Better late than never. My blog about things.
Assassin's Creed is finished

Well I finished another of last years highly touted games. I garnered 660 Achievement points, found all the secret ones. The only ones I didn't get for the most part were the flag collection points. A boring and useless for the most part way to extend the hours of gameplay without adding anything. You know its funny, when I first got the game on it's release, I could never really get into it. I decided about 4 days ago I was going to try again.

This time I got into to it deep. At it's core AC is a hack and slash type game with some amazing sword fights, platforming, good stealth killing, and some interesting plot points that have some meaning pertaining to today's world. The game grows on you if you give it a chance. Some of the animation of the characters is amazing, the faces look very real and the characters say many different things. You would be hard pressed to say that the characters did or said much the same way, the main ones that is. Some of the city dwellers are very similar. The cities and area's are all extremely detailed if not a bit on the dark gray and brown side. This really sets the tone well as it is in the desert mostly, in a very dark time in our history. I felt this game portrayed the time period very well. I loved climbing the high points and getting the Eagle Vision, there was something extremely satisfying about it.

I really enjoyed this game once I got into it, I had to see it through to the end. I hope they do a sequel. As I find myself wanting more. I have to say this was one of last years most enjoyable games once I gave it a chance. If any of you like me put the game down after a few hours of play, I urge you pick it up again. Give it a chance, I think you won't regret it.

All in All this was one of the top games I have finished lately along with Uncharted.

Gamestop they are good for something afterall!

Well today I received some games I had bought used from Ebay. It was a comics shop in NY. Two Wii Games Super Paper Mario, and Metroid 3 it was a very good price as far as I was concerned been looking for these two used for a while. They arrived quickly and without troubles in 3 days. So I plug in super Paper Mario, everything was fine worked no problem. Then I had TROUBLES

I put the Metroid 3 disc in, it came up with you must update your system please wait. ok I figured no big deal. Waited about 3 or 4 minutes, then tried to play Metroid 3 again, the Title screen came up I click the go to game icon everything goes dark, disc is spinning and spinning, finally error comes up could not read disc WTF? I clean disc which has a few minor scratches try again same thing. Great I'm f**ed!%$^$%%^&&*((&*&*&( So I email guy, did not get response right away. I had a bright Why not try and exchange it at Gamestop? I mean some of the people are total A-holes and won't do it no matter what I know that, but I also know there are some really decent people that can get stuck working at these places. Those are the ones that don't give a crap about stupid rules and such and its no skin off their back to just exchange my disc for a working one. So I go about calling first, why bother if the guys a total A-hole on the phone odds are yeah... No on the first Call, no receipt no disc. Call 2 nice guy he's says sure No receipt no problem, no stickers from GS don't worry. I go in he grabs a new looking Metroid 3 from an drawer takes mine out of my box puts that one in I go home GREAT! Thats how it should be, I'm not trying to rip anyone off I just want a working Metroid 3 and now I have it.

I have to say I have not been one to frequent GS or EB in the last good many years because of A-holes working their, but man is this a nice way to be treated. This is the second time I have done this, I bought Tekken DR PSP online new and sealed it was defective never worked, I bought that from NJ online. I took it to GS even though the guy knew I did not buy it their he replaced it so I could play my game, that's a decent human being. I'm starting to like this one GS they have really good people and don't look at me like I'm crazy for buying games as a 43 year old. BTW I got an email back from the comic shop they were willing to send out a working copy with an envelope to send old one back so if this did not work I was covered but still this was so much less hassle.

PS: Metroid 3 on Wii is far better than either Gamecube game. I hated the the GC controller I really did, I also hated the N64 controller btw. Once you get use to the motion control its great ! At first aiming and looking with the Wiimote is a bit herky jerky, but after the first hour I felt like Samus' arm was attached to my arm I never felt that way with the GC versions. I really like the level design so far, the game is just fun. On GC I felt it was more of a chore to play.

My First GS game night COD 4 360
My First GS gamenight, was a lot of fun. I played with my buddy Wafflerevolution and few others like DouglasBuffone. Even though I was a bottom feeder I had great fun. I play most of my FPS on the PC, but I wanted to play with my XBLA friends and GS and for the most part I was not disappointed. My thanks go out to Shaun and Kevin from GS who set everything up and it ran pretty smooth including a chat which Kevin ran while playing(hey Kev how the heck did you manage that?). I guess there were some new folks from a merged site? Some sports site I was not too clear about but hey it was all good. any readers of my blog play also? I had a hard time telling who was playing that I knew besides the people I came with. I'm most definitely planning to play in another GS gamenight soon.

Thoughts on being Charted

Well I finally finished Uncharted tonight. I like to take my time and play a bunch of games at once so I finish them at all different times and never rarely get bored. I took my time with Uncharted as I enjoyed it so much, I did not want it to be over. I'm not the best gamer I admit that, I took about 12.5 hours to finish it. I'm not in some contest to prove to everyone I'm a great gamer, because I'm not. It does not mean I love it any less. I did not find all the treasure either maybe a little more than a 1/3. 23 or 24 of 60. Again its not like I need to find every treasure so I can say I got all 60 look at me. I'm too old to worry about that, I will leave that to young gamers.

I loved the visuals and story of this game, yes it has been done before, I don't think its been all that much better certainly not from a control, or style point. I thought the controls were spot on. I never got frustrated like some other 3rd person view games. The camera gave a me little troubles here and there but nothing that took away from the game in any big way. Lots of games I'm not motivated to finish, this was not one of them, I knew I would finish this one but just not right away. Without a doubt this is the best game I own on Playstation 3. I will most likely play it again, not too many games I finish do I ever go back play again, I'm fairly sure I will with this one.

This is the kind of game that I had in mind when Sony said the next generation starts here. I love the duck and cover system, I don't think I have seen it done better. I have seen it done close (GEARS OF WAR) but it never felt as good I guess because GEARS was always multiplayer and I never got to cover long because some #%$^%$^%$ was sneaking up behind if I did and sawing or tag fragging me. In final I would say we need to see more original IP like this, not just from Sony but from every game maker out there. Sony has set the bar high, now lets see them break it. MS, Nintendo I'm calling you out:: We need new IP, we need new idea's, and gamer's should demand nothing less.

On a side note I'm watching Austin City Limits a live music show where they have all kinds of acts every few days. Tonight its a little band called Wilco a mellow country type rock band but more of a folk type. they are really good and have been around a long time kind of like me. I assume most people here have never heard of them. If you like mellow folksy music with some great guitar licks check them out.

I'm going to post my Art collection again, in the hopes some of might view and enjoy it.

Update 2/2/08

Well some things went well others not. I'm not sure if it is worth the hassle to sell the rest. I have to think on it. In the mean time thank you to those who are going ahead with the things they commited to. At the very least this will allow me to buy some of the new games up and coming I want for a few months. Not sure you will see me posting any other items at this time. THANKS AGAIN GS faithful.

For those interested in just a game or piece off these lists I woule be more willing to trade those items for Wii PS3 or 360 and PSP games check my collection list to see if the game you are willing to trade is one I already have. I would consider trades on the GBC and GBA setups.

I'm continuing to inventory and document but I won't be listing anything else for a while until I get the first batch of stuff shipped and paid on. I think I need to slow down a little. so the task of shipping does not become unmanagable I thank everyone for their support and patience.
