Away for the next 8 days

Shall be leaving the corporate jungle for erm, the real jungle for the next 8 days or so. It's time for my army recall again, my second which meant there are only about 9 more to go. I think this time we may be doing cool things like learning how to use a new rifle or something, but that is a 'cool' I can always do without. Well, see you when I see you.

Edit: It seems that it's 6 days rather than 8. We are given the weekend off due to some changes in our training schedule, which explains why I am here. Hooray!

Jeanne D'Arc reviewed

Not the worst of games, but I think I have lost a bit of faith in both Level 5 and the genre with Jeanne D'Arc.

At the risk of being caught...

I bring to you this blog post from my office, 15 minutes from knock-off.

I am currently doing my internship at a government statutory board, where I reported for work 1 day after my 40+ hour plane journey from North America. Strange thing is, I couldn't have felt more fresh. I guess I have shocked my boss with my barrage of questions regarding the auditing field, something I intend to work for the first few years of my career.

For those who are aware of the business field, there are what is known as the big 4 accounting firms. I am taking this opportunity to learn more about them from the colleagues around here, since most of them have been through the harsh training these companies are known for. Despite the prestige of these firms, it's relatively easier for most of us than our international peers to get into them due to extreme shortage of manpower. Reason? Average working hours: 14. Guess I will say goodbye to Gamespot and games in about a year's time.

Besides doing work, sort out my prospects, I have been playing Lost Odyssey and Hotel Dusk: Room 215. Both are great games and I hope to write some impressions when given the time.

I guess it's knock-off now. Have a great time, everyone!

Gamespot makes you friends

Here're some update:

After Edmonton, I spent some time in Montreal, NYC, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Orlando, and now, I am in Miami. On the 16th, I shall pack my stuffs for the last time to Edmonton once more, where I will catch my plane back to Singapore. The next day I reached home, my internship shall commence, and during this 10 weeks stint, I will need to report to military (again) for 8 days. Pretty hectic, isn't it? While dragging my luggages from 1 city to another (I swear I got stronger with all the carrying around), it's pretty much impossible for me to be active here. I will try to reply to blogs once I get settled again.

While in Orlando, I did the brave decision of visiting Disneyworld for just 1 day. That, and not visiting Universal Studios at all pretty much made me the laughing stock to all the locals I spoke to. But I am a boring person (see past blogs) and amusement parks aren't my type of things at all. Miami Beach, as I found out in the past 2 days, are though.

I realised that I didn't miss much of Orlando also because nothing will top being able to meet an online friend in person. As it turned out, Dave was exactly what he's like here on Gamespot- a wonderful dad, husband, and a great man overall. He has the perfect complement in the beautiful and bubbly Shannon. The way the family function is just amazing, and I was glad to be with them for the short encounter.

The man in the baseball cap is whom I hope to be when I double my age!

In the midst of trying to achieve all the lofty goals I set for myself, this short encounter with the Woodward family showed what is afterall most important- family.

Leaving

It's amazing how time flies, no matter how cliched such a phrase has becomes. 5 months ago, I was looking forward to this exchange with a mix of excitement and anxiety. Now, I am on the last day of it, things half-packed, ready to leave tomorrow.

I guess it's one of those decisions that I will never regret. I remembered telling my parents about this only when everything was finalised (so that they cannot say no) and then felt pretty guilty after that. I had to take up a huge loan just to get there, which in a year's time, I will have to work my *** off to pay it asap.

Gamespot is the most unlikely cultural refuge, one of those little habits I do back home. It's nice to update you guys with the little tales I experienced every now and then, it felt like speaking to someone really close.

As much as I hate the weather in Edmonton, I've grown to like this place, the people, and even it's terrible food. My name cards are half-depleted with the so many friends made from all over the world. I discovered something new about myself, and overall, I've become a much more happier person (always nice to have a break from the tough school life back home).

I've just came back from a trip to Vancouver (first time backpacking on my own), and tomorrow I shall leave for Montreal, Quebec City, New York, Washington(possibly), Orlando, and I hope to meet Dave and his family in Deltona. Let me know if anyone of you reside in these cities, we can meet up.

Tomorrow before catching the flight, I have promised the international centre to do a presentation about Singapore to the Canadian kids. I treat it as my farewell gift to the city. Farewell Edmonton, and a big thank you to all of you here. For just being there.
