Music is a powerful trigger for memory.
my girlfriend leaves for 3 months to Russia tomorrow and
as I am loading her iPod up with all the songs we have listened to over the past 2 years
so many events are resurfacing. No feeling can ever be the same as falling asleep in a california-king in Dormitory C at Flagg ranch in Moran, WY
while listening to Yanqui, UXO,
nor any of the other myriad visions recollected. curious..- Posted May 13, 2007 10:59 am GMT

30Mar 07I once decided that for every time a woman snubbed me I would redouble my efforts to win some favor, turning her indifference into my resolve. It seems like sort of the same thing is warranted for updating my blog, because my last entry was at least a month ago.
In an effort to transmute apathy to action, here are a couple of things that I've been up to recently:
Extended Ascii Char support in streaming media:
Aside from listening to No More King's awesome pump-up track "Sweep the Leg" about 5 or 6 times a day, I have also been really digging a Mexican guitar rock outfit called ° niņa, but while enjoying their tune I noticed that the flash audio player wasn't properly handling all the high ascii characters in their name and bio. I believe it should all be fxed up now so I'm stoked to announce that any accented or otherwise browser-renderable characters should also work fine in the flash player, and more importantly go listen to nina's awesome "punkrobot".
Play All buttons:
It was getting really annoying to have to click the "play" button once for every song, and it was really turning me off to finding new music so we decided to implement a link to play all of a user artist's tracks with one click. On the Summary tab of an artist there should be a link to play all the featured tracks there, and in the songs tab there should be a link to play all the songs or play them all by album. Also on the homepage the featured music should also have a Play All link. Clicking one link can now queue up any number of tracks in the player. I'm super pumped because with this change we also released a new version of the flash player whose performance is significantly increased compared to the prior version. I think the next logical step will be to surface your saved playlists somewhere on your profile page so that you can more easily share your music with your friends.
here's to beginnings and new beginnings, cheers,

1Feb 07An outsourced promotional stunt for Aqua Teen Hunger Force (numerous Lite-Brite versions of moon men flipping the bird posted all over Boston and other cities) was misinterpreted as a terrorist threat and resulted in nearly a million dollars in police costs.
In the press conference following their arraignment the defendents justifiably chose to continue the joke and rather than answer the questions from the newspapers (whose sensationalistic journalism is probably the real culprit) they only discussed their hair and hair styles of various decades, declining to answer any non-hair questions.
I've got no real input aside from saying that I'm with the promoters. I think the real investigation should be who authorized the excessive police action, what information was provided to them, and why there are there not any measures in place to gradually ramp up from cheap investigation to full-blown security onslaught...
For their part, sensationlist journalists certainly encouraged this (and they are certainly carrying a chip on their shoulder if they expect the same people who were hurt by their actions to pander to them now) but some hothead in the FBI and on each and every local police force mobilized his troops for action, disregarding his son's voice in the background saying "hey! that's the cartoon from the TV"

26Jan 07When Jibbs crafted his hip-pop masterpiece Chain Hang Low he claims to have not known the minstrel show origins of the sampled chorus but that hasn't stopped reactionary rapper NY Oil from calling him and a variety of other groups a disrespect to the hip hop community as well as a general disgrace to humanity in a mocking remix of the tune on his myspace page.

10Jan 07With the increasing incidence of heavy metals and human-created bacteria like giardia in our drinking water, I guess it's no surprise how quickly people got used to buying water, number 2 on the 4 chief requirements for life. I bought a PuR water filter the other day, for my faucet.
That's a good compromise, because i refuse to buy water but i also don't want to die from my obstinance- Posted Jan 10, 2007 6:36 pm GMT

I was reading through some old spiral notebooks I saved from 4th grade and next to the drawing of a Zombie Pirate Warlord there was a diagram of a girl from my class with little arrows pointing to different parts of her body, noting her inferior qualities. One of the notes explained that she pronounced "bath" with a long a, like a britsh person might pronounce it, and I think one way to tell I've grown up a little is that I recognize now that a British woman speaking with you about her bath is not unattractive.

4Jan 07Thanks for the Christmas card that you clearly only sent in response to the card you didn't expect from me. But it's the thought that counts, isn't it? or is it the cookies that count... I think it's the cookies.

19Dec 06Nas has always been characterized by his incredible arrogance and relative ability to back it up. When he burst into the game about 10 years ago he promised to deliver hip-hop and it has been impossible to listen without hearing that oath's echo, or judge how well it resonates.
On many of his albums he talks a big game and brings even more than he promised. On a few (and I am going by what the critics say, here), his actual payload falls just a bit short of the perceived specifications. On his most recent album 'Hip Hop is Dead' he simultaneously declares himself as Hip Hops eugogolizer and the shaman who will resurrect it.
Goddamn it, he might be right.- Posted Dec 19, 2006 7:52 pm GMT
