my first 'gaming system' was electric football when I was like 5 or 6 years old - I still have it and the box because mostly my dad bought it  for my Christmas present one year so he could play it with my uncle.

   but I have had quite a few systems  Home Pong  Atari  N64 NES SNES Dreamcast PS1 PS3 Mac PC  I still play PS2 once or twice a week.

I don't agree that you are either Hardcore or casual.    although I have been addicted to a couple of MMOs in the past and spent so much time in the games that I suppose that qualifies as what they call hardcore - playing hour after hour until you fall asleep drooling on the keyboard.

I have done that many times.  both in the online gaming and regular video games.

    but I also have periods of time when I won't play a game for several days in a row and just don't feel like gaming other than a little solitarire or Mahjong so maybe I alternate between  the categories or I am one of the majority who is in the middle
