So, I've decided that I'm going to participate in Retro Revival Week. With my recent acquisition of a Sega Genesis, I realized that I definitely have enough older games to participate. So that's what I'll do.
Now, there isn't a real specific plan per se. I have a list of games I intend to play, but I'm not certain when I'll play them or even if I will end up playing them. But who knows? Maybe I'll even play some games that I didn't plan to. ![]()
So here's the list. If I'm playing a game by way of another game (emulation, port, whatever), I've specified that.
Adventure (Atari 2600) via Atari: 80 CIassic Games in One (PC)
Desert Demolition Starring Road Runner and Wile. E Coyote (Genesis)
Half-Life (PC)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) via The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition (GameCube)
Mega Man 2 (NES) via Mega Man Anniversary Collection (GameCube)
Phantasy Star II (Genesis) via Sega Genesis Collection (PS2)
Ristar (Genesis) via Sega Genesis Collection (PS2)
Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis) via Sega Genesis Collection (PS2)
Super Mario Bros. 3 via Super Mario All-Stars (SNES)
Super Mario Land (Game Boy)
Yar's Revenge (Atari 2600) via Atari: 80 CIassic Games in One (PC)
I'll try to upload some screenshots and video footage along with my updates, but I can't make any guarantees.
Ah, yes. The Sega Genesis Collection. I've had good fun with that game. Sonic the Hedgehog, Ristar, Phantasy Star, Shinobi, and more. Great games, those.

Unfortunately, I've never actually owned a Genesis/Mega Drive. It's one of many things I missed out on.
But wait! What's this?
Where the heck did that thing come from?
Since my camera skills suck, you probably can't tell what games they are. I'll remedy that right now.
Pac-Attack
Wakka wakka wakka...
Desert Demolition Starring Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote
Just step aside or you might end up in a heap.
Vectorman
This is the future.
The system and games have been tested and it all works. ![]()
A number of things have happened since my last update. For example, Cocoto Fishing Master came to WiiWare. It has some control issues, but if for some reason I have convinced you to buy Cocoto Fishing Master, that would be the way to get it.
I beat Ico. I loved it. It was a fantastic game, but some people seem to find it boring. That's fine. It's not for everyone.
And then, I went out and bought some games. Only one of them actually involved going out though.
Audiosurf (PC)
Bullet Candy (PC)
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (GBA)
Audiosurf and Bullet Candy were from Steam, SRTOG was from an actual store.
Audiosurf is really cool. I've played it a lot since I bought it. Steam says 12.7 hours, while Xfire says 14 hours. Which one is right? I'm not sure. All I know is it's really cool.
I'll start on Super Robot Taisen once I finish up Fire Emblem. I recently got back into that.
Level 37
Current Rank: Heiankyo Alien
Heiankyo Alien is a 1979 arcade game, released only in Japan. In 1990, a Game Boy remake was released in Japan and North America.
The gameplay revolves around digging holes, and then when an alien falls into a hole, burying it. When you lack the firepower to defeat aliens, always remember your shovel.
- Ordered and unordered lists work fine in forum posts.
- I like that.
But when you try to use them in a blog post
- It doesn't work.
- That kind of sucks.
I've hit a temporary snag in Baten Kaitos, so I've decided to play some more Cocoto Fishing Master.
This time, I switched to the third bait. Unlike the other types of bait, this one rests atop the water. I catch the attention of a fish. It jumps out of the water. I press up on the control stick and my bait jumps out of the water. Yes, this is a very different kind of bait. I catch the fish, an 11.34 lb exocet. Now that I know how to catch the different types of fish, how do I find the 1000-year old fish?
I give my exocet to the hermit turtle. Apparently, he'll give me a special bait if I give him one of every fish available in the level. I might as well, since that's the only way to catch the 1000 year old fish.
I find Baggy and sell some of my fish. This should allow me to get some seahorse bait and continue my quest.
This new kind of fish sure is hard to catch. There's a constant risk of the line breaking. Maybe a different rod would work better. Either that or stock up on bait. Whoa! That thing's an octopus? It really doesn't look like one.
It's some time later now. I bought the long rod. It's great if the fish I'm trying to catch is more than 50 feet away. It can cast up to 100 feet. It doesn't make reeling in fish any easier though. Now let's try to get those last two fish.
Got a pantadon. That should do it. It was hard to find because I had trouble identifying it on the radar. If you're colour blind, I wouldn't recommend this game. Now I'll follow the little red arrow on the radar back to the hermit turtle.
Hocus pocus! I got a new bait. I select it and a gigantic fish rises to the top of the water. A boss? The boss fish circles my boat. I cast in front of my boat and hope for the best. Follow successfully, but fail to strike. The second try is a huge success. Speaking of huge, the fish is larger than Cocoto's boat.
The fish gives me a piece of the statuette from Geo's bait. What is Geo's bait? I have no idea. The intro didn't mention anything of this nature.
I press Select and I'm whisked away to the Volcano level. Interestingly, it appears that the level is actually located inside a volcano. Certainly not the most relaxing fishing location. If I want to leave, I can press Select and go back to the previous level.
So how do the fish in this level differ? Well, the same fish are available but they all sport a new look and more importantly, they also behave differently. The difficulty seems to have increased from the first level. There's also a new rod available, which may be able to make things a bit easier.
And that's it for now. I'm probably not going to make another blog on this subject, but if something unusual happens, I'll make sure to mention it. If you have questions about this game, feel free to ask me.
