Another Turkey Day came and went just like that. We had the normal turkey with mash potatoes with gravy, bread and other stuff. After that I had a piece of pumpkin pie with whip cream on it. I had to watch alot of football, Seattle got killed by Dallas.
Last week I ordered more games. This time I went with Newegg.com. Newegg had free shipping along with the game I wanted was $4 less then what Amazon wanted. I decided to order Fallout 3 and Red Alert 3. Most likely I will be playing Red Alert 3 first, I havent played a RTS in a while.
Three weeks ago, I went to Fred Meyers to look for Fallout 3. Fallout 3 was not seen on the shelf on that day. I would suspect all the copies that were there had been already sold. Yep, PC gaming is dead for a game to fly off their shelf with in a week after its release. So instead I saw Dead Space and Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway.Brothers in Arm's have a great storyline. After a week of playing it, it gets quickly boring. The game is a rail shooter and really easy. Its suppose to be a tactical shooter, yet I play the game solo, away from my squad and manage to kill off all the AI. I should have gotten Dead Space.

Started playing Far Cry 2 since last Thursday. It was highly rated by IGN and PC Gamer so I had to play this game. For right now the game is very addicting, Ive learned there is over 50 hours of game play. Not sure if the gameplay includes only the main quest or with the side quests. There is alot to do and see in this game, alot of gun fighting.
Pros: Crisp sound of AI moving and bullet shells hitting the ground, action intensive, long gameplay
Cons: AI is too accurate and too good in a natural feeling.

There seems to be a constant stream of people complaining about DRM. The complaints are here on Gamespot forums and inside PC Gamer magazine. The editors of PC Gamer have decided to mark each game that does have DRM software because of the huge uproar about it. A very small amount of people, who are much more vocal, seem to be taking up all the attention of PC Gamer and its editors.
Here is my opinion about DRM. Who cares??? Everyone who was alive last year would have heard about Bioshock and its very similiar anti piracy software. You would only allowed to reinstall Bioshock five times and that was it. 99% of all people who have bought Bioshock within its first month would have finished the game twice on a single weekend then put it up. Nobody talks about Bioshock any longer. The significance to Bioshock is the practicality of people's complaining. Bioshock as of on this day of the posting of this blog, is the 182nd most play game on Xfire game list. Everyone complaining they cant install it more then five times, it doesnt seem like it matters.
People who are complaining to publishers need to refocused that on piracy. I hear it time and time again that if X game got torrented 200,000 times then means a lose of 200,000 copies. Well, nobody knows how many copies publishers lost, it could be 200,000, could be half, could be one. The fact is people who do have systems capable of running all games that are avaliable are torrent games, just so they dont have to pay for it. Who should we complain about DRM being added to the games we buy? Imagine if everyone who was honest and decided to buy the game instead of stealing it, there would be no need for any anti piracy. There is enough piracy going on within PC gaming, publishers have to do something to prevent people from pirating. If 10% of those 200,000 people who tried to pirated X game had no choice to buy it, thats an increase of 20,000 customers.
Only two things matter to me about gaming and DRM. Publishers continue to invest money into PC gaming allowing me to keep to my hobby. If the game does have DRM and I could play it without no problem, then Im at status quo.

Some people who keep a cat will know from time to time, the cat will decide to walk on the keyboard or the cat thinks the keyboard is a great place for a snooze Well, with me I have a snake on my keyboard, sitting pretty for the camera.
First shot, he is depressing my backspace key with his head a little buried. Second shot his face is more clearly seen.

Just ordered these games yesterday from Amazon.com. Amazon.com is my number one source for games online. My second alternative source is Newegg.com. Amazon offer free shipping anything over $25 no other place does the same thing unless I drive to Best Buy.
Mercenaries 2 is already $40 and Colonization was $25. For these two games I got a pretty good deal. I almost got Crysis Warhead, but I figured Ill get it next time.
Just like some people like to browse around looking for cars for the heck of it. I like to go on to computer websites and look at the price and a computer I would get if I got one right now. Tho I already bought a gaming PC last year I still have 2 or 3 years left with it.
Here is a gaming PC I put together if I got it right now.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550@ 2.83ghz
Asus P5Q3 Deluxe motherboard
Corsair XMS 3 8GB (4x2gb)
Diamond Radeon 4870x2 @750mhz 2gb video memory
Sound Blaster X-fi Titanium PCe x1
Western Digital 640 gb 7200 RPM 32mb cache hard drive
Antec Neopower high effiency 650 watt power supply

Here is my opinion over the bailout for wall street and all the large banks.
1. Bank of America have bought out Merrill Lynch, Chase got Washington Mutual, and now Wachovia is looking to get bought by Wells Fargo or Citibank. The big banks have got even bigger with all the mess. Right before Washington Mutual got bought they had $210 billion in assets. Assests being peoples homes and cars that Washington Mutual have gave money to and people are still paying it off. Fewer banks now own more of America as they did before the crisis happened. Make it more simple, every single person in the US who have gone through a mortgage with Merrill Lynch, every single one of them is now owned by Bank of America.
2. American people who are responible, have a job, a car and pay their loans on time should not bailout banks who made bad decisions. The banks gave loans to be people who were high risk and in some places had interest only loan houses which increased the risk even more. These banks seriously dropped the ball in their low risk abjective and used the American dream of owning a home as an opporunity to make a quick buck. Nobody should be bailing out businesses who make bad decisions no matter what their size. If the $700 billion going to bail out a huge bank and wall street, what about Uncle Bob (little guy) who owns a vacuum store and has $50,000 in debt. The little guy including everyone else who own a small or medium business is getting screwed while the big guys are getting bailed out. Will the US government bail outthe little guy?
3. Bailing out will stiffle captialism. There are plenty of medium and small banks looking to expand their business to fill in the void from the large bank collapse. These medium and small banks could still give out loans to people who want a loan while the big banks dont want to. This is a big opporunity for these banks to increase business. Not to mention people who looking to start up a bank business to also try to capture market themselves. You could take two people with $4 million in cash assest already avaliable and start a business in buying foreclosed houses then move up in opening a bank four years. Other people throughout the country with enough captial could do the same. More banks mean more competition. More competition will mean more competitive rates for consumers and business who are looking for a loan.
Why would the bail out stiffle captialism? The larger banks will no longer have a consequence for their risky business decisions. This will hurt medium, small and start up banks in the future to take the advantage of absent banks in increasing their business. Allowing free market to take its course, the financial crisis will soon go away by itself. The US will end this bad recession a few years later as things have stablized again and more banks are giving out loans to people.
4. The alternative idea to help the economy. The United States need to end the war of Iraq immeditately and cut the defense budget by $90-100 billion and then start up construction budgets of at least $200-250 billion worth total. These construction money will go to improving the interstate highways, modifing the railroad system, and replace older bridges with new ones. $200-250 billion would go out into the real world through paychecks, these paychecks will go into houses, cars, tv, etc. People who are working directly and indirectly will benefit from a constructive way of providing projects, instead of just handing people on wall street and banks a neasy $700 billion.
Banks not offering loans is a scare tactic. If a bank have $20 billion in cash sitting around, there is no way for the bank to make money. The way for banks to make money is to make loans. These banks will once again go back to low risk individuals for loans. People who cant afford to buy a car may have to go to Used car lot or get a lease deal.- Posted Oct 2, 2008 4:53 am GMT

Last friday right after I got off from work, I ran over to Best Buy to pick up Spore. My first impression of Will Wright's latest game was its innovation and its ability to create your own creature. The ability to create the creature you want is endless. It does give you the ability to select what mouth, hands, weapons and more on the creature. There is no right way to play this game. You could play this game only for its creature creator or play the game through creator mode and work your way to get the body parts you want and evolve your creature.
There are five stages in the game, all with its unique play style. Im convinced there is really six games in one in spore. Thats the five stages and creature creator. With in the stages there is also no right or wrong way to play, its all open ended. Im convinced Spore probably have the very best value for any game so far this year.
Here are a few images of a few creatures Ive created.
This one I modified from a creature Maxis created.

Same creature as the first image, but I changed the coloring.

Just like last year, all of the high profile games are all coming out at the last three months of the year. There are three must have games I must have. These must have games are the kind of games I will get before any other game.
Just look at all the games are coming out from now and at the end of the year.
Mercenaries 2 and Spore have already came out. I consider the last week of August to be included in the Christmas rush of games
Warhammer Online
Crysis: Warhead
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
Scared 2
Dead Space
Saints Row 2
Rise of the Argonauts
Command and Conquest: Red Alert 3
Far Cry 2
Fallout 3
Legendary
Call of Duty: World at War
Mirror's Edge
Tomb Raider: Underworld
Left 4 Dead
Grand Theft Auto IV
Prince of Persia
StarCraft 2
Damnation
Tiberium22 games to be release all in three months. Thats alot of games to play and stay busy until next fall. My guess very little games will be released until the month of April just like last year to wait for players to play all the high profile games and get bored. I hope all these games will get high scores, thats including the games I must have. My guess at least two or three of them will get a 7.0 or lower rating from Gamespot and IGN.
The three games I want most out of the laundry list of games Ive listed. Grand Theft auto 4, Rise of the Argonauts, and Farcry 2.

Just ordered two more games for my PC. Loki and Avencast are two action RPGs similar to Diablo II. Played Loki demo some time ago and really liked it. Been playing to buy Loki for a long time now and so I did. Avencast was also my pay list for a while. Since not many games are coming out right now, these would be great to keep me busy until Spore arrives.

Its apparent for some people think this isnt big news for someone who just bought a watch. Well its something I think its worth mentioning on my blog. This watch is listed at $115. It is the most expensive watch Ive bought so far. My current watch is wearing out and I could use a replacement.

Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to drive an Infinite M35x. Its the most expensive car Ive driven and its really nice. Lots of power enough to push me into my seat. Braking is very sensetive and handling is pretty good. i didnt drive it very long. Only for about two miles and that was it not enough time to get use to the car to be able to enjoy it more. The car felt like a tank to me since my car is a smaller car and Im use to that size. There were a few times I got nervous I would run into the curb.

A few months ago I did a comparison with a Dell and Avadirect matching configuration. The purpose was the cost of the two PCs and it was shown Avadirect about $200 less then what Dell wanted for the same system. This time I will do a matching configuration with a high end PC against Alienware. Inheritantly, Alienware have been well overpriced, offering adequate systems for $4000 and higher. I dont know what the outcome to this match is so I will learn with you.
I will only list the primary hardware for each of them and the price afterwords. All prices does not include shipping and taxes.
Alienware
Intel Core 2 Quad 9450 2.66 ghz
Alienware 750 watt
One 1 GB Nvidia Geforce GTX 280
4 GB DDR3 SDRAM @ 1066mhz
500 GB SATA 3Gb/s 7,200RPM 16MB Cache
Creative Sound BlasterŽ X-Fi™ XtremeGamer High Definition 7.1 Audio
3-Year AlienCare Toll-Free 24/7 Phone Support w/ Onsite Service $190 extra costPrice: $3,158
Avadirect
Intel Core 2 Quad 9450 2.66 ghz
Coolermaster 750 watt
One BFG Tech 1 GB Nvidia Geforce GTX 280
Corsair 4 GB DDR 3 SDRAM @ 1066mhz
Hitachi 500 GB 3gb/s 7,200 RPM 16MB cache
Creative Sound Blaster X-FI XtremeGamer
3 years parts and labor warrenty included no extra costPrice: 2,246.66
Conclusion. As shown Avadirect with a matching system to Alienware is $900 less. I was expecting the Alienware system costing around $3500, but it seems that Dell notice it have competition and is trying to keep down the price of their computers. Those out there is looking for a gaming computer to play Supreme Commander and upcoming game Far Cry 2, which one will they pick.
One problem I have about Alienware is they list Microsoft Vista Home Premium and Ultimate as the options. They dont list or say anywhere on the website if the operating system you are getting is 64 bit. Those who do get 4 gigs of memory will need to get a 64 bit OS or the computer they get will only use 3 gigs. So if you are paying $75 for the extra gig, it would be good if you are able to use it.
Just to note about Avadirect. My current system Im using was built by Avadirect. Its virtually like newegg where they have all brand name parts, but they could build a computer for you. My PC is over a year now and its working just fine.

Since my last blog post, I bought Mass Effect and Grid from Newegg.com. Grid was the first true racing game I bought since GT Legends some two years ago. Like all racing games they are fairly self explanatory, as you get cars and you race them around. Grid have a career mode and a nice free mode. In the career mode, you race for money and reputation. The money you win lets you buy new cars and hire a teammate, while the reputation lets you gain sponsors and advance to more difficult races and let you win more money. The free mode lets you races all cars and tracks without waiting for them in the career mode. Candy eye in the game is very good and highly detailed. The graphic detail settings on my computer lets me see reflections off of the paint of the cars.
Also purchased Mass Effect along with Grid. Currently still in the middle of the storyline in Mass Effect. To no surprise from a Bioware game, this game is detailed and well planned out storyline. Every character within the game have their own story. Voice acting have been done with every character you are able to talk to. Bioware was able to get at least a dozen professional voice actors such as Keith David, Cree Summer, and Cam Clarke in the game. Only negative side to Mass Effect is the length of gameplay of the main quest. I played 15 hours of Mass Effect so far and im half way through it. Games compared to other Bioware games and The Witcher, I should be a quarter into the main storyline. Finally, Ive been watching dozens of episodes of the Angry Video Game Nerd on Gametrailers.com. One particular episode where he reviews the Virtual Boy and I noticed one other layer he seems to leave out in his other episodes, but I think it was important enough for the Virtual Boys failure. Ill sound off my opinion here on my blog. "The nerd" mentioned the reasons it didnt catch on as Nintendo hope it would. All the games were in monochrome red, marketing said it was portable which it was like carrying a brick, there werent any games that impressed anyone over the game boy or super nintendo, and the machine gave people headaches. One important aspect to the Virtual Boys failure is the majority of the demographic during the early 90s were kids from 15 and under who had no jobs. Speaking for myself when I was only 14 when the Virtual Boy came out. I had very very limited amount of income and that came from my parents. My parents werent willing to hand me $200 each time I walk into a store. Considering I already had a SNES in my house, there werent any practial sense for me to get a Virtual Boy. I did one time try out the Virtual Boy at the store for about 20 minutes and it wasnt impressive enough to ask Santa, aka my parents, to give me one for christmas. Value of $20 for me when I was 14 was way way higher then now since I have a job. Other kids may have experience the same reason as I did and since this is another reason why it failed.

A few weeks ago, I bought a new LCD HDTV. My tv is a Toshiba Regza 37 inch at 1080i resolution. The model tv I have is a brand new model Toshiba put out early this year. With that I have the lastest technology Toshiba have to offer in HDTVs There is a DVI connector in the back if I decide to hook up my computer to it. At the moment, there is no plans to use my new TV as computer monitor. I primarily bought a new TV because here in the US all signal on Feb 17,2009 will be broadcast in HD resolution. Because I have a HDTV that could except the standard HD signal, Im already ready for it.
Below is a screenshot of my new tv. The movie on the screen is called Water Horse, the creature on the right is amazingly done.

Some people might have noticed I havent posted a blog in over three weeks. Ive been pretty busy playing Age of Conan. Trying to gain levels and get enough money to buy a horse in the game. Currently my character is a level 61 and I did succeed in gaining enough money within the game to get a horse.- Posted Jun 23, 2008 5:36 am GMT

Age of Conan finally arrived at my house on Saturday. With no surprise, I immeditately installed it on my computer. I was a little taken back on how much hard drive space it requires. The whopping 32 gigs is the largest by far of any game on the market. Its been two years since Ive played a MMO it took a little time to get use the controls and the UI. My character, right now, is on the server called Zug with the character name Perro. I am a level 19 conqueror.
Immediate impressions of Age of Conan is the great idea of controlling the characters swing. It really matters on where you swing you sword to get the most damage possible to the NPC. Unlike EQ2, where you character is on auto fight, you have to push with 1,2 or 3 keys on the swing, and each respresents different direction of the swing.
Death penalty at times really define the game. There are people who dont want to play hours at a time gaining experience and end up losing it with one simple mistake. With Age of Conan there is no experience or weapon lose. When you die a grave marker will temperairly be located where you died. Some of the character stats are slightly lowered, until the player either goes back to the marker or wait 30 minutes to get back to full strength.
I cant give a reliable opinion of Age of Conan just yet. Because MMOs have a very extensive gameplay then all the other games, I need to play a few weeks more and to off the newbie area to be able to fully see the game. Then Ill be able to give an opinion and a reasonable rating and possibly review.

"Sandy Duncan- The former Microsoft CP who unleashed the Xbox on the Europeans, told the website That VideoGame Blog that "Consoles will (die) out in the next five to 10 years. Costs associated with creating new hardware are incredibly high"
Alex St John, CEO of Wildtangent, "They cant afford to burn another eight billion bucks." (quotes from PC Gamer July 08 issue)
My last blog I suggested that consoles, not PC gaming, will come to an end. Sony and Microsoft have sank billions in development costs in their lastest consoles. Billions more have been spent just to make the consoles knowing they would lose money. Microsoft is finally making money off of their Xbox 360 at the time Halo 3 came out, due to the lower hardware costs. Yet, its not enough to pull them out of the hole they sank in. Last year, a single PS3 cost $800 to manfacture. Considering if sony made 3 million units, that would cost $2.4 billion and knowing that sony would sell their consoles to retailers for half the MSRP, which would be around $250. Sony would have only made $750 million, which is still a lose.
My prediction is the console as we know it will fade away. A home gaming and media center pc for entire family would come out. Someone with a LCD HDTV will have a DVI connector on the back, making the PC the more logical sense in placing it in the living room. Just like the console, all the hardware is standard. Everyone and anyone could go down and pick on up and all the hardware will be the same, and all games they pick up at the store would work. Those people who higher end gaming machines, would have the ability to adjust the game settings for higher resolutions and better graphics then the standare computer does. Just like the console every four years, a new home gaming and media center pc would come out with better hardware allowing people to have a better experience with better candy eye.

There have been many many times have I defended PC gaming all over Gamespot when ever I can. The PC is the most power and best platform to game with by far then any console. This may be true on paper, the PC is being left behind time and time again by every single publisher. LucasArts recently decided to totally neglect the PC on their name game for really unknown reasons. Some other publishers including Microsoft have been more focused on the x360 then on its bread and butter, Windows.
For a few months now I have actually considered getting a x360. Mostly to play games on the x360 I could never play on the PC. Like Halo 3, Lost Odyssey, and up coming Ninja Gaiden 2. When will I be getting a console if I decide? I really dont know if this would ever happen. Right now I am in a moment of saddness and a feeling of being left out in the cold because so many publishers, including microsoft, is seemingly neglecting the PC. This coming July I may be getting a LCD HDTV and that month or the month of August would be the time for me to get the x360.
I am no way saying PC gaming is dead. That have been said for a least ten years now and yet the PC still remain. Alienware, Intel, nvidia, HP, and other companies that make PC gaming hardware are making a killing. The PC gaming system is the leader for all consoles to push forward. While in fact, I believe the console is truely dying. Sony have lost billions on their playstation 3, Microsoft lost a boat load of money on their x360 for the first two years. Microsoft right now is finally making profit on the hardware due to drop of cost. While the consoles are becoming more and more like the PC, pretty soon we will see a merge between the two.

Some of you here might have noticed I have been a bit inactive lately over here on gamespot. Two weeks ago I had to go to California for few days due to family matters. Then I went on vacation to Florida for a week. My traveling days finally ended on Friday afternoon where I finally made it home.
Its been 20 years since I last been to Florida. Only thing I remember well was one day it was downpouring rain, never seen anything like it not even all the rain Oregon gets all the time. The flight going and back from Florida was over six hours long. Once arrived in Florida it was pretty hot and humid, not really use to Florida weather yet. I had to travel for another hour toward Florida's eastern coast where I have an uncle there. There I stayed at his house for five days before heading back to Orlando for two days before heading home.
While I was at my uncles house, I got to see the town where he lives and his girlfriend. Both of them were at my sister's wedding a couple of years back. There I spent time at the beach and visited the town of St. Augustine. St Augustine is the oldest town in the United States, so it was a good opporunity to go see it. Also went to a reptile and bird zoo near by. This zoo had lots and lots of alligators, birds and a some monkeys. Wanted to go to Florida to see alligators and so I did.
While at Orlando, I spent a day at Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom. Walt Disney World have four other parks besides to the magic kingdom. Animal Kingdom felt exactly like a zoo with a disney twist. There are alot of animals I got to see I never seen before and there was some great rides.
The next day I visited Universal Florida for the entire day. I was lucky enough to get on their brand new ride, The Simpsons. The mummy rollercoaster was great too. All in all, I had a great time with the whole thing.
So my vacation ends there, with my return home on Friday afternoon.
A couple of days before I headed off to Florida, I bought Rainbow Six Vegas 2. The game feels exactly like the first one. Graphics, gameplay and the AI intelligence is all the same. Few of differences between rainbow six vegas and the sequal, is you get a few more guns, you could customize your character, and there is a leveling system. The leveling system is just like treadmill system you would expect in a MMO. You earn experience and you level. When you level you get more gun options, cameo designs, and more clothing and armor options. Is it worth the $50 price tag? Definitely, this game is worth it considering it have coop and multiplayer game play on it. Terrorist hunt mode is great even more hours to increase its valuability. Had a bit of trouble at the very beginning of RBV2. The game's textures was showing up very poorly. It was either completely missing or flashing and a short distance. It made playing the game nearly impossible. I did manage to turn off the anti aliasing which completely fix it. I dont know if this bug is just on me and my hardware or because of the anti aliasing and the game itself. Since my computer is pretty beefy, the game automaticly set it to the highest AA setting it could go, I would have seen the problem rather then someone who have a mid range system.

Its been a week since Ive started playing Assassin's Creed and all I could say is this game is very good. This is the first game in a long time I didnt want to be torn away from. As soon as, I get home from work, Im on my computer playing it. Probably the best thing to this game is the easy fluid motion of climbing buildings as the character automaticly reaches out to a ledge, window frame, or anything kind of hang with little effort. Fighting is also can be somewhat intense and there are gory death scenes that reminds you that this game is a mature rated game.
The negative to Assassins Creed is the repetitive side quests. When you have finally reach chapter 3 or 4, saving a citizen side quest will be another saving a citizen quest. Going up a tower will also feel like you going up just another tower and jumping off the 20th time.
I have rated Assassins Creed a 9.5 and will likely to stay. It would probably be a 9.2 if gamespot allows .1 rating system again. With the amazing gameplay, lots of side quests, and with the main storyline, it makes up for the repetitiveness to the game. The first four hours of the game I was blown away. Is this game worth $50? I think it is worth it. Anyone could rush Assassins Creed by skipping the side quests and only focus on the main quest by finishing the game in five hours, if they could or take their time with all the side quests it could take 30 hours or more.
some screens of Assassin Creed.

There are a few new folks who have started tracking after I bought my relatively new computer last june. I bought my new computer from a company called Avadirect. When I was selecting my parts for my new computer, I did a comparison with Dell. Dell wanted $1,000 more with a system with similar specs or if I wanted a computer with matching price from Dell, I would have gotten a computer half of what I got now. All the parts on Avadirect is brand name and each one could be found on newegg.com. Its like you building yourself a computer but they do it for you and they send it. Something I wish newegg could do and then just change you one big shipping bill. Avadirect have pretty good prices compared to alot of major brands. For the comparison Ill just list the primary parts along with warrenty and support.
Another thing to mention is Avadirect have DDR 3 memory and with intels latest 9000 series cpus and amd phenom cpus. While Dell, have none of these options avaliable for any of their pcs.
