Suprise?
"Suprise...? Come on it's totally new.... WHAT? Who told you?"
Well the people that told us are the big game media's Gamespot & IGN (main ones i read) everytime i went on them in the news feed there were constant stories that they had dug up, thus ruining the suprise of their being a PS3 slim - we all expected it, just not this soon - But the price cut did take me by suprise (ok well not totally by suprise but a little bit).
So I think it's a little unfair that Gamespot etc are saying that PS3 Slim was a badly kept secret - yes there was a leaked image from the production but tbh most people (as always happens) dismissed it as a hoax - remember the wii (or 'revolution' to all you hoax followers out there), there were hundreds of different designs and claims as to what is was going to be, but none of them were right - or believed for that matter, so why was the Slim believed?
The main reason was because once the first image popped up Sony denied it and denied it hard! But then game news media's didnt let it drop and kept digging and posting new images stories and guesses which kinda hurt the unveiling of the new Slim.
But did the ruined suprise actually hurt the Slim? Think about how much coverage it recieved - all the rumour controll; all the leaked images; all the speculation. This all kept me tuned in to see when Sony was going to let us out of our misery and tell us if it was real or just ignore it and they finally did...
They got a tonne of coverage just from rumours of the console update so when it broke it was still actually big news - secret or not.
Any way, I'm happy the slims here, whether you think its ugly or not (i personally dont think its better or worse!) its a price drop and an improved machine - it now costs the same as an xbox and frankly is better - blu ray, wifi, free online gaming... or xbox £50 wifi add on, HDDVD (epic fail add on), and £10 p/m online gaming.
Thumbs up for Sony right now, and thanks for reading :3 -

next gen wars.
Xbox vs. Plastation has always been a sensitive topic, albeit it's mostly amongst fanboys but it's now beginning to bleed into my close circle of friends.
I have an Xbox, I'm a big fan of the Xbox but thats not going to make me bias. My two best friends have playstation 3's one converted from Xbox, mainly for the blu-ray but now he's hooked.
There is no denying they are both excellent consoles, but then again there isn't much else to go on, there is either camp microsoft or camp sony in the next gen wars. nintendo decided to go a separate way to the competition, which served them very well, and has seen the wii rise to great heights amongst the gaming world, although this relies upon casual gamers, rather than the dedicated hardcore gamers that sony and microsoft are trying so desperatly to cater for.
Back to my previous point, there are only two camps for the next gen wars. either xbox or playstation, which is fine as it would be almost impossible for a new company to break into this market, it would be an david and goliath situation except there would be two goliaths both with laser eyes. for proof of this cast your mind (if not just put google to work) back to the Gismondo. This was a very impresive handheld console, it came out just before the DS and psp hit the market, it had better specs than both and was an amazing machine boasting online gaming in the palm of your hand. Unfortunatly this console went vastly unrecognised, due to the company being small and having limited funds making the console a bit pricey (around £200 i recall) and with these limited funds came an inability to advertise. Also the company was small so no game designers wanted to produce games for it because they all thought it would sink, which was how it sunk. It was pricey it had no games and no one heard of it.
So we are left with two consoles, which have a huge amount of earned loyalty from fans. But is this loyalty a good thing? we are so blinded by our loyalty that none of us are willing to merit the other. This loyalty closes the market making it a two way monopoly preventing any one bothering to make a second console. I would love to see sega have another try, the dreamcast for me was one of the best consoles of its era, it had online gaming and was one of the first to do so, its exclusive games were the best, but it came out at the wrong time, and was crushed by sony.
so which ever camp you choose, just remember they are both good but not worth arguing about, because the alternatives that never ever got the chance could have been much better.
bring on dreamcast: next gen!
