GTA4 first impressions

So far, so good. I must admit I'm not a huge fan of GTA series, but I did enjoyed Vice City so I tought this was a good chance to go back into GTA world (who am I tryin to fool? I've played every GTA released, but Vice City was actually the only one I played from head to toe), and I was right: this game surely deserves to be played.

Awesome everything: graphics, sound (soundtrack from radio stations inlcuded), storyline, driving trough the city, etc. Blood and violence are as good as expected and the charactres are just perfect; the dialogues are good enough to keep you hooked to the screen until you need to do something esential to your survivor (you know, all that human stuff like eat, sleep and take a... dive into the bathroom)

I'm not going deep into the game right now, cus I wanna save the good sttuff for my review, so for now I say goodbye. I'm still "working" on the single player mode, but soon I'll be checking out the multiplayer and I'll write a small blog entry bout it.

Enjoy it!!!

GTA4 season is OPEN!

Yeah! Finally! today arrives the 1st cargo of GTA 4 into my country (Mexico) and, of course, one of those little green boxes is already reserved for me.

So, this is gonna be, pretty much, a GTA4 weekend. I'll write about my first impressions of the game as the gameplay hours pass by

MMORPG or FPS?

It comes a time in the life of every man when he should take important decisions; take the right one and you'll be granted with a plain life full of happiness and fortune, take the wrong one and you'll have a slumbered life of unconscious pain and you'll ask for death to take you away ASAP.

I'm facing one of those decisions. MMORPG or FPS? Darn, I wish I hadn't buy that Atari2600 in the first place! Darn I wish I'd never visited that arcade around the corner! Well... it's too late for regretting. Here I am now and I should face it as a person who has videogames constantly burning inside the veins.

I used to be a typical FPS gamer who, from time to time, played other kind of games. Yeah, yeah, I started with Pacman, Mario Bros., Pole Position and stuff like that, but then Doom showed up, followed by Doom 2, Heretic, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, etc, etc, etc. (I must admit I skipped Counter Strike... I know, I know: shame on me!).

In the mean time I started to develop some tasty humour for the RPGs. We all played Castlevania and Zelda, right? But some of us stopped right there, at least until Final Fantasy VII was born. FFVII brought a lot of gamers back to the RPGs. I know there are other legendary RPGs that deserve a special mention (like Chrono Trigger) but nobody can argue that FFVII is one step above them all.

So, here's the deal. I've been playing GoonZu Online for over a year, which is a very interesting MMORPG that has it's strength on it's way to handle politics and economics, not to mention how interesting PD (manufacture) system they got (PvP sucks though), and I'm currently also playing Call of Duty 4 online on my Xbox360 (just got back to it a week ago). I've been thinking in maybe give a try to other MMORPG (WOW, Guild Wars, Everquest... there are a lot of interesting options) and, also, now that I started playing CoD4, I felt like I want to install again my old Wolfenstein Enemy-Territory, which is a game I played for over a year and I stopped playing it like 2 years ago. Another option I'm seriously considering is Half Life 2.

However, the dilemma is quite simple: there's no time for both genres. One of them will have to become 2nd in my priorities list. I'm not talking about deciding the games I'm gonna play (that will be a dilemma I'll have to solve after this one), I'm talking about what GENRE should I consider my main.

Both genres are amazing, provide a lot of options (different games) and have very lively communities online. But, at the same time, both genres require a lot of time if you want to be one of the best members of your community. Dedicate a lot of hours to it or get pwn3d. And no gamer likes to be pwn3d all the time, right? When I play an online game, I bust my... brains for reaching the top places and gain myself a little respect from other players. Every gamer enjoys to have a name that inspires fear, respect and admiration.

In order to achieve all this, I need to pick one: MMORPG or FPS. Which one would you chose?

Back!

Hey, I'm back! I know, I know, I'm always promising I'll be more active and all that, but sometimes real life rules and I'm sure all of you can understand that. Anyways, I hope to include myself in the "Gamespot's lifestyle daily role" again asap.

I'm working in a couple Reviews atm that I'm sure you'll like. As usual, I'm really doing my best in giving you a decent thing to read. As a little advance, I'll tell you that right now I'm just about to finish my Bioshock's Review, so, expect it soon included in my profile.

Have an awesome day, week, month, year, life... and see you soon

Level 10!

Despite of the fact that I've been a little inactive in the past days, I celebrate the achievement. I've finally reached the 10th level as a member of GameSpot and that gives me a lot of satisfaction. This is, mostly, thanks to you who check my profile and my contributions. I know there are not a lot of people tracking me, but as soon as I know that there's somebody interested in what I write here, I'll keep doing it.

Thank you, guys (and girls... if there's any reading this hehe).

Say NO to piracy.

Say NO to piracy

Piracy or the use of copyrighted material without permission, is a sickness that surrounds and affects us all. There are, of course, different kinds of piracy, but we will focus on the software piracy related to the games, though I'll give some general information about the subject.

It is a permanent temptation for all of us to get a game for no more than 3 or 5 bucks, isn't it? If you want to buy an original newly released game for a last generation console, you're going to have to say goodbye to at least 40 or 50 dollars, and that if the game is cheap and if you bought it in the USA. But, of course, if you choose to follow the dark path, if you surrender to the dark side of the force, you can get more than 10 games for that amount of money; of course, you won't have a manual, guarantee and all that stuff, "but who cares?!" you would say, "I got the latest an greatest games in the market almost for free. I'm so cool!". I'm sorry to tell you this, but you're far from being cool because of that. In fact, that makes you a thief who doesn't deserve the effort of those who took the time to develop that awesome game you're playing.

Let me show you some information I found in a quick search on the internet:

-Software piracy is theft, with a lot of involvement by organized crime.

-Software is the fastest growing industry in the United States.

-Larger than almost all the manufacturing industries.

-It contributes to the economy of every state in the U.S. and virtually every nation in the world.

-During 1996, software piracy resulted in up to 130,000 lost jobs.*

-Tax Revenues would have been $1 billion higher if piracy had not been a factor in 1996.*

-Creating and writing software programs often requires thousands of hours of intellectual work. If developers do not get paid for their efforts they will not continue doing it.

*Sorry for the 1996 info, but that's what I got at hand. Imagine how the numbers are these days!

If you don't own me, don't use me!

Still thinking you're cool because you buy pirate game copies? As you can see, piracy affects us all in one way or another. We, the gamers, are always expecting better games, with better looking and more detailed graphics, new and advanced gameplay, astounding story, phenomenal sound, and so on. Well, the less piracy we have, the better games we'll get because the game developers will have more money to invest on it. As simple as that.

The piracy even makes our games more expensive! If there were no piracy at all, the original game sales would be higher (much higher), and so the price would be lower.

Not to mention all the jobs that doesn't exist anymore or will never exist thanks to the software piracy. One of those jobs could be YOUR JOB in a future! Think about this the next time you pretend to buy a pirate copy.

If you agree with me on this, let me tell you that there's more that you can do against piracy than just not buy pirate copies. I'm not talking about making a manifestation in the middle of the 5th avenue or something like that; I'm talking about a much easier way. You just have to tell your friends what you're reading here; explain to them how much damage they do when they buy a pirate copy of a game and motivate them to save some money to get the original game.

When you make some sacrifice to save the money to pay an original game, the reward is much higher; I've seen guys with tons of games (all of them are, of course, pirate copies) and they never really finish any of them, because they don't really appreciate what cost them so little.

Nokia N-GAGEThe piracy problem gets even worst in some countries, such as China or my homeland Mexico. There (or here) you can fin a pirate copy of anything in almost every store that sells any sort of software. The informal economy is as usual as the daily bread. You can even find pirate games and movies in the middle of the street, where everybody, including the authorities like the policemen, can see them. It's such a growth problem that is no longer in the hands of the goverment to solve it, so we have to do our part to stop this or else this will keep growing and the consequences will be irreparable.

To the 'Lemmings', 'Sheep', 'Crabs' and 'Hermits'.

I see in the GameSpot forums, particularly in the System Wars section, a lot of gamers known as 'fanboys' claiming their love for some specific console system. 'Lemmings' (Microsoft fanboys), 'Sheep' (Nintendo fanboys), 'Crabs' (Sony fanboys) and 'Hermits' (PC fanboys) dedicates their time to fight for proving that the system they use is the best of all. I wonder how many of that 'fanboys' use pirate copies for gaming? If you're one of those 'fanboys' that plays with pirate copies, then you can stop claiming your love for your preferred system, because you can be considered as a traitor to the cause and should be ashamed of yourself.

In a few words: To buy original games benefits us all. I know it's not easy, but it worth the effort.

I've created a petition in PetitionOnline.com to all the gamers in the world, asking them to buy only original games. I invite you to sign it here . Do your part.
