    Dvader rates my collection

Dvader recently rated my collection in his blog. I got a 9.8.

Its a great score, and I agree with everything he said. But, it made me wonder what I will do with all my games when I go to college (I am a rising senior). I surely can't bring 600+ games to college. I think I will just bring the next gen consoles and handhelds with me. But even then, thats 96 games plus however many games I buy from this year to the next. I guess I will have to have to buy some awesome storage system. Oh, and whats even worse, I will have to share a TV! My roommate will be so pissed at me the whole time...I will be up shouting orders to my guild at 2 AM, and then hogging the TV during the day. I hope I get a gamer roommate so we can at least do it together, but then we will fight over the TV in 1 player games. Argh! I don't think the room would have enough space for 2 TVs...

Any advice from you college kids? What did you do?

    Should I submit more reviews?

I have completed a lot of games and I could submit plenty of reviews atm but, I don't know how much they are wanted. I do not have many viewers of my profile right now and I am thinking that I should write reviews once I have more views. So, I want your feedback: does anyone actually read this? Would anyone actually read my reviews at this point?

Silence the naysayers! Sonic in 3D CAN work!

A few unexceptional attempts at a 3D Sonic and people just assume that it "can't work". Sure it can. Sonic is not like Street Fighter; it can be compared to Mario in its design. A sidescroller is a sidescroller, regardless of the speed of its gameplay. Sonic can be transferred to 3D, it is just a bit more difficult. And, no, I don't mean some pseudo-3D on-rails gameplay, I mean, real 360 degrees action. Here are my suggestions:

    3D related suggestions:

    1. Stupify the enemy AI. Believe it or not, it would actually produce a better game. Sonic enemies are at their best when they don't actually force you to stop and fight them. The rooms where you have to fight enemies in Sonic Rush was not a good idea...no one plays Sonic to fight enemies. Sonic enemies need to be things you can kill while maintaining an awesome amount of speed. Create stationary enemies that can be hit as you move along rather than enemies with a gun, a shield, and multiple hit points. One hit should be enough to kill anything in a Sonic game.

    2. Implement the boost system of Sonic Rush. One of the major problems with a 3D Sonic is that when you bump into a wall, you lose all of your speed. With 3 dimensions, it is fairly easy to bump into things accidentally, and a speed boost would resolve that. Sonic and the secret rings was a step in the right direction.

    3. Platforming needs to be fast. You do not want a player to stop, jump from platform to platform, land, and then try to build up his speed again. He should be moving quickly as he moves across platforms. If you have played line rider, you would know that this is very possible; quick platforming is possible, it has just never been done before. Don't let the player choose to move slowly either, because they will naturally tend to due to prior gaming experiences; put speed boosters on platforms.

    4. No spring should be angled upward. A horizontal or slightly angled spring is best. An upward angled spring makes a player stop when they land and accelerate once more. Speed needs to be sustained at all times.

    5. Make Sonic (and co.) jump faster and lose the homing attack. Sonic jumps amazingly slow in comparison to how fast he runs, very much in line with the speed in which Mario jumps, except with an even longer airtime. If his jumping is fast, he can attack enemies quicker (and move on immediately after he kills them. He would just plow through them rather than "popping" off enemies), move from platform to platform quicker, and be less cautious about the airtime of his jump (when you jump in Sonic games now, he stays in the air for what seems to be forever). The homing attack stops his speed, and relies on that airtime and the "popping" effect which I wish to remove.

    6. Move closer and closer to the Sonic Adventure games in terms of design. They were easily the best 3D Sonic games, and should be refined. They had their quirks, but they are the best that we have seen thus far.

    7. Make Sonic able to move left and right with greater ease. In current games, Sonic moves like a truck. In a 3D world, this isn't an amazing gameplay mechanic. He needs to be able to swivel left and right quickly, even unnaturally, as he moves. Make his movement concave rather than convex; he needs to be able to move side to side while running rather than doing a slightly inward turn. Think of it as if he was strafing but while running.

    8. Keep grinding. I know this isn't much of a suggestion but I love grinding so, so much. It is just really fun .

Non-3D related suggestions that have ruined some of the Sonic games:

    1. Drop the characters and gameplay paradigms that aren't fun to play. Anyone who played the Sonic Adventure games can tell you that the Sonic/Shadow sections of the game were the best. Treasure hunting and mech trekking sucked. There is no need to try to make 3 games at once; it only leads to a more shallow experience overall. No one is impressed when you add new characters such as Cream, Blaze, Silver, etc. It just makes everything much more confusing. Stick to Sonic, Shadow, Tails and Knuckles. Now, when I say Tails and Knuckles, I don't mean that you make them slow. They should be fast, but with slightly different controls, thats all.

    2. Heard the music in Sonic Rush? Thats a HUGE step in the right direction. Small factors like this make or break games, and they should be payed attention to. Less hard rock please.

    3. Get good voice actors. And writers for that matter. If you are going to do a storyline, at least do it right. If you don't want to, ignore it completely and focus on gameplay. I recommend the former, but I still hold reservations when considering it as the center of a Sonic game. I think that Sonic should have a decent storyline, like a Mario game, but it should pause the action too much.

    4. Flesh out Shadow's character more. People are getting disappointed at how he has been transformed from SA2 to a whiny, angsty badass stereotype character. There is so much potential in his character design and backstory that he is the only "new" Sonic character worth keeping. He can be great, just don't give him a gun.
