If times are tough, why not go downloadable?
This is something I have been wondering for a while now. It seems that this recession is starting to hit game sales now. This is probably because people don't have the enough money to buy 4-6 $60 games. Which leads to people saving their money for the usually heavy holiday line up of titles (which doesn't see like that's going to happen this year.).
That got me to thinking what about this great opportunity of downloadable games. These games are relatively more adorable. You right now could go on to Xbox live, PSN or Wii Ware and find a well done game for a reasonable asking price. Looking through all the titles its a lot easier at least for me it is way easier to get $10 out of my pocket than $60. Even if the game isn't stellar I usually don't feel like I have wasted my money.
So if you're a game developer/publisher why not look in to this market. If a couple man team can make a great downloadable games. Just imagine what a full team of developers could do. If they were to focus their resources to make an adorable downloadable title the game would probably be of high quality.
A problem with most downloadable titles is there is little to no marketing for them. If there was a marketing team getting the word out that the new downloadable game by Bungie (just an example) comes out Sept. 15. I'm sure that would obtain people's interest. Just some simple marketing would help out to get more eligible customers looking around the download stores on the home consoles.
This is just speculation on my part but if these developers were to focus on the downloadable stores available to them. They could release more interesting titles and wouldn't always have to go for the safe bet. This is because I'm assuming if you have a whole team working on small downloadable games (and if they were to focus on the games. I'm guessing the games would become larger in the attempt to obtain more interest from consumer) it won't take to long to develop. So you would be able to make a few games a year have a better chance in selling the games for $10 an pop then making one $60 retail game every 2 years or so. This allows for developers to make more out there game without getting burned as bad if it doesn't sell because they can just try harder on another project and get it out in the next few months.
This is just what I'm thinking especially in the current financial state the world is in it seem like a good idea. This is my idea to help the people in the games industry out. What do you people reading this think?

I got a situation any ideas?
So I went shopping in the USA today. (I live in Canada). When I was there I picked up a PSN network card for $20. Hoping for when I get home to use it and buy Fat Princess. But it doesn't work.. Any ideas?

My 2 day E3 highlights
What I like out of Microsoft:
-Project Natal ( I hope it really works)
-Allen Wake (don't know much but demo shown make this look awesome)
-This is were I should be like 2 new Halo games (but I don't care for Halo but it is worth noting it was there)
What I like from Nintendo:
-New Legend of Zelda ( I would have preferred Wind Waker graphics though)
- Mario Galaxy 2 (this wasn't a surprise.. Maybe just the title)
-Kingdom Hearts 358/2 (I need some type of Kingdom Hearts hopefully this is good)
-Wii motion plus (but we saw this last year as well)
What I like from Sony:
- The new Eye Toy + Motion controller
-God of War 3 (way more kid friendly)
-Final Fantasy 14 Online (wait final fantasy 14 did they get the memo that Final Fantasy 13 isn't out yet)
- The PSP push (50 new PS1 coming to PSN)
- PSP Go
- Final Fantasy 7 to PSN ( Much rather have FF 8 or 9)
What I like coming out of developers:
-Assassins Creed 2
-Mass Effect 2
-Knights of The Old Republic
-Brutal Legend
-Modern Warfare 2 (snowmobile combat didn't I see that in the Star Wars movies)
-The awkward feelings I got from them showing of their casual titles
-Final Fantasy 13 (look amazing cant wait to get it in 2015. Just giving them time in-case they delay it again)
There is more E3 to come if I get time I may make a new list. But for now this is it.
