Xbox, go home.....just go home
Yesterday, Microsoft finally revealed some information about their new "console" coming this Fall in time for the holiday season. The fan reaction was.....not so good. From the reveal of the name to the interviews after the show, it seems as though nobody is eating up the BS business practices that Microsoft is pumping out for this upcoming generation. Well, why should they? All I kept seeing from both the show and the aftermath was not only disappointing, but infuriating.

If you haven't already figured it out by looking at my username, I consider myself a bit of an Xbox fanboy myself. I liked the original Xbox when it came out. I thought the gaming library was inferior to the PS2's, but the console's performance was top notch and it still had a variety of great games (not just Halo, either). I also loved the 360 and consider it one of my favorite gaming consoles, not to mention it has what is, imo, the perfect controller and the best online experience you'll find anywhere, even if it does cost a fee to play. However, I saw this BS coming from a mile away. Ever since the Kinect, Microsoft seemed to stop caring about their core audience and instead cared more about social media and ads. I went into the reveal of the new Xbox console both hopeful and worried, but little did I know this reveal would be so much worse than I thought. Almost to the point where I gotta ask myself: is this even a gaming console anymore?
First, let's talk about the name; the Xbox One........really? I thought 720 was kind of a lame name among several other names I've heard but Xbox ONE? Because it does everything in one machine? This is already sounding bad and I haven't even talked about why this thing is hated so much.
First of all, instead of investing all the money put into this box on GAMES (ya know, what most of us bought the other two consoles for in the first place?), they spend the majority of their time talking about television. Now you can watch sports or cable tv shows, which you still need a cable service for, on your Xbox. Yeah, and who wanted this when playing their 360? Nobody? Also, the touch pad controller for the WiiU is stupid but a tv remote is the future? Wait, what's that? I can use skype and surf the internet which I can already do on my PC?.........Wasn't there supposed to be gaming involved somewhere? Because all I see as them advertising a new cable box, I must have tuned in to the wrong show.
Oh, but they did talk about games.......all 2 of them. Forza 5 was announced, as expected, and a new Call of Duty that I will be able to play on every other system? Yeah, those are the only two games they talked about and most of that time went to Call of Duty. Oh, and they also announced 15 exclusives within the next year, but how much do you want to bet that the majority of them are either Kinect exclusive, games with exclusive content or timed exclusives? So yeah, it appears gaming is only secondary now, cool. Maybe I should wait until E3 before judging the library, but I really don't expect any different.
Oh but the BS doesn't stop there. First off, the system comes with the Kinect camera, but it has to be attached at ALL times even when you're not using it, so I hope you have some space above your tv to make room. Why couldn't this thing just be optional like it is now? I didn't want it back in 2010 when you announced it and I don't want it now. It doesn't stop there either, although I don't think you're ready for the amount of horse **** this interview contains. You ready? Here it goes:

http://kotaku.com/you-will-be-able-to-trade-xbox-one-games-online-micros-509140825
Yep, the always online rumor wasn't completely untrue. You don't have to be connected to play, but you do have to log on every day, though it isn't said what happens if you don't. Either way, it's stupid and all you're doing is losing customers that don't have a good internet connection or no internet at all. The second link is even more maddening; used game fees. Every game has to be installed on a hard drive, and then anybody can play it. Ok, but then the problem comes when you purchase a used game or bring it over to a friend's house, you have to pay for the game in full if your friend wants to play or borrow it for a while........wow.....just wow. They somehow found a worse solution than blocking used games entirely.

This whole revealing was just a disaster. The WiiU was more impressive than this (at least it's a GAME console that treats GAMES as its primary source). As if betraying your gaming market who were even willing to put up with your online fees wasn't enough, but they have the balls to charge us for used games and force online and even more fees on us. Good job Micro$oft, I hope it was worth it. You not only let me down, but you let your entire fanbase down. I don't know which console I'm getting next gen yet, but at least I know which one I'm NOT getting.
Also, if you missed the show, here's the perfect sumary for you

Always Online? Say it ain't so Microsoft!
By now, everyone on the internet has at least heard of Microsoft employee Adam Orth's ridiculous "deal with it" comments when reponding to the new rumors of the new Xbox's "always online" feature. For those who haven't, fans wrote about their outrage over a new feature for the new Xbox that requires you to be online at all times in order to play, even when you aren't playing online. Fans were upset over losing internet service on a weekly basis in smaller towns (being in a small town myself, I know what they mean) to which he replied "why would you live there?". Microsoft responded by apologizing for Mr. Orth's rude behavior (I believe he even got fired), but unfortunately didn't confirm or deny the "always online" feature.
Whether or not this bit of information is true, this news is outrageous all the same (IF it's true). Didn't Microsoft learn from the Sim City incident? Shouldn't that have been enough proof of why constantly needng an internet connection to play is a bad idea? Hell, in this case it's worse because Sim City is just one game. There's plenty of other games I can play on my PC if the internet is down. With the new Xbox, I'll be locked out of ALL game if my internet is down or if the server crashes, even if the game doesn't feature online multiplayer.
I understand why they're doing it; to weaken piracy, but all this does is create too many problems and punishes honest players. What if I want to play a local game when my friends come over but the internet crashes? What if I don't want to play online and just want to play a single player game? What if the servers crash or are down for maintenance? More importantly of all, what's going to happen years from now when severs go offline like with the original Xbox? Too bad, we're all just SOL. No internet, no games. How fun.
"Deal with it" you say? Sure, I'll deal with it.......Hello Playstation 4!!!
