All About Squeakyfiend

    I am old.

I feel like I'm getting old. I have no time to play games anymore. Wahhh!

There it is. Rant over. Ok, maybe not.

I'll elaborate for you. I'm just about to finish my final year at University (Only 2 more stress filled months to go!) and whilst it's been a blast, it's totally destroyed my gaming life. You're probably thinking: 'But Squeaky, you're doing Games Design, so you must be playing games all day!', but believe me, I most definately am not. Which as a massive gamer, totally sucks.

You know how people finish doing something and all they need is a 'nice, long bath'?, well all I need is a nice long gaming session!

Do We Just Love To Hate?

I've just read the article on the front page about the newest installment in the Final Fantasy series: Lightning Returns, and I've got to say I'm pretty shocked at some of the comments.

I'm going to be honest here and say that I have only played FF13 and FF13-2, (but I absolutely loved them and clocked up well in excess of 200 hours playing time on them) so you're well within your rights to tell me I know nothing about the series and so on, but here's my opinion anyway,

A lot of people on this and many other sites claim to be 'huge' fans of game series', just like the aforementioned Final Fantasy games or other household names such as Resident Evil and Devil May Cry yet they seem to absolutely slam any new installment.

It's therefore common sense to say that they simply cannot be a fan of that series. They are a fan of one or two particular games, just like I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of Final Fantasy, I'd say I'm a fan of the two games I have played and loved.

So going back to the title of this post, I think it's fair to say that some people don't like how a series is going and so have to replace what would have been their love for a new game into a 'love to hate'. They just can't help themselves.

So I think that with the news that game sales have fallen by something like a quarter in the past year, we have to embrace new games and just enjoy them for what they are. If you are one of these people who moans at every new game that comes out, I have a message for you:

You are ruining the games industry, not the people that make Call of Duty or any other popular game.

Youare scaring developers into making clones of their previous games and not experimenting for fear of bad sales. Despite what you think, a lot of developers do listen to serious suggestions/complaints from fans.

As a community of gamers, we need to inspire growth and creativity in the industry, not prevent it.

    A Giant Falls...

So I imagine most of you (UK'ers at least) have heard the news about GAME going into administration. This both saddens me and instills in me some hope.

While I do feel Game is an integral part of the gaming community in the UK (I regularly go to town with friends and hang out in Game looking for some cool pre-owned deals), I think this will be a chance for independant retailers to claw back some of their lost market share. This could mean even more cool places to go to for games and a much wider choice which can only be a good thing!
