Hancock Movie Review

Hancock

Hancock......why they decided to call him that, I'll never know... So, after hearing that it's actually a good movie, I decided to go see it. My expectations what that it was going to suck. I was kinda surprised, but not that surprised. The movie was good, not great. It was okay. It was like a comedy/drama/action and it switched between these things kind of awkwardly if you asked me.

I think that above everything, the comedy was the best. When it wanted to be funny, it was. I thought the guy that was also the adopting husband in Juno was hilarious and I did have some laugh out loud moments. The action was pretty good. I have still yet to see when a movie can actually get a real actor flying through the air look real, because this looked pretty bad and even though the CGI for the explosions and breaking of the buildings and stuff was okay, it still didn't make me believe that it actually happened. And apart from that, the action was nothing I hadn't seen before. But, it was still entertaining.

The drama was....weird. I don't know what I felt about it. The movie started off with a great premise. Hancock needs to become a better superhero so people will like him and he fights badguys in a suit and does what a comic book superhero does. I really liked the idea and thought the movie would've been a great action/comedy. But noooooo, they had to ruin it all by putting in a twist that goes on for the next twenty-five minutes.

So the movie changed halfway through, from an action/comedy that was doing goood for itself. Over to a drama/action where the action got way less exciting and the drama just felt out of place. Another thing that completely confused me was when Hancock is fighting someone and then these robots come down from the sky by lightning and start walking around everywhere. Then the fights over, scene cuts to the morning. And it never mentions the robots again!!!!!! Not even the whole storm, hurricane, lightning, none of it!!!!!!!! That anoyed me the most and I saw it with three other friends and me and two more (the other missed it apparently) were all asking eachother about wtf happened with the robots.

So if I had to score it...I don't really know what to give it. On one hand, I thought the first half was good and probably should be about 76% if the movie continued on with that premise. But the movie didn't and turned its back on me and so now I guess I gotta go with the other option:

I give Hancock: 67%

Kung-Fu Panda Movie Review

Kung-Fu Panda

What attracts people to this movie? Is it the premise? The trailer? Nope, none of those. What it is, is the voice-acting cast. Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan. Lucy Lui, Angelina Jolie, Jack Black and Seth Rogen. That's what made people go see this movie. So me and my friend went to see it just because of the cast, and guess what? The only people in that cast with more than about four lines was Angelina, Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman! So obviously, that should've made me angry, right? Well no, because this movie didn't even need those other three people in it, it could've had random janitors off of Redfern for all I care! Because this movie was hilarious and the action was awesome!

The movies about Po (the panda, aka, Jack Black) going up to the Jade Palace to hear the announcement of the Dragon Warrior. A warrior who will bring peace to the town. Po tries to get over the palace walls and accidentally drops in front of the master as he's pointing down at Tigress (Angelina). So Po now has to become the Dragon Warrior. Also, Tylon (an evil tiger, banished into prison after going on an angry rampage because he wasn't allowed to become the Dragon Warrior) has escaped and Po must train up so he can defeat him. What follows is hilarious scenes with some amazingly done action.

The action is usually done using some freeze shots or bullet time moments which show some cool moves being pulled off. There are heaps of action scenes and all of them are extremely entertaining both comedy-wise and action-wise. Especially the one when the five kung-fu champions go off against Tylon over a rickity bridge, that was sooo cool!

Now the best thing about the comedy was that it's appealing to all ages. Because it was a PG movie, there were kids ranging from 3 years old to grandparents. So there were teens, adults, grandparents and babies. And everyone laughed at all the jokes, which is quite a feat to pull off. So it was good to hear everyone laughing from the little cute baby laughs to the big and manly laughs of the adult male. What was the best thing about the movie? Seeing everone walk out of it smiling and laughing! And I might just go out and rent the game tomorrow!

I give Kung-Fu Panda: 79%

My 5 Most Anticipated Movies for the rest of 2008 and 2009!

2008

Keep in mind that I live in Australia so maybe these movies are already out on DVD in your country or came out ages ago. These are all movies that haven't come out yet that will in the next six months (July-December).

2009

These are movies that I've been looking forward to from up to 6 years ago!!!! 2009 seems to be the best year for movies so far for me. But I am not sure whether these movies will come out in 2009 or not, so don't quote me on this.

Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, John Connor (Christian Bale), the man fated to be the leader of the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators, and the future he was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a Terminator whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they find out a terrible secret that may lead to the possible annihilation of mankind.

It is coming out on May 22nd, 2009 and the teaser trailer will be released along with The Dark Knight. Schwarzenegger might make a cameo appearence in it but will not be a main role as of his government duties. The director is doing it in a way so that it will get a PG-13 rating. He says he's doing it that way because he wants the movie to go to a wider audience but still stay intact with what made the Terminator series what it is today.

A remake is in production. The Director is Martin Campbell (GoldenEye, The Mask of Zorro, Casino Royale), Michael Bay is one of three prodcuers and Naomi Watts will star as the main role.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. According to Director, Michael Bay, they now have a much bigger budget thanks to the huge sucess of Transformers, so now the Transformers will have a bigger role and the effects will look even better than they did in the first movie. All the actors will return to their original roles.

AND NOW FOR THE MOVIE I'VE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO FOR 6 YEARS!!! THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE IN MY OPINION!!!!!!! HERE IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERE!

Not much is known about this movie due to many script changes and actors not being able to return to their original roles. But never fear, I still believe it will come out next year as they said that the filming will begin in 2008.

The Incredible Hulk Movie Review

The Incredible Hulk

I was in a bad mood because of the disappointing Get Smart, so what was I to do? The answer was to call up a friend and see a movie called The Incredible Hulk! And did it get me in to a good mood? Absolutely. Iron Man, Hulk, Batman, movies based on comics seem to be doing very well this year. We can forget Elektra, Catwoman, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, because now it seems like people are finally doing something right, and that it will stay that way for a long time.

This movie was AWESOME for so many reasons. For one, the story was just about him trying to find a cure while running from the government. And he fights the government along the way! Yay! There was some lame love story between him and Liv Tyler (we'll talk about her later...) But just like Iron Man, the movie switched between the story and the action very well.

So the acting was good for all the actors except Liv Tyler. I dunno what it was about her. But she had the same look on her face through the whole thing and she sounded as if she was having a org....well you know what I mean. Let's just say that she seems like she's always breathing out when she's talking.

Now for the important part. The action. It's nothing short than awesome. Just like Iron Man did, the action was perfect for the character and couldn't of been done any better. The Hulk had every power you remember. From the wall climb, metal boxing gloves, sonic clap, even to Hulk Smash! This movie has it all. And in every action scene, you can really see just how powerful the Hulk is. And then there's the Abomination, crazy stuff, he's like the Hulk but even stronger and watching the two of them fight is really something you need to see on the big screen. Their punches sound awesome and very powerful and the way....I should stop now or I'm going to give too much away! But yes, the action is perfect for the Hulk and if the comics had to be turned into a movie, this movie does it perfectly.

So if you wanted the Iron Man movies level of awesomness but wanted it to be about Hulk instead, then this is the perfect movie for you. The dialogue might not be great and the acting might not be as good as Iron Mans. Oh and Iron Man did have the better story, and it was bloody hilarious to top it all off. But what I'm saying is, this is the perfect Hulk movie. And I know there may be a sequal, but I just hope they don't do it because the beauty of this movie was seeing the Hulk do all of his signiture moves on the big screen, in the sequal they really don't have anything awesome to show us anymore and so, I dunno, guess we'll just wait and see!

I give The Incredible Hulk: 81%

Get Smart Movie Review

GET SMART (spoiler alert)

No, I've never seen the show. I saw this movie for one reason only, Steve Carell. I'm a huge fan of his and ever since Bruce Almighty I've loved him. I think all his movies are great (yes even Evan Almighty) but unfortunately I do have to admit something I never thought I'd admit before.

Now, I did like this movie. I didn't love it, I didn't even think it was great. I just liked it, it was good. However, it had some things in it that were either lame or very cliche. Cliche parts: Good guy is bad guy (If you consider that a spoiler then you should watch more movies), a big bad guy who ends up turning good because main character asks him about love and the bad guy boss always treats him bad, there's a long joke in it centered on 'it's funny because she's fat', there's a joke where the main character is asking questions like 'Now we just have to find out where he is' and the answer is right behind him and all the other people are telling him to turn around but he keeps on talking, and lastly, a part where you think he's dead but, no, can it be? YES! HE'S ALIIIIIVE! So that's the lame cliche things in it I absolutely dispised.

Okay, so the humour. I can't believe I'm saying this. But there's only so much of Steve Carell saying something funny with a serious look on his face that one man can take. It's obvious he has now made a profile for himself and what kind of actor he is. Will Ferell has the very random humour, Jim Carrey is the crazy humour, and Steve Carell is the 'say something funny or random with a very serious look on your face' humour. It was funny in Bruce Almighty, it what funny in Anchorman, it was funny in 40 Year Old Virgin, but I'm sorry, it wasn't funny in SOME parts of this movie.

Notice that I said some because there were funny parts in this film. The fat guy from Borat (Does anyone know his name?) had his moments but Dwayne Johnson and Anne Hathaway just came out flat for me. I don't think Anne should be in comedies and personally, I thought most of the actors in it acted too much like they knew they were in a comedy. And so they said things that were meant to be funny with so much exageration that it was just lame. This is especially true for the two computer nerds in it. (If you see the movie I swear that you'll agree with me that they just acted like they belonged in some lame sitcom on the Disney Channel).

The story, meh. I mean, it wasn't even good. They could've at least came up with a better story. Even Johnny English had an original story. 'Bad guy makes bomb, bad guy hides it somewhere, good guy needs to find where the bomb is but also try and get with the girl'. That's not original.

Okay, I just realised most of what I've said have been negative. Maybe it is because I had very high expectations for this movie. Maybe not. But again, it did have its moments where I did have a good laugh. So you know, it's funny, yes. But there are some parts in it that were just so lame and some of the jokes were so bad that you forgot that there were funny parts that made you crack up.

Oh and before I get someone saying 'MAYBE BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE SHOW, THAT'S WHY YOU DIDN'T LIKE IT. YOU SUCK!' I will say that yes, maybe that was the reason I didn't like it that much. I do understand that there were some personal jokes in it that were between the viewers of the show and the movie, and when I say that some of those jokes were bad, I am not refering to those because I did watch a review for this on youtube a few days ago and the guy explained all the jokes in it that were from the show.

So should you see Get Smart in the movies. No. Should you rent it, yes. But again, this is my opinion. I'm not saying this movie IS average, I'm saying that I THINK it's average. If you don't agree, please say why, just don't put any lame comments because you loved it and I'm an idiot for not loving it.

I give Get Smart: 63%
