Drowning Pool are back, and this album proves it

Stone Sour's latest, and perhaps greatest album so far

OK, not as good as their previous albums, but nonetheless it's a good change of pace

***k yeah. One of the best disturbed albums yet

Um, okay, maybe a disappointment, but there are songs I still enjoy in it

A bit different from Korn's previous works. But still kickass

Not only is this probably the best album with a 'Godsmack' on it, but it's also one of the best albums this year

I have mixed feelings, on one hand, it's a disappointment, and on the other, I can't stop listening to it

The only rapper I listen to, and for a reason...

As I Lay Dying are not my favorite band, but I kinda like this album

    Deftones everything else

Linkin Park officially sucks now, because this album isn't them, but whatever it is, it's good

    An album to remember

Haven't listened to enough to give my opinion, but whatever I did listen to, was superb

    'nuff said

Can't say the same for gaming however, compared to 2009, and apparently 2011, this year was pretty meh, besides God of War 3, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Gran Turismo 5, and Red Dead Redemption.

You know, I usually appreciate any score a good game gets, since alot of things make the choice different, that could be opinion, expectations and the criteria the reviewer uses to score a game.

But in all seriousness, I may sound like a fanboy, or biased, or you may think I have slept with Kratos, but whenever I see another review of the new upcoming game, I couldn't help but think maybe GS got a half-arsed pre-release build. Before watching this, I thought that GS gave a good score and all. But I'm sorry, even though I don't like Machnima's very lightweight reviewing system, they certainly hit the nails on the coffin with those points they proved. The extra footage they showed during the video was already enough to convince me, that God of War 3 redefines graphics, gameplay, scale, next-gen, and to top all, epicness.

Since only nothing can really be perfect, I may as well go on to give this game a 10/10, and maybe give 'nothing' a run for it's money, again.

BTW, I found this very funny joke very funny...

OK, now this blog has absolutely nothing to do with its title. Or at least, not as much, or maybe the title just won't describe it well enough.

Man, time flies so fast; I could swear just a few days ago everyone was celebrating 2010! We're now onto the 3rd month of the new year, and while I still have my most anticipated games coming up, I must say 2010 may not live up to the way 2009 blew us all away.

First impression is the last impression, and if that first impression isn't a good one, chances are towards the end you may be disappointed as well. The first 2 months saw the coming of hotly anticipated titles, or maybe they were too hyped up.

Darksiders was a good game, it was enjoyable, nice concept and all, but it wasn't so satisfying. It made me expect more from the next game to feature "dark", Dark Void, and boy was that a disaster, at least on the PC, fly around in jetpack, **** yeah! Oh wait? It's over already? That's it? When are we going to fly again?

Then we have two games beginning with an "M", Mass Effect 2, and MAG; both are splendid games and anyone with a taste for action should buy them, especially the former. Great fun and all but wait, there's more… The 3rd S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game appears! Yahoo! That's awesome! OK, not as awesome, but it is a good series, and it is worth playing through.

Despite those three above, this year so far felt flushed out. The coming games proved that, with Dante's Inferno being the biggest rip-off of a game I've seen (second to Ghost Rider), and that too such a bleak one. For Christ sakes, leave the epic action adventure bloody mature games to the experts will ya? Following that, one of my most hyped up games comes through, AvP, and a disaster it is. It had the potential to be one of the best games this year, and like many other cheap movie-game spin-offs, it took a slip into a sewer, although however, I did enjoy the Alien and Predator campaigns.

On the contrary, Bioshock 2 delivered very well, something you would expect from a sequel to an amazing game. I already vote Big Sister the Best new character of 2010!

And yet another string of awesome games… Heavy Rain and Napoleon come through, I didn't get to play much of Heavy Rain however (sad), but I am liking the new Total War, but c'mon… Napoleon? You'd be better off with Hitler That being said, Heavy Rain was pretty nice. I was expecting a higher score from GS, but I guess it's a like it or hate it thing. Having played through Indigo Prophecy a lot, I don't think the gameplay is alien to me of Heavy Rain.

Supreme Commander 2, Bad Company 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 for PC, oh joy, amazing (hopefully) sequels. Wow, that's a lot of twos there, add to that Command and Conquer 4 and Metro 2033, that's a nice list there, something to keep me busy until my two most awaited upcoming titles…

See? I told you the title had nothing to do with anything in this blog! But I am yet to be amazed by God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5, i.e. if it does come out this year.

What comes to your mind when you read that? By all means I know that mind is not preverted (or as much) than most peeps out there, but still, that sentence has a pretty dirty meaning don't you think?

That's the "Run [game name]" thing that you see at the end of a PC game setup of World of Goo, yep. Not that it's a bad thing for such a kid-friendly game, as I'm sure every kid wouldn't get the other meaning it sort of had (the one I was mentioning), so it's cool I guess.

The game is brilliant however. It has a slow start, which I believe most puzzle games should embrace. And the learning curve, well, there's nothing much to learn other than the game environment, the characterisitcs of the Goo Balls - the critters you control and join to make structures to get to the pipe - and well, how to win each level.

The annoying part of this game is that despite such simple mechanics, the game itself is very hard, make one mistake, and run out of timebugs (bugs that reverse a move made by the player), you have to restart. But once you find the method of getting past a level, it's not tedious to do it again.

The graphics and sound are nothing to boast about, but the artistic side of the game is wonderful, believe me, if there's one reason why you need to play this game, it's because of the unique style and the game's atmosphere.

However, the main star of the game [IMHO] is the very awkward sense of humor, which I still don't quite get. and is still to weird for me to explain here as well.

The game doesn't require much from your system. Any computer could run it, believe me. If you have the time, and don't mind casual games for a change, you should get it.

    9/10

    *SOME SPOILERS INCLUDED*

The aliens are relocated to D10. 3 years later, Christopher Johnson returns, this time with an army, just for defensive pruposes, and the humans assume it's an invasion strategy, so they go on the offensive. War breaks out.

    *SPOILERS END*

Whaddya think? I personally would love a sequel. In fact, we need one, but maybe they will release it in 2012 i.e. 3 years after the first movie?

And a game wouldn't be bad as well. Maybe it'd be better off based on the plot I suggested above. Two factions, the aliens and the humans, and we could have a variety of weapons from semi-futuristic (not far off from realistic and today's time) and the epic alien weaponry they had. Maybe include vehicles too.

BTW I just noticed I got a new emblem

"Games are more important than paying for food or paying the bills"

Nice eh? I did cross the 200 games limit some time ago, certainly in 2010 however, pretty nice way to show off my decade of gaming

EDIT: Curse you GS and your filthy site bugs!

After finally having watched the commercial success Avatar, I must say, if it's more than overhyped, it's overrated. The fact that it really is a graphical achievement, even in this new age of nex-gen graphics, and it's history (being under development for 12 years or something like that), were the smallest of reasons. Rather, it's the director of the movie that brought it under success, James Cameron. aka the director of Titanic as well.

Of course, I can't say the same for Titanic because well, it was a good movie. But Avatar? Ok sure, it is good, I like the plot and the art, but to think it was so good that it grossed $1.8 billion? I guess it was because it was fine for kids to watch too. Not much blood, no sex scenes or whatever the similar. At the bottom of my heart, I'd at most give it a 6/10.

Now the question comes, what will be the next record-breaker? Forget movie quality, in this time of ignorance and stupidity, nobody looks at that. We can only go down to the name of the franchise or marketing. So which one? I doubt the sequels will sell as much, because most if not all those who watched Avatar would probably think the sequel would be worse, as is the trend of movies nowadays. Pirates of the Caribbean had a good sail, but the series is over now. There can be no Titanic 2. The only stuff that comes to mind, is the last Harry Potter movies, and a sequel to The Dark Knight, and maybe the Twilight saga. Partly because the first and last mentioned are totally overrated, and The Dark Knight, is a masterpiece. I'm positive any movie whore loved it, the chorography, the acting, the way the story and plot plays out. I really do hope a sequel if in the works holds up that name. Too bad the Joker's part is over though.

But there's Jurassic Park IV too right? Wait, dinosaurs are so meh eh?

BTW I watched District 9 yesterday. What a movie. Fantastic. It gets a 9/10 from me.

...were my thoughts when I played Bayonetta. On one side, it has style, but on the other side, it somewhat lacks originality, blend in Dante with a slutty librarian as someone here rightdfully described, and you have Bayonetta. The game looks cool, but it feels very similar to DMC, yet I certainly didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed DMC. Also, the humor (especially the sort of perverted presentation) is not my taste, something similar to Rosario + Vampire, which is the worst mangas/anime I've read/watched my life.

I happened to complete the entire Moh Allied Assault games today, they were fun and all, but Breakthrough was hard as ****, and trying to do the harder segments again got frustrating. But washing out rooms of Nazis and Axis soldiers was always satisfying.

I'm still playing Plants vs. Zombies, despite having completed everything and buying everything as well. I just can't get enough. I initially plan to halt playing games until May/June, when my O level games will be held. But I'm planning to either start Call of Duty or Hitman, so, which one?

OH lawdy, I couldn't get the image right.

I'm sure I said it once and I'll say it again. Plants vs. Zombies is AWESOME! It has a very easy learning curve, and it's not so hard to play either. It has tons of replayability, and I'm sure I've played a good 20+ hours on it and I'm not even done buying and completing everything. It's not even demanding on the systems, yet it has brilliant graphics artistically and the humor is pretty darn good when you look at games nowadays (or even of the 16 bit era).

On a side note, another Awesome thing, is Moh Spearhead; in terms of plain fun, it surpasses the original by miles, unfortunately, it finished so quickly, that it completely felt like a 'cheap thrill' at the end 0.o, oh well, I'm gonna start Breakthrough soon. Hope it is more than the scores it got.

Can't really give my comments on this though, they're both awesome games, but I think Uncharted 2 has the edge ahead of Killzone 2 by the better story, characters and well, gameplay.

    Ricochet93's

    First Ever Annual

Game of the effing Year Awards 2009

    Part 1

    Part 2

    Best Action/Adventure Game

Ok, so it wasn't really hard to choose the winner here, rather it was the runner-up.

    Uncharted 2

    Runner-up: Batman: Arkham Asylum

The category clearly states Action *slash* Adventure, and I think both of these games fit both perfectly

    Best Driving Game

    Dirt 2

    Runner-up: Forza Motorsport 3

Surprised? Well tbh I am too. As much as I love FM3's features and customizablitiy, I must say that Dirt 2 gave me an overall wonderful racing experience this year. Gorgeous graphics, much much better damage than Forza's, and so many variations in racing, I believe Dirt 2 is the best racing package currently out there.

    Best Platformer

Hmm... tough one here. I love platformers, they prefectly fit into the casual gaming slot where you just play games for stress relief and to cool down yourself after a long day. Now which one had the best effect in that sense?

Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time

It is possible you can blame my biasness to RnC for this

Runner-up: New Super Mario Bros. Wii

    Best RPG

    Piece o' old cake.

    Dragon Age: Origins

    Runner-up: Demon's Souls

Although I gotta admit, from an RPG POV, Demon's Souls offered the best boss fights to date.

    Best Shooter

Those who followed my Awards from the beginning knew this would be coming.

    Killzone 2

    Runner-up: Borderlands

    Best Sports Game

    FIFA Soccer 10

Because I don't play any other games

Runner-up: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 for the awesome controls

    Best Strategy Game

    Plants vs. Zombies

I swear I was gonna give this to Empire: Total War but when I started playing this game I was hooked for like hours. This game is just plain awesomeness. It's one of those few strategy games for the casual gamers, and is very relaxing to watch and play. Seriously, buy this game, you won't be disappointed.

    Runner-up: Empire: Total War

    Ricochet93's

    First Ever Annual

Game of the effing Year Awards 2009

    Part 1 Here

    Most Surprisingly Good Game

You know those games which when you see them you say it'll be 'meh', but when you actually play it you find it was above your expectations (which were already minimal anyway)

    X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Runner-up: 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand

    Best PS3 Game

2009 was indeed the year of the PS3, even though the best game so far, Metal Gear Solid 4, came out a year before. So many good games to choose from, this was a tough category for me, in the end, I came out with only 3, and among those, the following made through.

    Uncharted 2

Can anyone guess the 3rd game I had in mind?

    Runner-up: Killzone 2

    Best Xbox 360 Game

I'm not sure if my opinion here would be liable because I admit I'm quite biased with the Playstation brand and am not much of an Xboxer. Nevertheless, I guess many would disagree here, but here's a game with which I enjoyed my time on an Xbox 360 the most

    Forza Motorsport 3

Yes, Forza 3 gave me an experience like no other, especially since I am already a sim racing fan. The tons of customization options, the online, and the awesome engine sound which are better than any other game I've heard, this is perhaps one of the few reasons why I want to own a 360.

    Runner-up: Borderlands

    Best PS2 Game

The PS2 lived through an unforgettable gaming era. Some of the best games out there exist on the PS2. But now the PS2's life is coming to an end. Less and less games are coming out, and those which are come out half-baked.

Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier

    Runner-up: Motorstorm: Arctic Edge

Honestly though, I still think these winners are half-baked as well. But at least they're the best among the half-baked games.

    Best Wii Game

My opinion here is based on my cousin's console. And since he is only 8, his parents are careful about which games he (and me as well) play on it.

    New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Runner-up: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10

    Best PC Game

No contest here, not only does this winner surpass other PC games, it also surpasses it's console counterparts.

    Dragon Age: Origins

I'll be straight here, this game was made for the Personal Computer, it just perfectly suits it, the controls, the mechanics, hell even it's background looks better when you see it as a PC game. BioWare did a great job, on the PC, honestly.

    Runner-up: Left 4 Dead 2

Game I Spent Most Time Playing This Year

Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour

Ever since I laid my hands on this game, I was hooked, no game has gotten as much play time out of me as this one has.

Runner-up: Gran Turismo 4 – this game never finishes argh.

Tomorrow (possible delays) Part 3 will be up, followed by Game of the Year the following day.

Well, Santa Monica did it with their masterpiece God of War. Don't you think it would be awesome if Team ICO did the same with Shadow of the Colossus? Yes, I am talking about a remake of it on the PS3. The original version of the PS2 was already an awesome experience, however due to techincal limtations, the game suffered from sometimes ugly textures and framerate issues. With the power of the PS3, they could make the game even smoother with even better looking textures that could make the experience a whole lot better. And I wouldn't mind playing all over again.

    What do you guys think?

Oh and my Awards have been postponed. But don't worry, by tomorrow Part 2 will be up.

    Ricochet93's

    First Ever Annual

Game of the effing Year Awards 2009

    Best Graphics, Technical

Well, I'm pretty sure many would have guessed it by now. There were so many great games in 2009 that looked so good from a technical standpoint that it was quite hard for me to choose. Nevertheless, I have, and the winner is:

    Killzone 2

It was a tough choice between this and Uncharted 2, but in the end, I found Killzone 2's graphics (especially the epic lighting) prettier than Uncharted's.

    Runner-up: Uncharted 2

    Best Graphics, Artistic

This wasn't a pretty tough category since I found only a few selected games to choose from.

    Borderlands

Runner-up: Nothing foo! Or, maybe Flower.

    Best Story

    Batman: Arkham Asylum

    'Nuff said.

    Runner-up: Dragon Age: Origins

    Best Atmosphere

    Killzone 2

Nothing can quite beat the amount of dark, stormy atmosphere Killzone 2 has implemented that is so engaging and brings the place to 'life'

    Runner-up: Batman: Arkham Asylum

    Best Multiplayer, Competitive

    Killzone 2

Killzone 2 multiplayer is win. Why did I pick this over Call of Duty 6? Well, simple. First off, the latter is just a refurbished and polished version of the first Modern Warfare, there's nothing much new to the multiplayer aspect. Killzone 2 has a very awesome and well balanced multiplayer from which I believe many other game devs (especially Infinity Ward) should take some notes from.

Runner-up: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

    Best Multiplayer, Cooperative

    Borderlands

With humans with a good-sized brain, playing Borderlands is fun; I enjoyed it more than Left 4 Dead 2 and Resident Evil 5, maybe because L4D2 was similar to the first one. And well, I was actually disappointed with RE5 overall.

    Runner-up: Left 4 Dead 2

    Most Improved Sequel

I certainly wouldn't have to open this would I? I mean, by now, most if not all would've guessed it, and dare I say anybody who didn't pick this is an idiot.

    Killzone 2

Man, Killzone 2 is snagging so many awards with me that I am starting to worry whether I am sounding biased.

    Runner-up: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

    Most Original IP

Guess what? I aren't giving this award to anyone because imho, nothing in this category actually deserves it. No matter how unique the games, I always have the feeling that it took something from another game, even when I can't remember the name of it.

    Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason

Let's just give it to this game, I think it deserves it.

Runner-up: Tied – Prototype/inFamous since they both are so similar but have awesome plots as a whole

    Most Disappointing Game

While 2009 may be a year of many great games, it certainly was the year of release of many potentially great games. These games were either too rushed to make it into my awards, or there was too much hype surrounding them. Disappoinment = Expectation/Reality

    Resident Evil 5

I'd have to say either the game was too hyped or it just didn't live up to RE4. I was expecting more from this game, so I guess I'd go with the first reason

Runner-up: Tied - Need for Speed Shift/F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

    Best Game No One Played

You know those games which are just so amazing but when you ask the next guy he goes "whut?" …

    Demon's Souls

…yep, sad to say, but I believe that this is the most underrated game released, nobody ever heard of it, and much to everyone's surprise, this game was the total underdog of GS's awards, so much that it won the GoTY. Yet, no one I know owned it until I bought it for my friend so we both could try it out on his you-know-which-console.

    Runner-up: Cryostasis

    Worst Game I Played

    Jurassic: The Hunted

Have you heard of this game? No, good, don't bother. It's not as bad a game as one would think, it's just, I didn't play too many bad games that were released this year. Maybe I have good tastes!

Runner-up: Haven't played too many bad games recently, let's just leave it like that.

Part 2 will be up tomorrow...

I completed Red Faction for PC. It was quite fun, and I loved the Rail Driver, but tbh, when I finished it, I was like, that's it? It seems I wanted more, even though the game could get frustrating at times. But I still feel glad that it's over, now I can start playing Halo for PC and see what the hype's all about.

    Note to self: Reviews pending:

    • Half-Life 2
    • Red Faction

And my GoTY? I'm thinking of putting it up tomorrow

So I completed Half-Life 2 sooner than I thought. Awesome experience, and I wish it could've lasted longer. No game with such good graphics could quite run as well as this game did on my rig. I am liking the Source engine. I am still worried if Episode One and Two have better graphics or not as they were released later, and whether they will be able to run on my computer. I am going to make a review soon, and am also planning to start Unreal Tournament 2004.

BTW, I also found an old disc deep in my closet, and it still works. Old is Gold, memories of the late 90s flashed back when I booted the disc and saw Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun, Firestorm, Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge as the contents. I guess the only thing I am missing from my CnC collection would be Red Alert and the first few ones in which it was impossible to differentiate units from each other. Otherwise, it could be considered the most complete series in my collection.

Ok, so this is gonna be my first blog on this site, or oops, my first blog on this account. That's right, I've been on this site for ages, on different usernames. But everytime I keep forgetting the password and/or just leave that email id. Anyway, I have hopes that this will be my last and final account and hope not to forget it again after a possible absence.

So to start, I am quite surprised with how the Awards in the Special Achievement section of GS's 2009 awards were snagged by many PS3 games. Not that I'm not liking it, I support the PlayStation name in the console wars, but I was quite surprised to see them winning at all. I also don't like how the voters just voted for their favorite game without actually considering what the award was about, even in the Dubious Honors. Anyways I'm positive in the direction it's going, Uncharted 2 will win the GoTY award as well.

Ok, so nobody would be reading this, haven't made too many friends, I know that, so... I'll just continue on anyway.

I did my first review on this account, check it out, it's of Turok Evolution (PC), in fact, it's the only review so far of that particular game. Not surprising, considering most who would have played it would have bought it a year ago on consoles and well, it's not a very outstanding game, so it slowly crept into the shadows without anybody noticing. The thing I like of this review, that it's actually one of the first reviews I made which could actually be considered a review, with detail and [imo] a mature view.

I mostly play PC and PS2 games, as they're the only platforms I have; my brothers have a Nintendo DS as well, but I only play Brain Age 2 from time to time on it. I play the more recent PC games and PS3 games at my friends' house. I don't own a 7th gen console nor a high-end PC (middle end is what you could call mine), but I get enough play time to be able to review a game. The only thing I envy about Xboxers are their controllers, the 360 ones; I absolutely love the triggers and the comfort. Otherwise, most of it's exclusives don't appeal to me, and those which do (Gears of War, Mass Effect) are actually also on the PC. Plus, I fear the RRoD.

So for my first blog, I guess this is enough, I am currently playing Half Life 2 and am on the verge of completing it by the end of this week. Outstanding game I say, review will be coming up soon.
