Goodbye my friend...
When I got at work last week there was an e-mail from the manager explaining that one of my colleagues had suddenly passed away the thursday before. At first the medical service at the scene thought about suicide. There had been medications in her house.
I did not know her very well yet. We met early this year. She just got divorced and was starting her new life with surprising enthusiasm. We used to hang out in "the smoker's room" at work. She and I were among the few people there who smoke, so we got to know each other better in a short time. The news of her passing surprised many of my co-workers. Some of them have rearranged her office to make it some sort of "shrine" (Don't want to make it sound offensive, but I lack a better word.) where everyone can write down his or her condolences to the family. Of course I did so too.
Today I heard that her ex-husband, who happens to be a doctor.provided her with the medications that were found at her house on that fatal morning. It gets worse though. Apparently my friend (as I like to think of her) was the second wife of that doctor. His first wife had died six years ago, after taking (...) an overdose of medications. I was shocked. These are things you see in movies, not in real life. And specifically not close by. The police is investigating the case... Let's hope they find out all there is to know about her death.
My support goes out to all of her relatives, friends and everyone else who has known her.
Goodbye my friend. I'll miss you and think about you every time I light one up alone...

Love is... getting a new ps3 from my girlfriend after the Yellow Light of Death.
So yesterday my world seemed to collapse. My Ps3 showed this little yellow light that usually is green, then switched off, releasing it's last breath... I was in shock. Thousands of hours of gameplay flushed down the drain. All those hard-earned trophies... gone. Or so I Thought.
Sony informed me, that since it is no longer in it's first year after purchase I'd have to pay 200 euro's for repairs. I'd still lose my savegames and everything else stored on my hard drive and I would get someone else's revised 60GB console. This bugged me a lot. I was defiately not in a good mood.
I half expected my girlfriend to not understand what I was so mad and disappointed about, but I didn't do her right with that assumption... This morning when I was at work (yeah, sometimes I work too...) I received a text message saying that I had a present waiting for me on the dining table when I was coming home from work. Never in a million years would I have thought to receive a brand new ps3 including the game "Infamous". My girlfriend even went though the trouble of visiting store after store for a new copy of Fallout 3, the game I was playing when my system crashed. (Even though it isn't at all sure wether I can rescue the first copy I had from the deathly grasp of my old best friend...)
Tonight we had the best of fun starting a new game of Fallout. My girlfriend even stayed along for the ride when I started shooting peoples heads of just to get rid of that unresolved anger still burning inside me since the night before.
The indifference my girlfriend always showed concerning my hobby is slowly changing tp understanding and even adding to her fanaticism. I love my girlfriend a lot, and I mean A LOT. But, since today, I know that even that feeling still shows the flexibility to grow even more.
oh, and for those people wondering: I recovered all of my trophies, even though I don't have any of he saves left.

What to do when ill... play games left unplayed...
Last week the doctor told me that one of the muscles in my back had a slight rip in it. The best thing to do is to move that muscle a lot, take a lot of medicines and rest. I decided to make an effort to finish some games I had lying around that I never finished.
The first game on my list was Need for speed Undercover for my Playstation 3. This is the first game I have played on ANY console that made me want to throw something out the window. This game is actually a lot of fun, but the programming is SO bad, that even during races with slower cars, the road turns grey/black and the screen freezes for a random number of seconds to LOAD... Come on, that's just lazy programming! I got my platina trophy though.
The second game I started playing again last week is Fallout 3. I decided it was time to see how the story ends. The Playstation 3 version of the game was lying around in my house, but somehow I never got to playing it. (Just bought too many other games I guess.) I finished the game with a level 16 good character. Why good? Because I am going to have even more fun playing evil and I would be getting tired of NOT killing people. Anyways, the game gave me a good feeling. The story is really compelling and the loss of an NPC character (minor spoiler?) actually feels like a loss and makes me think about if, and how I could have prevented that dramatic event to occur.
For a minor break in my Fallout 3 platinum hunt I chose to play Bioshock, which really gives me the creeps. I hope it brings as much replay value as Fallout does, because I like spending time in Rapture.
Anyways, as long as I'm not back at work I'll keep posting about my quest for the fourth platinum. My current platinum trophies are: Uncharted, Burnout Paradise and Need for Speed Undercover. I am close to getting the platinum trophy for Battlefield: Bad Company, but the 7800 kills left for that one Bronze trophy kind of make me want to give up on that one since BF:BC 2 is due this november and then nobody will play the first part anymore. (Probably including me...)
Rapture is calling... I'll be back!
