Nintendo Loyalist
In the midst of the video game industry, competition prevails. In more recent times, the battle has been furious
and painstaking for each company to be the best 7th generation console in the gaming world. The top leaders have remained the same; Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.
At 2006's E3, each player brought something new and different to the table. Sony revealed its Playstation 3, yet came off a bit disappointing with limited gameplay to show off. Also, it's high price point ($600) seemed to throw off it's main interest-takers. Microsoft's presentation came off rather striking, by showing off its hardcore series of games to be unleashed for early 2007; its most appealing, Gears of War. Lastly, Nintendo appeared with a new take on the gaming world. First debuted as the Nintendo Revolution, the newly titled Wii is set for launch November 19th, 2006 at a cheap price point of $250. Instead of a standard controller, the Wii's controller is split into two and allows players to interact with the screen via motion sensing.
The past few years have been slightly disappointing for Nintendo, since it's lack of high sales for the Gamecube were lacking. Yet, they have survived the rigorous battle and remained in the top from their innovative handheld consoles; i.e. Gameboy SP, Nintendo DS, and newly added, the Nintendo DS Lite. There obviously is no comparison, as the Wii is like no other. For the first time, Nintendo will ship enough supplies to cover its buyers during the 2006 holiday season.
Many have speculated about the term "Wii", as it comes off mildly child-like and light hearted. Nintendo's lead representative, Reggie Fils-Aimes, states "Wii sounds like 'we', which emphasizes that the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii."
Graphically, superior screens and images shouldn't surpass gameplay, they should add to the experience. Innovation is key and the Nintendo Wii IS a revolution. Any true gamer should agree - gameplay rules.
