Shows I need to watch - Update

Only two blogs ago, I listed a bunch of shows that I needed to watch. They were:

    • Burn Notice
    • Heroes
    • Numb3rs
    • Rome
    • The X-Files
    • Arrested Development
    • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
    • Angel
    • JAG
    • All of Star Trek

Well, I caught up with Burn Notice a while ago. I've watched the last few episodes as they aired. Its an excellent just for fun show. A hero of the week show.

    Every week, the main character, ex-spy Michael, is hired by someone different to do a job for them. Usually getting them out of trouble with criminals. Gangs, drug dealers, weapons dealers, con men. Every week we learn new spy tricks from Michael. And every week, Michael goes under cover as a different character. Its quite amazing that he can come up with so many different ideas of characters. Helping Michael, are an old, laid-back army friend, Sam, played by Bruce Campbell;

and his slightly psychotic but extremely sexy, former IRA operative ex-girlfriend, Fiona.

Burn Notice's continuing story is of Michael trying to figure out who put out the Burn Notice on him, which is like a memo sent to all agencies saying he can no longer be trusted. He has seen his file and it reads like fiction. He has made some progress, and has met with ppl who work for ppl who may have burned him. He still doesnt know why, or why him, but they want to use him for something.

In other news, my library carries all seasons of Buffy and Rome, so those will be checked off my list eventually. And my bf has both seasons of Heroes, but he forgot them with his sister half way across the country. We are going back for her wedding next week. I will not forget them this time.

And I would like some input on one subject. I went to see The X-Files: I Want to Believe, and I really didnt like it. I didnt like the story or the pace or the mood. Was it a good example of the show? If it is, I'll skip The X-Files.

And lastly, I borrowed Deep Space Nine from my sister, who owns all seasons. I am not even through season one. Star Trek is not known for its arcing stories. Its hard to stay interested. Maybe into season 2 the characters will at least be developed enough for me to want to continue watching. I thoroughly enjoyed Voyager and Enterprise, and they are considered the worst, so I should be able to get into DS9 with time. My favourite characters are Odo and Bashir. IMO, Voyager and Enterprise had the best ST babes. Not a big fan of Jadzia. Her character his rather bland, and she is only pretty compared to Seven and T'Pol who were damn hot, and very strong women.

    My favourite TV couples

    10. Simon and Kaylee - Firefly

    Simon/Kaylee Fanvid

Simon and Kaylee are the cutest and most innocent couple. How could you not be glad they finally hooked up?

    9. Jack and Kate - Lost

    Jack/Kate Fanvid

Jack and Kate are clearly meant to be together. It kept them going through it all. The only reason they broke up was because Jack is too jealous and Sawyer gets in the way. Sawyer has not been as annoying in the last season, but there is still no way he could be right for Kate. She only slept with Sawyer to make Jack jealous, which really back fired. He never trusted her in things "Sawyer" ever again. Yes, they have issue, but if they could only work through them.

    8. Mick and Beth - Moonlight

    Mick/Beth Fanvid

Vampire love is just hot, what can I say. Plus, Mick really loves Beth, he gave up mortality for her.

    7. Mal and Inara - Firefly

    Mal/Inara Fanvid

Another complicated couple. The only way for them to be together is for her to give up her whole way of life. Then, there is also the fact that he is completely oblivious to her feelings. They both seem quite lost without each other, but its just so complicated.

    6. Logan and Max - Dark Angel

    Logan/Max Fanvid

They clearly love each other, and the fact that they cant be together, due to bizarre genetic manipulation, makes me want them together even more. As much as Max is trying to help Logan move on, by pretending she already has, Logan still loves her. There is nothing she can do to change that. They wasted the time they had together, never realized how it could be taken away. And now, that they badly want to be together, they physically cant.

    5. Marcus and Susan - Babylon 5

    Marcus/Susan Fanvid

Susan is the strong, independent, confident military woman; and Marcus is the intelligent, quiet, loyal soldier that silently loved her for years. They were friends, but not extremely close, and Susan was perhaps attracted to his noble character, but I dont think she had any clue how he felt, until she woke up from being mortally wounded, and found him next to her, dead, hooked up to an alien device that transferred his life energy to her. I was especially impressed with their relationship because of how subtle Marcus was. Staring at her while she slept, telling her she's beautiful in an alien language. And thats the way it is a lot of the time. Completely unspoken. And it was one sided until the end. Susan didnt even realize how she felt until he was gone. Extremely tragic.

    4. Henry and Vicki - Blood Ties

    Henry/Vicki Fanvid

Henry and Vicki's relationship is more passion than anything, and that is a good thing and a bad thing. I like relationships with a real emotional connection, but the intensity of Henry's passion is hard to resist. Being a 480 year old vampire, and being as gorgeous as he is, he has inevitably had numerous lovers over the centuries, and it is difficult to see Vicki as more than a notch on his bedpost. But, at the same time, he seems to care for her as much as, and maybe a little more than, any other woman he has spoken of. He sees his whole existence as a series of different lives, with a woman for each life, with love as real as the last. And Vicki? Well, Vicki, Vicki....She is probably partly afraid, and partly feels she doesnt deserve him. Then there is the lame excuse she gave Henry. That he will have many more lifetimes, but Mike will only have one, so she must pick Mike. This implies that she thinks he can live without her, perhaps because she doesnt think she is worth loving, which brings us back to she feels she doesnt deserve him. Sigh. All you need is love!

    3. Daniel and Vala - Stargate SG-1

    Daniel/Vala Fanvid

Daniel and Vala are perfect opposites. They are the type of opposites who complete each other, not drive each other nuts. Ok, maybe they did at first, before they realized that they were perfect for each other. Technically, they still havent figured that out, since it was in an alternate timeline. That doesnt mean that they dont care for each other, they just dont know it yet. Vala clearly cares a great deal for Daniel, but is afraid of rejection. So, she "jokingly" offers herself to him daily, hoping deep down he might finally accept. But knowing the chances are slim, the rejection wont hurt as much if he doesnt know she was serious, or that she was offering an emotional relationship, not only physical. Both seem to have more of a purpose in life since they met. They both seem more fulfilled. Vala wants to make up for her shady past, and prove herself to Daniel by helping to rid the galaxy of evil, and Daniel does everything he can to support Vala and help her through difficult changes. They already seem happier then they have been in a very long time, and their happiness could be complete together. This video is a perfect portrayal of their relationship. Except it cant show how they finally let everything out in the alternate timeline. I couldnt find a clip of that.

    2. Jack and Sam - Stargate SG-1

    Jack/Sam Fanvid

Jack and Sam you cant help but feel sorry for. They have been in love for going on 12 years, and have only kissed a handful of times, never under natural circumstances, alien influence, alternate realities, etc. Due to the chain of command in the USAF, they are unable to have a relationship. They have risked their lives together countless times over most of those years, and faced death together. They know the best and worst of each other. They know each other better than many who have been married for several years. If only they could complete that with actually hooking up. After 12 years, how do they keep their composure around each other? We know, thanks to Joseph Mallozzi's blog, that it is not because Sam has given up hope. It is unfortunate that the last scene of the video didnt really happen.

    1. John and Aeryn - Farscape

    John/Aeryn Fanvid

John and Aeryn are the ultimate TV couple and Farscape is the most romantic sci-fi series you will ever find. They have enough of a relationship for you to know it is happening and not have to argue with shippers, but they dont get together for a very long time as to not kill the tension too soon. But, from season one you know they love each other very much. Aeryn doesnt know what she wants because she was raised and trained to be a soldier and nothing more. And John is trying to understand her half the time. But, by the end of season 4, when they are finally together, and John risks everything to rescue Aeryn from the Scarrans, you are just amazed at how much they love each other. Aeryn, being tortured for days, never giving up hope for a second that John was already on his way to rescue her. There is no doubt in my mind that John and Aeryn had the strongest and most realistic love ever portrayed on TV. This video is a perfect portrayal of their relationship.

    Shows I need to watch

Im really behind on TV shows I wanna watch. There are a lot of shows that look great and I cant keep up. It really doesnt help that I dont have cable or satellite. And for those of you who are down with the torrenting, well, so am I, I just have crappy internet service. So, I am kinda stuck. My bf downloads new episodes of the shows I watch for me:

    • Stargate Atlantis
    • The Tudors
    • The Big Bang Theory
    • Eureka
    • Terminator
    • Moonlight, Blood Ties, and Jericho before they were canceled.
    • Or I wacth the ones I catch on my basic antenna. Bones, NCIS, and Lost. But I prefer not to do that because sometimes I miss things because its so snowy.

But there are still some shows that I am seasons behind on. I dont want to buy seasons of shows I dont even know if I like. I could watch a few new episodes and see if I like it, then I will know if buying the boxset is worth it. But I dont like jumping ahead.

So, here are some shows that I think look interesting:

    • Burn Notice

    Burn Notice S1 Boxset

This show looks like a lot of fun. Outside of hardcore sci-fi, there are no particular genres I like. I watch whatever is good. Its hard to categorize, so theres no real reason why this appeals to me, besides the fact that it looks fun, and I absolutely love Gabrielle Anwar. I have for most of my life, ever since I saw her in Wild Hearts Cant be Broken

    and The Three Musketeers

    Queen Anne

when we were both much younger.

    • Heroes

I watched the first two or three episodes of this, but then stopped because it was too gory for me. But so many ppl have told me I need to start watching it again because its not gross anymore. I have also heard that the second season wasnt as good. But I heard so many amazing things about the first season that I would like to see it and decide for myself.

    • Numb3rs

I watch a lot of crime dramas, and one reasons why Bones is my favourite is the fact that it focuses on a specific area of crime solving. Unlike CSI or Crossing Jordan where scientists do all the work. Also, I love nerds, like the character of Reid in Criminal Minds. I love when they try to show how his mind works, its amazing.

And here are some canceled shows that I can catch up with without getting even further behind:

    • Rome

This is my bf's favourite show of all time. He likes to say that his top five shows are Rome, Rome, Rome, Rome, and Lost. I love historical dramas, and history in general (it was my favourite subject in school), but my favourite time period is the late middle ages and renaissance, in England and France. Especially the Tudor period, so obviously I watch The Tudors. He is also a big HBO fan, so he feels I really should raise my standards and watch Rome instead. Well, I guess I can settle for both.

    • The X-Files

Being such a big sci-fi fan, why have I not watched the second longest running American sci-fi series? Because it scared me. Lol. I saw I think 3 episodes when I was about 13, and it really creeped me out. But its gotta be good. I'm just disappointed that theres no way I could catch up before the movie comes out.

    • Arrested Development

This show is brilliant. Its another one that was recommended to me. I had heard the name before but hadnt the slightest clue what it was about. I caught a few episodes on TV afterwards, and it really is brilliant. As I read in a Entertainment Weekly article, I dare you to try to fit more wit into 20 minutes.

    • Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Considering how everyone has seen it, I'm really behind on this one. I have seen one episode, and it was so long ago, and such a distant memory that it hardly counts. It just always seemed silly to me. But almost everyone I know on this site, meaning all of you reading this , are a fan of Buffy. I never thought anything of it, until I recently recommended Moonlight to my sister and she recommended Angel to me. She prefers Angel over Buffy, but if I watch one, I will watch both. And another thing is that its Joss Whedon, and who isnt a Whedon fan?

    • Angel

I admit, something about Angel does seem better than Buffy, but I guess I'll find out. It will be hard getting used to David Boreanaz not grinning all the time.

    • JAG

My parents used to casually watch this when I was younger. That makes me sound really young, but this show did premier in '95, when i was 11. I remember it was pretty interesting. I also more recently watch the NCIS crossover/premier.

    • Star Trek Franchise

I would definitely call myself a Star Trek fan, but not a trekkie. I have seen all of Enterprise, about 70% of Voyager, 15% of Deep Space Nine, 40% of The Next Generation, and 10% of the original. I really want to see all of all of them, especially Voyager and DS9. I have borrowed DS9 from my sister and am 12 episodes in. I know I like them all, catching episodes here and there on TV, and I especially love all the Star Trek movies.

I sure have my work cut out for myself.
