    Summer Vacation's Over

Summer vacation is nearing it's end. My final year in high school starts in a few hours. Horray!

This last and final summer vacation as a teenager was by far the best summer vacation in my life. I just can't believe it's already over. I guess times flies when you're having fun... or when you sleep in.

I did a lot of things I intended to do before but never did because of school - non-YouTube related. A side of me wanted to make over 100 videos for YouTube but the other side of me wanted to avoid the pressure of video dead-lines as much as possible, so I just did whatever I thought was entertaining and worth my time.

Most of the time when I wasn't listening to music on Winamp, I was playing video-games I never played before and watching movies I never watched before.

I hate explaining things so here are some lists.

    Video games:
    Apollo Justice
    Okami
    Killer7
    Ico
    Chrono Trigger DS Announcement
    Banjo-Kazooie XBLA Announcement
    Ratchet and Clank
    Braid
    Brawl hacking
    ..all I can remember.

    Movies:
    Ravenous
    Cloverfield
    Hancock
    The Dark Knight
    The Truman Show
    Babel
    Harold & Kumar 2
    V for Vendetta
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead
    Heaven
    ..all I can remember.

    I also...
    went to Comic-con 2008.
went to a new bowling alley / arcade / laser tag arena.
love the Homebrew Channel for the Wii.
am learning how to code using MediaWiki.
bought my first item from eBay, Pump it Up Exceed.
made a new layout for my website. I think it looks pretty nifty.
    started watching ThatGuyWithTheGlasses' videos.
started reading some hilarious articles by Maddox.
started listening to Dick Masterson's voicemails.
listened to a total of 3491 music tracks according to Last.fm, less tracks than last summer, surprisingly.

    I'm sure there's a lot more things I missed.

I'd also like to thank my friends for making my summer vacation worth-while. You guys/girls are awesome.

A special thanks to my fellow moderators and members at GTA Legends, most notably GTAPs2SanA, mosespippy, J-man725, lawz, bureksasutlijom, Hamster, X-gamer-88, conflict rules. GameSpot has been through rough times in the past... People started leaving late last year, GameSpot has been ignoring unions completely, but we still manage to prevent our union from being washed up by the tides of GameSpot's fate. That really means a lot. Thanks a lot... I wish there is a way to repay you all... This paragraph will have to do for now.

Well, indoctrination will start soon.... See you guys again, eventually!

    GameStop Employees Are Idiots

I want to try out this DDR-like game called Pump It Up Exceed. It was released in 2005 but I didn't think much of it. Pump It Up is like DDR except instead of completely ripping it off (like In The Groove), the arrows on the dance mat point diagonally and there's a jump button in the middle. It adds some variety and was something different... unlike some other games (like In The Groove).

Let's turn the DDR dance mat 45 degrees! Brilliant!

Yesterday, I decided to consult the only gaming store I know that has a stash of really old PS2 and Xbox games, GameStop. Over the phone, a GameStop employee said they had a used copy of Pump It Up Exceed for the Xbox in stock without the dance mat. I then asked if they had the correct PiU dance mat available separately. They said yes. I asked if they were sure. They said yes. Again, I asked if they were really really sure. They said yes.

Anyway, I was relieved I didn't need to hassle buying Pump it Up from eBay, Amazon, Play-Asia or whatever. I happily opened the doors of the GameStop and asked for the game along with the dance mat. The employee brought out the game and a DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION dance mat. What an idiot!!! I left the store in disgust and was too angry to pre-order Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.

GameStop Employees are idiots. What more can I say about them?

Today, I bought Pump it Up Exceed WITH the dance mat at eBay. $6.99. Good price, right? But the shipping came out to $15.75. Online shopping is a ****. More on Pump it Up soon.

And yes, I own an Xbox 1... along with a NES, SNES, Genesis, and Virtual Boy... I'll explain later.

    The Days To Hold Onto

I've been keeping track of Beta.GameSpot.com, the public beta of GameSpot's newest site design, for some time now, watching everything gradually change, and waiting for the moment it's eventually released. A few weeks later, GameSpot Wide was finally released on August 14th, 2008.

I can't really say if I like the new look or not. Nothing has been removed and nothing new has been added. All the features are still here and I'm still typing with the same terrible WYSIWYG editor.

GameSpot Wide definitely has a better presentation than 2005's redesign, though. The redesign in 2005 was very buggy... well, at least the forums were. Some of you may remember... the blank page bug, images disappearing, hyperlinks unlinked... it was a nightmare. It was so bad, GameSpot was given the nickname "GlitchSpot." You would have thought the forums would be bug free after a month+ long absence.

The nostalgic part of me misses the previous look, though, despite how much I hated it before. Heh. It's like a line in this song, "Every broken man comes to understand that he'll never find paradise when all that he wants was there all the time."

This time, the designers at GameSpot managed to change the look but completely ignore the forums (as expected) thus avoiding any possible forum bugs or glitches. I kinda wish GameSpot does do something with the unions though, without making us deal with any forum shutdowns or annoying forum bugs.

My final thoughts... GameSpot Wide isn't a huge improvement and it looks like something I can get used to. Personally, I still prefer the good ol' blue layout when I first joined.

But as Godot from Phoenix Wright would say...

The world, you see, keeps turning, and we must turn with it...
