the stupidity of your digital currency system.
