    Exclusivity

I've mentioned this before in the past, but it is irritating me so much of late I felt it warrented it's own blog post.

With the news of Tekken 6 coming to the 360 I'm sure there are a lot of people who purchased a PS3 out there to play the next installment of Tekken feeling a bit annoyed if it was one of their main motivations to opt for the console. Theres a growing pattern of games going multi-format and I'm increasingly sure that exclusives will eventually be a thing of the past, I'm sure with EA at the publishing helm for example that Mass Effect 2 shall eventually come to the PS3 etc.. .

Now what annoys me about this announcements is the fact that they are accompanied by the whining cries from legions of fans moaning about the developer "betraying" their fanbase and all such other crap. Newsflash:- Gaming companies owe you nothing as a consumer. They are there to make business and it makes business sense to release things on multiple formats. In fact I sometimes puzzle over why ANY games are exclusive unless the developers being paid crates of cash under the table to keep it that way. With the news of DMC IV, FF XIII, and now Tekken 6 there was a regular flow of comments like "zomg Capcom/Square/Namco have betrayed like their tru fans" like announcements, and all I can say to those people is deal with it as quite frankly it's going to continue to happen on all consoles. Not everyone owns one console, not everyone who owned a PS2 has got a PS3, not everyone who owned an Xbox owns a 360 etc.. etc... there is no "loyal fanbase" as with each gen people try new routes.

The only reason, ONLY reason anyone could have for getting annoyed is if a title is 100% confirmed, no "we can't comment on that" bull, 100% out of the developers mouth confirmed as an exclusive and then is later declared not to be and that person purchased the console JUST for that game. It annoyed me a while back when Star Ocean IV was announced for the 360 (and yes it may well come to the PS3 eventually) and people were like "I GOT MY PS3 JUST FOR THAT GAME!", if you did, your an idiot as it wasn't confirmed for any format.

Thinking more about this, I think people should be happy when a popular series goes multi-format as it means more people get introduced to it and play a great game allowing for more community interaction. The only reason people do get upset about it is if they are still trying to justify in their heads why they spent a large sum of money on their console, or possibly if they are having an illicit sexual relationship with it.

Anyway, sorry for the quick rant today, the comments from people feeling betrayed by Namco warrented it though!

    Gaming Update - 4th October 2008 - Reviews + Birthday Stuff

Hi everyone, first things first I've got TWO reviews for you today so click the links below and please rate positively!

    Shadow Hearts

    Viva Pinata: Trouble In Paradise

So, as I blogged Wednesday was my birthday and I got both Force Unleashed and Final Fantasy IV. First my impressions on Lucasarts latest..

Now I won't mince my words here. Force Unleashed in terms of what it could have been is an unmitigated disaster and could have been so much more. Yes it's fun to smack Wookies around yes it's fun to smack doors off their hinges, however when the camera has the combined IQ of a goldfish who needed to take courses in swimming things start to get less enjoyable. Whoever thought that it was a good idea to include platformy bits in the game too? Seriously who? Whoever did needs their head tested. That said it isn't all bad it IS fun when you overlook the faults and I'll play it to the end. Expect a review soon.

    Now FFIV..

Well I'm hooked on FFIV, its fun its addictive and I've put about 13 hours in so far. I've just defeated Scara-whatever and made Cecil a Paladin and levelled him up to 30 again *growls*. Anyway the game is happily the first DS game Ive really loved and I am in love with the title. May pick up Dragon Quest IV tomorrow but I haven't decided for sure yet.

Anway, thats all I have to say today. Hopefully will be doing these posts once a week again now, with an article mid-week. Im planningon being less-busy!

    Happy Birthday To Me

Yep its the obligatory "its my birthday" post. Seems to have been a lot amongst my freinds on Gamespot lately.

ANYWAY I'm 24 today and unfortunately I'm at work as I type this.

Gaming wise I got Force Unleashed from my Mum and Final Fantasy IV from my wonderful girlfreind

I also got the money to pay off my Fable II and Fallout III preorders, yay!

Before I embark on my new games I intend to wrap up Shadow Hearts (Ive done everything now except Seraphic Radience and the final battle) which I must say was pretty damn amazing and certainly worth the rather excessive price we paid for it second hand.

Expect some proper updates this weekend, been a lack of any this week as things have been manic at work due to end of month invoicing etc.. so ive been pretty exhausted.
