So who else has seen the movie already? I've seen it now twice actually, once with my family and once with my friend. It's quite the epic movie, with amazing screens of the expanses of middle-earth, epic special effects, battles and other moments, and a gripping story. The only minor gripe I had with it was that it seemed a bit more children friendly than "The Lord of the Rings" movies, and the huge cliffhanger.

I couldn't tell you right now if it's up there with the "Lord of the Rings" Trilogy or not (or at least the first and maybe the second part), after my first watch I probably would have told you it isn't as good, but since I enjoyed the movie a little more the second time I watched it (I realized the awesomeness of the bad orc king Azog during my second time through) I couldn't tell you anymore, but anyhow, I'm really excited for the second and the third part. Too bad the second part is not out until the end of next year, the 13th December to be accurate.

I have seen TLOTR Trilogy and like it very much.  I plan on waiting for the DISH premiere for this one.

Not into LotR, but I plan to rent it just to see what's so great about it.

I have watched it and I enjoyed. Stepping back into the amazing world that the LOTR films created is fantastic. I am less enthused by the fact that there are three films and it whiffs of a rip-off to me. I will still watch them though, mug!

Don't think I'll be watching this one, but glad you liked it though

Dude, I loved the Hobbit!  Some of the reviewers said that it was too long and boring but I didn't think so.  There was plenty of action and great dialog.  I can't wait for the next two movies!

I don't remember much about the book as I haven't read it in a while, but I loved the movie.

In fact, I think that not remembering much about the book actually made me like it even more, because I had nothing to compare it to, and I went in unaware of what was going to happen (even if I did recall the general outline of the story).

I liked it despite not being as "epic" as Lord of the Rings which we can't expect however I think Peter Jackson is pushing it trying to make it 3 parts.  Just my opinion.

The Hobbit was, in fact, written for Tolkien's children...so your observation isn't far from the truth. ^_^

@-Saigo- True, my friend told me the same thing, but I can't help but feel that it hurt a few parts of the movie. A few parts simply weren't taken as seriously as they maybe should have been (the part with the Trolls for example).
