    Hurricane Ike

Well Hurricane Ike at least had one benefit for us: It got me and G gaming again. We never lost power or water so our food was fine. The only thing we lost was cable TV. After a day or two of nothing to watch I decided to get the newest Viva Pianta game for G. She had just finished Kameo so for a suprise I picked up Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise. She's on it now and the Pinata's are multiplying left and right.

I'ts incredible the amount of damage Ike did to the Houston metropolitan area. Power is still out a week later to many homes especially on the east and north side of town. I've never seen so many downed and up rooted trees after a storm since I've lived here. I've been here for 30 years and this is the worst I've seen.

But you won't hear me complain.

Galveston and other coastal communities are a whole other level of destruction. It's one thing to loose power and to have to deal with no street lights and empty grocery store shelves. It's a whole other level to have 3 feet of water in your home, everything in it destroyed or even worse - no home at all. A co-worker of mine had a very nice beach home on Crystal Beach. It was completely washed away. Granted, it was a vacation home and not his primary residence, but it's still pretty heartbreaking. There are people who lost there only home as Ike's storm surge just smashed them into bits of lumber and dumped them in the street, in the bay or out to sea. Incredible.

All of my extended family are fine. Some lost power and got it back but others are still without it.

It's going to be a very tough go for a lot of people here in Houston/Galveston. But one thing you don't hear is a lot of complaining. Houstonions have a very can do attitude and from what I've seen people are just rolling up their sleeves and getting to work and cleaning up.

Folks in Galveston know the pluses and minuses of living near the beach. Most will take the loss and just move on others, if they can will rebuild because their love of beach living and sea is so strong nothing can keep them from it.

Call it passion over reason if you will.

On a lighter insignificant note I'm still playing GRAW2. Just taking it slow knowing it's not a very long game so I'll just take my time and make it last.

    Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2

Well I recently felt the need for gaming so I went out and picked up GRAW2 for 20 bucks. Seemed like a pretty good bargin to me. I really like these Clancy tactical shooters. Stuff blows up really good, you have to plan some and not go in guns blazing, you have to surpress the temptation to kill the bad guys all by yourself. You have to use your team to help keep you from getting shot up too much.

So far it's pretty basic and very fun. I like the UAV and the MULE for recon use, very effctive. I also like taking the viewpoint of your team to see if they have a good angle to get a shot off. Pretty cool and a nice touch.

    So far so good.

    What the?

Man! You go away for a few months and look what happens! All kinds of wide full screen Gamespot action. Interesting. It's been so long since I've seen Gamespot that I may have to re-learn how to use it.

Where is everything? Mmm... OK I think I can manage this. (I'm not as dumb as I look). This could be cool. Most of the time I like the changes that Gamespot implements. Over time I get used to them so I'll see how this goes.

How is everyone out there? Still gaming with no let up in site?

I haven't played a game in months as my new hobby, photograhy, has taken most of my spare time. I finally reached a cold spell of creativity so I put the camera down for a few days stepped away from it

I may have to go out and get a 'new' used game to get me fired up again. I'm not paying $60.00 for new game that's for sure, not with diesel prices well over $4.00 a gallon. Filling up my truck is a pain in wallet big time.

I never did get GRAW2 so that might be one to get. You know, now that I think about it I never finished Halo 3 (got bored with it) or Gears of War (side tracked by something, don't remember what). That would make more sense I suppose. I could use the money not spent on a game to fill up my truck too! Or maybe just top it off.
