Going Daily???
Could it be possible for me to actually blog daily? As a defunct gamer I don't think so! The game that I've been playing right now is Age of Empires II and Halo. (Just AoE II and Halo...the first one). Oh and yes every now and then I may play Railroad Tycoon II.
I am currently far away from my home in Michigan where my wonderful XBOX, just an XBOX resides. So with my Dell Inspiron 1100 I am left will little choices of what I can play. I am suprised my laptop can actually handled the Halo that I downloaded off of Ares.
Back at home... not much different. On my XBOX I'll just play Elder Scrolls II: Morrowind; Madden 06; and if I am really bored; WWE Raw II. Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
At school (Penn State); it's a totally different story. My friend has the XBOX 360 and the one game we play all the time with our other friends is Call of Duty II. Probably te best WWII sim I've ever seen, and that's probably because it's the only one I've ever played. And then of course there is Oblivion, whenever I get the urge to procrastinate, I can always enter a world full of lower flowers to pick and evil deadroth (is that a double negative) to kill.
And yes playing 360 may attribute to my recent onset of laziness, and may attribute to my love for Thompsons and dai-katana's, and it may attribute to my GPA slipping to a 2.92; but it does not cause cancer!
In closing, I am simply not the gamer that I want to be; but when I graduate; and God and wife willing, I sure will be. And if anyone actually cares to read this, it will be here. Later.

What Should Next Gen Really Be?
I know we are smack dab in the middle of the next-gen wars between the three game hardware giants. Microsoft has struck first blood with the XBOX 360. Nintendo Revolution, I mean Wii, looks to "revolutionize" the "game controller". Sony's Playstation 3 will bankrupt all of us.
But of course what really matters above all is that they provide with next generation graphics, sound, gameplay, replay value. I mean after all these are the criteria that most games are based on right?
Unfortunatly, most the next generation war power has been focused on one thing, making game "look" more realistic. That is with the exception of the Wii, which is aiming for more player movement integration. Microsoft so far has simply come out with the same games that came out with the XBOX. Whether its a watered down Madden game, to Elder Scrolls, or Dead Alive to Halo; Microsoft has only improved on graphics.
Who knows what Sony will do, but sources have been telling me that it will be too expensive to take part in anyway.
So what should next generation be? I've berated the big three, and said nothing about what next generation should be. In my mind next generation exceeds the previous generation. Pretty simply right? Well not just in graphics. Gameplay, and ideas, the whole way of playing a game should be revamped.
As we go into the future I don't even want to see game controllers anymore. I'm taken back to the movie Minority Report. Tom Cruise wears a glove and is able to navigate around windows on a futuristic window screen. The Wii once again seems to be the closest to implementing that idea.
As we go into the future, I want to see headset, or even simpler a pair of glasses that immerse the wearer in a complete virtual world. I wonder if anyone is even thinking about this?
I see the future of videogaming as a new virtual world, parallel to our world. Where we can live out our fantasies, and truly be there to experience things without the repercussions of real life. If next generation were really next generation we should be there by now.
Unfortunatly, in this money making society no one is willing to take the risk to really go on a limb, and meanwhile are satisfied with next-gen graphics for a game that we've played already- Posted Jun 17, 2006 3:59 pm GMT
