My fist ever Blog - A word on the Wii

First of all let me give a wee shout out to Nintendo. You guys rock. I have been a Nintendo fan for years and always will be, but don't let that be my ticket to biased-ville. I am getting a Wii on the 8th of December, and its the first time i have ever preordered (or even thought about getting "next-gen") anything. Next gen does seem to be a bit of a con to me, new consoles yes, new games...not really. Most of them i have seen so far are either sequels or rip-offs. Anyway thats not my point. They are not really offering anything new, just better graphics, and i have a beast of a PC so no console game's graphics will ever impress me.

I was not interested one bit in the Xbox 360, seems to me like a glorified Xbox, and the games that will come out for it (that i am interested in) will come out on the PC. Yeah they say that some games will be "exclusive to 360", but they said that about Halo...Yes i know they have net access, and downloadables. Again i'm not listing anything a PC can't do. And if your reading this you'll have one.

As for the PS3, its £500!! Thats just proof that people have more money than sense, also there is one game worth getting on it, ONE! (Resitence, fall of man) Of which does not offer anything better in terms of controls. I have HATED FPS games on consoles as i find them a nightmare to control. They will never amount to the precision of a mouse and keyboard. All Sony have seemed to have done with their motion sensitive (Wii rip-off) controls is tacked them on at an attempt to make their new console different from the last (minus the graphics). Not worth £500, not even worth £300...I probably will get a PS3, but only when it comes down to a price i can afford, this thing is 2 months rent to me. (and by that time they'll probably have the "slimline PS3" to make up for the losses on the first one.) They just seem to be a relentless money making machine that dont give 2 flying figs about their customers. Just take a look at the PS3 launch, people got shot for it due to Sony's stupidity for not supplying more product. If they were sensible they would have had thousands of the damn things so everyone would get one, then their would be no need for animosity.

As for the Wii, everyone seems to be complaining about the graphics, "no HD, cry cry cry..." and i say, who gives a crap? Not everyone even HAS a HD tv. I agree with Nintendo when they say the HD generation has not hit us yet. So when your buying a new system with Hd capabilities, your spending loads more cash on a HD tv. These people cant help but compare it to other systems and are missing the fact the Wii CAN pack a graphical punch (minus the hundreds of pounds for a HD telly). However I couln't care less if the Wii was in 2d. (I'm looking forward to the Metal Slug Anthology actually, hear people crying about that?) They have done something wonderful, even something the PC cant do. They have brought gaming to the masses, they have brought players to the games in a way never achieved before (not to mention they get button mashing couch potatoes off their butts and doing something). Sure the games seem a little childish, but who wasn't a child once? I see people reading harry potter at the age of 40. We all have that kid inside us that is wanting to bust out, and Wii helps us satify that little guy. And better yet we can satisfy it for less than £200. Thats a friggin bargian. Not to mention a huge corporation like sony are LOSING $200-$250 on EACH system they sell, and good 'ol nintendo are making $30 - $40 on theirs. Now come on! Nintendo's intention in the first place was not even to make money, but to bring gaming to every household, widen their neiche and make money on the way, get mums and dads and grandads playing the Wii. You think your mum gives a crap about the graphics? They are even bringing gamers together on an international level, just look at the name, Wii, its a name that everyone, regardless of language, can say (similar to what the cleaning product Jif did with their name, which is now Cif). And i can tell it's gonna work. The only game my folks were interested in were Tetris on the Gamboy and Guitar Hero on the PS2 (mainly because of the interactivity).

My mum for one can't wait for this system, and neither can I. This thing is gonna bring families together in a way no-one else could ever achieve. I'd rather have a laugh with my family than sit unsociably eek my way through a single player. I mean dont you find movies or TV shows more funny when your watching them with someone? They should have thrown in another Wiimote and Nunchuck in the box for an extra £40 or so, and it would still be a bargain. Like i said before i have never preordered a system before, but i cannot wait for the Wii, it brings a new meaning to the word fun, which is kinna the whole point to playing games in the first place.

So you PS3 and 360 fanboys can sit and be distracted with your "pretty graphics" for a couple of months, while we're off having fun with our friends and families on our Wiis for years to come.
