I have been told by a lot of people that I am a trophy hunter, trophy whore, trophy collector. I just want to clear things up. I play a lot of different games, I have a great job with extra, disposable income, therefore I play a multitude of games. I have been known to help others achieve certain trophies if I have the same game as they. Now many of you may look at my list and say, "Stephen, you have games like Hannah Montana, UP, etc" Yes, this is true, but to be fair, I have dated women who have children and they play games aswell. I don't think trophies are completely useless; I do believe they help with replay value AFTER the game is completed. However, one should not throw down $60+ with the intent to gain digital pictures.  Games like Hitman: Absolution have been a joy to try and paltinum as I have completed almost everything within the game. If I were a trophy whore/hunter, don't you think I would have more than 20 platinums and more completed games out of the 420+ games on my list? Sorry for the rant just very frustrated with certain people saying I give gamers a bad name, or saying that I am a trophy whore. Any platinum I have achieved has a special meaning to me, whether it was achieved with my best friend via coop, or the game being one of my favorite series. i.e. Smackdown, or Hitman or brought to us by a favorite developer, i.e. Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption. Thank you for reading and provided is a link to my game and trophy list. Sound off on what you think. Questions? Comment? COmplaints?

My first play through of a game I pay no attention to the trophies.  When I get one, great.  After the game is completed, I'll relpay and concentrate more on achieving the trophies.  The game has to be fun/enjoyable inorder for me to replay.

If I like a game I'll try to get as many of the achievements I can, while also still enjoying the game. If I don't enjoy the game I won't go out my way to get achievements.

@Mortz_88 I agree with you on that where trophies/achievements are concerned. True I have something like 10-12 100% completions but those are all for games that I really enjoy.

trophies = challenges. a perfect way to extend the game's longevity.

Trophies are a great way to extend a game's longevity and nothing beats the sound that pops in when you unlock that elusive Platinum, don't let anyone tell you otherwise :P

Everybody games in different ways, it's nobody's business but their own on why and how they do it! :D I don't understand why anybody would be upset about trophies, isn't the whole purpose of gaming to achieve? :P Screw 'em all, man!!!

Why they hell should they care? I mean it's not like your game play style affects them in anyway right? I Have Platted Demon & Dark Souls not because I'm a trophy hoarder but simply because I KNEW I could do it, yet I refuse to waste time on golding everything in something like GT5 I'd be here til the end of time!!

I agree trophies give you something to aim at once you've done the game, for example Dragon Age requires three play (full) throughs to platinum, not because it's hard but because that's how you get the trophies. A challenge.

Trophy Hunting is an incentive in game.

Who's been saying that? Lemme at 'em!

I think trophies are good overall and I have been enjoying playing through Killzone 2 a second time and seeing some more pop up.

I am very impressed with this list, you sir are a true gamer. I find myself hunting the trophies and trying to unlock through my first play through. You inspire me to keep going and good blog :)

Most of the time people talk without inside knowledge. People are stupid! Enough said.

Just have fun and don't worry about what other people say.

There is nothing wrong with being a trophy hunter. It is all about challange, istn't it.

Btw, I was kind of surprised to see you working, I always has the impression you were in your teens:| It seems there are not all that many younger kids here in GS anymore. Even the teen-agers I used to know via GS are in their 20s now;)

games are games.    My nieces are older now so they play real games, the Finding Nemo and Barbie games were in the PS2 days so that hasn't affected my steam status and I haven't had a girl friend with kids for awhile, at least not who came over to play on my computer.

So what if you want to try to plat every game you have, that's a big achievement that comes with completing the game. I don't think you got bashed in the past for getting 100% on a game on ps2 than what you get now on the ps3. What's the difference? There is still enjoyment and fulfillment in fully completing a game, it's part of the whole gaming experience. That you get throphies for it adds to it and encourages people to play a game to shreds. I think that's a positive thing.

I'm not a big Achievements person. But, getting some of the Steam Achievements (PC gamer here) I've earned for Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2 and The Orange Box still felt pretty awesome.

hehehe, those people said that to you just doesn't know the value of it. Trophies and achievements are one of the things that tell people you love and mastered the game.

Besides, earning Trophies/achievements is part of the game. like Varsity players getting chicks.

Nice trophies. Btw, how's DBZ Budokai Collection?

Those people are jealous  that they can't get a single platinum because they suck at video games?

Think I have 25 platinum trophies there are others who easily have more then that though. I have several I could get the platinums, but mostly just haven't felt like trying to get them at the moment.

achievements/trophies do add a good amount of replay value to games, and i like them for that, though they can also distract from the main game since they linger in the back of your mind while you play :P i have no real problem with them though, if you want to go for them then that's cool

Well, you should just ignore what others say about you. If you enjoy and like getting trophies then go for it, I support you 100% for that :).

I'm a Trophy/Achievement hunter :( it gives more replay value for me and not to mention I hardly buy games like everyday so to me when I have free time and I already beat the game might as well get those trophies/achievements until I get a new game, but this gen of gamers are all whiners and want to b**** about every little thing in gaming like "PS3 is better or 360 is king" or hell even PC gamers piss me off. I enjoy games because they are fun, whatever happen to that? Anyways you do have a lot of games :P but little trophies, does that matter? No. Just ignore them and keep on playing.

I never cared for the Trophy/Achievement system. But i understand why it exists and why people like it. I'm in sort of the same situation with a lot of extra, disposable income, and I get hammered for having a plethora of achievements/trophies as well. You just have to ignore those people is the best advice i suppose.

EvilSelf

The only time i care for achievements is when i am playing my favorite games and gives me an excuse to come back over and over and over again to them.

who cares if people call you that - if you enjoy it, do it!

I personally don't care about Trophies/Achievements... I feel they ruin the immersion and/or have you do stupid things over and over again.

I think it's stupid that people would say hunting for trophies gives gamers a bad name. Trophies/acheivements were added to give gamers that extra challenge, replay value and even continuous value (for mainly open world), irregardless of the game. Although I think it's stupid that for games that have MP, you're forced to play the MP to get platinum trophies. SP and MP should have their own trophies and platinum trophies. I would personally try to platinum every game that had reasonable SP acheivements, and leave the MP 1s aside.

jcopp72

@wolf503 I agree, I dont like MP very much and I hate being forced to play MP for the few remaining trophies to get a platinum.

Darnasian

@wolf503 MP trophies are so annoying especially for older games where the community is sometimes a handful of players. You need boosting parties for those.

wolf503
wolf503

@Darnasian @wolf503 Exactly, hence the reason they need to seperate them, I think it's unfair to people who A) Prefer SP over MP and B) may purchase the game either 1-3 years later maybe longer (considering there are still people buying PS1 and 2 games when they can, PS3/xbox360 games will most likely still be bought while PS4 and 720 is taking over) and have to basically cheat to get the trophies.

Katzenbalger
Katzenbalger

Wow, people really attack you that way? That sucks! I've got a lot of trophies, and plenty of platinums, but that's because i enjoy going for that sort of thing. It gives a game a little more replayability, and for the most part platinums reward total completion. Stuff like Hitman (like you mentioned) or Far Cry 3 award platinums for immersing yourself and finishing everything in the game.
