With a mediocre movie! I seen The Fourth Kind last night and it was quite forgettable. Everything about it was average and boring. Quite a disappointment. 5/10
Let's hope Paranormal Activity lives up to the hype! (whenever I go to see it... if I do..)
and for all who asked last blog, I was suspended for trolling. I deserved it since I did take it a bit far! Tonight I'm going down with my friends to the Modern Warfare 2 Midnight thing. The game will be terrible, but I'm going down for the fun.
Thanks for reading!

From a suspension (which I deserved, of course). Times really get boring when you can't post in anything! I guess I'll be a little more careful.
My week off for Halloween was fun and Halloween night was quite fun too. Me and a couple of friends watched A Nightmare on Elm Street and Dawn of the Dead. Elm Street was quite bad and I don't get the hype about it. Some really cool parts, but the whole movie was meh. Dawn is as good as ever. Excellent movie.
I was sick from Sunday night to Thursday. I must have caught something off my brother/dad.

Ever get the feeling "this is the best thing ever?" Well, I did last night.
(right click and view images to see them better)

"Surrounded"
Green Day was so epic. It's easily the best gig I've been to and could be the best thing I've done in my entire life. I just can't get over how great they are live. The support band was okay, but they were quite boring. Right up until I heard "Song of the Century" playing I wasn't too excited. When it started playing in the background a smile lit up on my face and I stood up. When the band came out one by come I was as giddy as a school girl. I immediately started taking photos of them on the digital camera (which wasn't charged enough) it ran out after a song, so I got the rest of the photos on my phone. They're not the best quality, but they still capture the epicness which was that show. Everything about it tops the other two gigs I was at before. The sound was brilliant, especially compared to when I went to see Trivium. The arena had quite alot of people in it, probably double of what was there at Machine Head. Just everything about the show completely obliterates the other two shows I went to.
"Hundreds of people"
One thing that really stood out to me was the audience interaction. Most of the songs slowed down around the middle so that Billie Joe could get the audience singing along. When the songs kicked back in there was explosions most of the time, and it was extremely awesome everytime it happened. They actually got a few audience members up on stage. One of the children was told to spray water over the audience as Billie Joe did, too. They got a girl up to sing along to Longview and suprisingly she got the crowd going by shouting "Come on Belfast" and she jumped up on the speakers mimicing Billie Joe himself. Some other noveltys include toilet paper shooters, lots and lots of confetti in the song before the Encore, the encore itself where they played 5 more songs.

"Billie with a child audience member"
They played 26 songs in total and played for 2 hours and 40-ish minutes. Well worth the money. The songs they played include (but not limited to) American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown, 21 Guns, Static Age, Are We The Waiting, St. Jimmy, Jesus of Suburbia, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Good Riddance, Holiday, Jaded, Brainstew, She, Basket Case, Welcome to Paradise, Longview, When I Come Around, King for a Day, Minority etc

"the platform"
Random thing: When me and my dad moved to the other side of the arena for an easier way out (before the traffic clogged up the place) I stood beside a girl who started talking to me, which I thought was really random. She put her arm around me and shouted "WOOOO" I was just like "What the?!". She followed that up by asking if they were finishing up soon, and I knew that there was only 1 or 2 songs left so I replied with that. She literally gave a "
" face and said "Such a brilliant show" I just agreed. There was really no meaning behind me writing this, but I just thought it was pretty cool that even randomers at a concert can get along. Especially with me being the only long haired male at the whole show.
"Sparky"
It was probably the most fun and best time I've ever had in my life. I will not hesistate to see them next year. I'm still shocked at how good it was. Brilliant times a thousand.
Machine Head Gig Blog - Trivium Gig Blog
Facebook Photo album of all the photos taken. The one video I recorded.
Using those blogs as examples alone it's safe to say I loved Green Day a billion times more than those gigs put together.

I wish it never ended.

I have leveled up again! DJ Boy? Anyone mind explaining what this one is? That's one more level closer to 40...
Tomorrow I am going to see Green Day. I'm excited, but the fact that I'm going to see them hasn't exactly hit me yet. I think it will sometime in school tomorrow.

One question: Why are most up to date horror remakes nearly always terrible?
The many, many remakes in the last couple of years have almost all been quite bad. Some exceptions include The Hills Have Eyes, Dawn of the Dead and Halloween (I liked it, okay Sammy?
). I watched The Last House on the Left remake today. Before watching I was fully expecting another terrible, crappy remake.... but I was completely suprised. This movie is among the ones listed above, and is a really decent movie in its own right. The only thing wrong with it that some of the kills were a bit over the top. Looking for a good remake? Then go see this film. Thanks for reading.

Ja! I stayed away from Sunday - Wednesday to see how it would be without a computer. The answer: Extremely boring. But I did get to watch The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.. a movie I said I'd watch at the start of the year along with the other two, it went like this:
Fellowship of the Ring - January
The Two Towers - April
Return of the King - October
Some "watch them all in a week" that was. Well, sorry I missed your blogs, I'll start commenting on the new ones right away. I also went paintballing on Saturday, which was extremely fun.

Yes, it's that time of the year again. But this time it's special.
5 Years!
Yes, I've been on this site for half a decade. Keeping the blog short, all I need to say is "thanks" to everyone I have met during these long (and brilliant) 5 years at Gamespot.

Here's to another 5!

Just a little blog showing off the books I bought... (right click and view images to see them fully)

Here are all of them, with the hardcovers on top and the paperbacks on the bottom. (I was suprised I got so many hardbacks)

Comparison of the old paperback I had of Rose Madder, and the new hardback I got. The hardback is in far better condition.

Comparison of the size of the smallest and biggest book. The Stand is easilly the largest book at 1400 pages, Dolores is only 300. A Toothbrush is in the picture for scales sake.

Another scale picture. The Stand really is massive.

I watched District 9 yesterday, and it was one of the best films I've seen all year. It truly amazed me, and is alot better than the trash movies like The Final Destination. I'm not going into a full review, but I'll just shortly described what I liked about it. I loved the half mockumentary/action film approach to the movie. Wikus (main character) was a great character, and very well played by a first time actor. The aliens looked incredible and realistic. The story was actually pretty awesome. I could go on, but if you haven't seen this movie you should go watch it right now.
On the money side of things, I have bought some new books. The Stand, Insomnia, Needful Things, Dolores Claibourne and Nightmares & Dreamscapes. All by the one and only, Stephen King. Hopefully they'll arrive soon.

Especially when you don't know what to spend it on! I have £110, but I have no idea what I should buy. Usualy when I don't have money, I have a big list of things that I want. Does this ever happen to anyone else?
My second week of tech is also quite good. I'm getting settled down now, and getting used to waking up early and stuff. So far, the work has been the same kind of stuff I did last year, so I'm used to it. I can see this year being great...
The Evil Dead continues to be the best horror movie of all time...

I am now level 37!
Last night I had a joint birthday party along with two other people. We had it in a steak house, and it was the first time I went there. I also tried steak for the first time, too. It was okay, but it was alot different than what I was expecting. After that about half of the group went home, and the half I was in went to a bar. It was a fun night, and the music was great since we got to put on Queen.
Also, it's my birthday on Tuesday, so expect a blog about that then.
On monday I actually start my first project in tech. So I wonder what exactly we are going to be doing..

Also, I dinged blog 300! (this is 301, but shh).
Tomorrow me and two friends are having a joint birthday party, and I will tell you all about it later.

Inspired by the blogs JustPlainLucas makes about books, I will do the same since I count reading as one of my main hobbies now.
I'm just going to state how I felt on the last book I read. Every 5 books (I may change it to 3 depending on how fast I read them) I will make another volume! Simple.
In order from March - Now:
Night Shift (Stephen King)
This was a collection of short stories, and every one of them bar one was excellent and different. The only bad one was the very first because it was really dull and I struggled to read it. It isn't a good way to open a short story collection, but it gets way better from there. My favourite was Night Surf.
Rose Madder (Stephen King)
This is the longest book I've read so far (600 pages), and it is great the whole way. With a great opening, and switching the point of view every few chapters, it stays quite fresh. The supernatural part of it is also quite interesting in the way it ties to The Dark Tower.
Gerald's Game (Stephen King)
This was a good book to read since it was mainly set in the one place the whole time, but the flashbacks really flesh out the characters. Some of the things that happen were quite different than to what I was used to, but it was a great read.
'Salem's Lot (Stephen King)
I was truly speechless after finishing this book. With a large and excellent cast of characters that keep the book going and a great layout of chapters, this book is one of the best I've read. It really felt like a true living breathing town, and it's the first book to actually have me a bit scared..
Misery (Stephen King)
Expanding on the "set in the one room" from Gerald's Game, this novel takes it a bit further by literally staying in the one room the whole time, and focusing on what the character is doing in that time. The lackluster Misery parts (which are few and far between) are the only bad thing about this book. They have nothing really to do with the plot, and you can go ahead and skip 'em. Great novel.
You can say I went on a Stephen King phase (which doesn't look like it's letting up). He's a truly great author, and you should check out all of these books. Thanks for reading.

This is a blog for me to say my final thoughts on the reviews. Yeah, I had a fun time writing them. But I have to admit, it was annoying because I didn't want to write blogs in between the reviews, so I had long durations between the reviews sometimes. You could say I'm glad they're over now.
But the main reason about this blog is to change some of the ratings. I'm not happy with some of them, because I didn't exactly plan them out. Here are the changes:
(* means not changed)
Images & Words: 9/10 is changing to 10/10
Awake: 6/10*
Falling Into Infinity: 6/10 is changing to 5/10
Scenes From A Memory: 9/10*Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence: 8/10 is changing to7/10
Train of Thought: 8/10*
Octavarium - 7/10 *
Systematic Chaos - 6/10 *
Black Clouds and Silver Linings - 9/10*These are my final thoughts on DTs albums. "Images and Words" is their best album, with "Scenes From A Memory" and "BC and Silver Linings" following. I wont have another long reviewing thing like this for a good while, but when I do you'll know first. Thanks for sticking with me through all these reviews, and do yourselves a favour and go listen to them!
Also, tomorrow is the next step in my education. Let's hope it's fun..

Welcome for the very last time to my Dream Theater review blogs. For the last time, the non DT stuff is below the review.
Opening with the sound of thunder and a piano "A Nightmare to Remember" begins. With a very heavy intro, which I was slightly surprised to hear. It reminds me of the heaviness Train Of Thought had, except with a very choir sound along with it. When it switches up the pace before it becomes too repetitive, I immediately knew that this album wasn't going to have any overlong songs. With some excellent drumming from Mike Portnoy, and really heavy sounding riffs from John Petrucci, this song had me hooked from the beginning. When James actually begins singing, it is a very aggressive but something about it sounds great. Switching the pace several more times, and the sound of a car crashing in the background (to do with the songs story) this song keeps the consistency up. It is filled with excellent and memorable moments. My favourite of which is the part set in the hospital where both Mike and James are singing in a normal voice. My least favourite would be the weird growling Mike Portnoy does It only lasts a few seconds, but at first I really didn't like it, but it grew on me. Being the opener, and at a colossal 16 minutes, it is good that it keeps being consistently great the whole way through. It gave me a good impression for this album.
"A Rite of Passage" is the albums first single, and reminds me alot of Constant Motion from the previous album. Not in sound, but that it is the single and it has that great non-mainstream sound. Petrucci takes the spot light for this song with his well crafted riffs and solos. I can't forget Jordan Rudess' solo that he performs on his iPhone. Yes, his iPhone. It has a really odd and sci-fi type sound. If I could recommend the most accessible song from the album, this would probably be it. "Wither" is the shortest song on the full album, being only a mere 5 minutes, it doesn't really rank among the other songs of the album. It is the slow/ballad song of the album, and one of the most disappointing. It's a good song, yes, but very disappointing. If it was the first song, with the first two after it I would probably like it more. From the first two tracks, I thought the album would be great as a whole, but Wither just stops it right in it's tracks. Leaving the next song to start it back up again...
"The Shattered Fortress" is the final, and best part in the 12 Step Suite written by Mike Portnoy. Opening with a riff that begins at a very low volume, but gradually gets louder and louder. When it finally kicks in, both Portnoy and Petrucci are in full throttle. This song is basically all of the previous parts in the Suite put together, but not in a mesh kind of way. Along with a good amount of riffs written for this song itself, it is easilly a great stand alone song, too. After the disappointing Repentance, this song really makes up for it. It even has the best parts from that song, and puts them all together elegantly. Everyone is top notch as always. James sings nearly exactly the way he did on the other parts, and makes a little change here and there to keep it fresh. Truly one of their best.
"The Best of Times" is a special song because it is written about Mike Portnoys late father, and about the best times they shared together. This alone makes it stand out as the best song on the album. Opening with a beautiful violin intro, it is followed by the whole band kicking in with a sound that just puts a smile on my face. The meaning behind the song is sad, but the song itself is trying to be as happy as possible. The chorus has both James and Mike singing together again, but this time there is nothing aggressive about it. The whole song has a really great sound, and the meaning behind the song just adds to it and makes it that much better. Anyone who has ever lost someone close to them would know what I am talking about.
"The Count of Tuscany" is the last and longest song on the album at a behemoth size of 19 minutes. It ranks among the other lengthy songs of DT, as it is truly a great song, too. The first 4 minutes is all without vocals, and the sty le (intentional mistake, GS doesn't allow the word as a whole for some reason) changes at least 5 times during that period. This makes it far more interesting as it doesn't get old. The whole band stands out on this album, as they all play their instruments perfectly. Mike does the growling again, but it really works this time, and he does it only twice in the chorus. 3/4 the way through, the whole band stops to let Jordan have his moment to shine. It's one of the best parts of the song, and reminds me of the beginning of Octavarium. It's one of the best songs on the album, but it has a few odd lyrics sometimes that are a bit distracting.
Overall, this album was a real step up from Systematic Chaos. Apart from one song (Wither) the whole album is excellent. Along with the 8 cover songs they recorded for the album (which I shall not review) it is one of their best releases yet.
Rating: 10/10
DT Rating: 9/10
Other Stuff
I have only three days left of the summer left, which is a good thing and a bad thing. Good thing because I'm getting really bored, bad because I will miss lying in most of the day. Let's hope tech is great.
I have also watched some more movies, along with The Final Destination which I seen in the cinema. All I can say is: Please, do not see this movie.
Don't.

Welcome for the second last time to my DT blogs, as always the non DT stuff is below the review.

Opening straight away with an cool sounding riff "In The Presence of Enemies: Pt 1". Straight away I was interested, since the album didn't have a slow start. While possibly the longest intro to an album ever (intro as in the song without vocals) clocking at an impressive 5 minutes. With blazing solos from Petrucci and groovy drum beats from Portnoy, this song has grabbed my attention and has me hooked already. When the song finishes I was left quite excited to hear the rest of the album, since it was such a good intro. "Forsaken" follows the previous song up, but it doesn't quite have that "wow" factor that it did. Reminding me of the first couple of tracks from Octavarium, it has a very mainstream sound and feels like it was just put in there so it could be a single (and it turned out to be one). It is still an okay song with some really cool riffs. "Constant Motion" is a special song to me, because it is actually the first Dream Theater song I've ever heard. The good thing about it is that it hasn't got worse over the years. It is a great song with a really groovy sound to it. Mike and James share lyrics line after line just like they did on the song The Glass Prison this makes both sound quite similar on the verses. I think the sharing vocals thing should be used alot more since it works very well on this song. Could easily be one of my favourites from the album.
"The Dark Eternal Night" keeps the great sound going with some really great drum beats. This song also uses the double singer technique again, but Mike and James both have a vocal effect on their voice and it works surprisingly well. James goes back to normal for the most part, and they share some lyrics like in the previous song. It all sounds really good, and actually makes the song sounds alot better. Following one of the albums strongest songs with the weakest song on the album is a bad move. "Repentance" is the song I will always use as an example of an over long song. Every DT song I've heard always switches everything up now and again to keep things interesting, but this song just keeps the same tune for the most part. It's actually pretty good up until the 6th minute where it just gets really boring. The worst thing is that it isthe fourth part in the 12 Step Suite by Mike Portnoy. If the last 4 minutes were cut out, it would have been a great song. "Prophets of War" is a better song, but only by so much. Good song, but just not as strong as some of the others on the album. Nothing on this song stands out that much except James singing some really nice sounding parts.
"The Ministry of Lost Souls" is the second longest song on the album raging at a massive 15 minutes. It has a really epic sound, mostly coming from Jordan Rudess keyboards. With a great sounding chorus, and progressively getting heavier throughout the song. It's a good change to hear something this good near the end of the album. "In The Presence of Enemies: Pt 2" concludes this album with a great bang. Just like the first part that opened the album with one. It is the longest song on the album clocking at 16 minutes. Sharing some riffs and solos from the first part (they were supposed to be one song, but they split it up) it really is one of the best songs on the album. It has some of the best solos and riffs on the whole album, and James is singing top notch on this part.
The album has some strong points, but the bad points really bring it down. Some songs could have been mashed together and improved (Forsaken, Prophets of War) and some could have been removed altogether (Repentance). It's a good album, but could have been better.
Rating: 7/10
DT Rating: 6/10
Other Stuff
I have installed The Witcher again, and I am really into it right now (more than I ever was before) I recommend playing it. I have also been watching alot more films some include Hot Rod (great), My Bloody Valentine (eugh) and I Love You, Man (good). I plan on watching alot more soon!

Welcome again to these blogs, as usual the non DT stuff is below the review.

Opening with the lone piano note from the previous album "The Root Of All Evil" begins. This is the third part in the 12 Step Suite by Mike Portnoy. Opening with a drum beat from the previous song but changing completely, this song kicks off. This song shares a few more riffs with the previous songs, and gives it a very cool feel. With some really awesome effects on James' voice, and the guitar work it gives the song a great sound. This song feels really light when compared to the previous album, and is a good change. Strong start to what sounds like a good album. "The Answer Lies Within" beings with a light piano, and James begins singing very softly. This is the usual soft/ballad song that DT has in every album, and is one of their best. This song stands out to be for having great lyrics that really match the sound of the song perfectly. Opening with a very futuristic sound "These Walls" begins strongly. Even though it sounds like a good album, it sounds quite mainstream when compared to DTs other work. It isn't a bad thing, it just makes the song structure and sound quite simpler.
The very mainstream sound continues with "I Walk Beside You" which is one of DTs shortest songs at only 4 minutes. It is maybe the most linear song on this album, as it is very traditional stuff. It has a good chorus and James sings pretty good on it, but that's the only thing that stands out. One of my least favourites from the album. "Panic Attack" begins with a pretty cool bass riff, then goes into the heaviest sounding into I've heard on the album. This gave me hope that the album would become less mainstream from here on, and surprisingly it does. James also sounds alot like Matt Bellamy from Muse on this song and the following songs. James said himself that he took alot of inspiration from him on this album. This song brings back the sound of the old DT, and it's a great contrast than the first half of the album. "Never Enough" is one of the best songs on the album, and oddly enough is the first of the three best songs on the album. Without these songs, this album would be extremely disappointing. It's great song throughout, and contains a great chorus.
"Sacrificed Sons" is the second longest song on the album, only topped by the song straight after it. Straight away, the song is great. Starting with a very slow drum beat, and an odd keyboard sound, it has a very weird and great sound. It has a real feeling of dread and suffering, which is what it is about (the 9/11 attacks) and it adds to the song and makes it far better. Great song. "Octavarium" is the longest track on the album, and also one of DTs longest. It is 24 minutes long, and it is one of their best songs of all time. Opening up with a great piece by Jordan Rudess (Keyboards) that lasts a full 4 minutes, and is one of their best openings for a song I've heard yet. When the full bands kicks in, I can really sense this kind of "epic" feeling. This song really shows how great every member of Dream Theater comes together as a band, and produces excellent music. This song contains some of my favourites parts of any song I've ever heard, and I can easily recommend it to anyone who likes music as a whole.
Overall, this album would have been not as good as any of their others if it hadn't have been for the last three songs (specifically Octavarium). It had a very mainstream sound at the beginning, but ended with the DT we all know and love.
(also, I would have said more about the song Octavarium, but I didn't want another whole paragraph that longer than the paragraphs before it, like I did with the last review)
Rating: 8/10
DT Rating: 7/10
Other Stuff
Last night I went to a family party (not my family, but I was invited anyway) which was really fun. There was alot of food, but I ate mainly burgers and a band played which was pretty cool. We were going to sleep over, but I got really tired around 11 PM, so I got a lift home.
Also, I am starting tech full time next week (I get a week off school, Woo!) And I will hopefully be there for the next 3 years. Crazy stuff.
Thanks for reading!
