Just when I was tricked into thinking 2013 had gotten off to a good start, I got punched in the teeth, and kicked in the balls.

NOTE: Not in reality, just hypothetically.

As 2012 came to a close I was in some really good discussion with management at my company about the reasons why I was not going to get paid any sales commissions that I earned during the year. I really thought they saw the light on their thought process, and where they made critical mistakes in the interpreation of my sales plan. As we crossed the date line into 2013 I was told "We see your point, and will go back and review everyting"

Today I was told I would not be getting nearly $14k in sales commission from last year, with no real explination as to why. It is what it is and I have to move on, get over it, so I am told. And, my sales plan for 2013 will be coming to me "sometime in the near future"...... LMAO...

Also.... ahhhhh never mind.

I recognise that behaviour. It's called "being a corporate employer".

****holes.

My company promised people bonuses last year then quietly just gave everyone stock which couldn't be sold for 3 years, subject to still being an employee. Gee, thanks. And it is worth less now than it was when it was granted... sheesh.

Typical.

Employee- Guys, I deserve this money I ACTUALLY MADE.

Management/Corporate- You make a great case, we'll go over it with you and everything will be cool!

*Management/Corporate pretend to give a damn while not actually reviewing anything*

*Sometime later*

Hey bro, we decided... nah.

That is really bad. It seems like you have been royally stiffed as that is a lot of money to be missing out on. I like you're attitude though and I tend to think that when something like that happens you can either fight it or accept it. Too many people I work with would moan about it incessantly while doing nothing. Still, it's a pretty scummy move on their part.

@-INKling- I did fight it, in what I thought was the proper way. I laid out my case, gave them information that maybe they did not see/have and hoped for the best. I could have gotten mad and said/done things that I would probably regret, but that's counter productive and usually gets people nowhere.

I hope by move on you have decided to look elsewhere for work where they will appreciate you more and pay you what you are worth as well.  I also would also lawyer up on this matter if you in fact did sign a contract between you and your employer that stated you would be getting the money for your services...  and could prove that they in fact that they did break the contract.

@Sandpiper121PP I probably will be looking, but there are so many perks with my current position that I have to weigh them against anything else I might come across.

Sounds like they just destroyed any incentive to work for them.

@WalkingP It sure has, but I am willing to move forward and past this and make sure it does not happen again.

I too would consult a lawyer about this decision. I wouldn't take that lying down. :)

@Vkain That always sounds like a good idea, but in reality in this situation it would be like going after a family member. We are a small, private company where I know everybody from the Owner on down (there are 6 of us in the office). Have worked with them for 8 yrs.

@Gen_Warbuff I see. Oh Well, that stinks. Perhaps they can compensate you in some other way.

I hope that doesn't become a pattern.

@Travo_basic I really don't think it will. It's the first time in 8 yrs something like this has happened, and looking forward it seems there will be different checks in place to make sure everybody is on the same page.

"... not going to get paid any sales commissions *that I earned*..."

Hang on, isn't that theft?

Gen_Warbuff

@s_h_a_d_o It's a complicated issue, it's not "theft" it's just how they looked at "numbers" and we all know you can make "numbers" say anything you want them to.

yeesh...I tell you, companies don't care about anyone but themselves...they don't care about people!

@pokecharm It's not so much that they don't care, we are a very small, family owned, private company. I have known my boss for about 13 yrs, have worked with him at two different companies. The owner, who has very little hands on with the company is a VERY generous and over the course of 8 yrs has given more to employees in profit sharing that I could have ever imagined.

@theslimdavylp see my comment to Pokecharm above. I can't lawyer up..... and if I did, it would eat up  most of what is owed to me!
