    Passion

I got an email today from another user who suggested that I have no right to review or play a "God of War" game and should rot in hell.

Of course, as you can likely imagine, the grammer used was more of the "u rot in hell" variety than anything resembling a coherent sentence.

Now, it should be noted, that I don't especially care what this user or any other thinks of me or my reviews. I gave GOW a 7.5 but traded it in very quickly because I found it boring. That is, last time I checked, my right. Clearly others love the series (good for you) and others hate the series (good for you).

My point in this mini-blog post is that I'd recommend if you find yourself telling another Gamespot member to rot in hell because they gave a videogame that you like a rating other than the one you did, that maybe it's time to step away from the computer.

I happen to be a 36 year old with far more important things to do than worry about an illiterate calling me names. I might, however, have been a 13 year old with poor self esteem who might be hurt by some stranger telling me to rot in hell.

Here's the thing, if you wouldn't say it to my face (and trust me, you wouldn't say this to my face) then don't say it at all.

    Perfect 10

When I look at buying a new game, I come to Gamespot and read the official review then head over to the user reviews.

The first thing I do is ignore any review rating a game as 10/10.

    Gamespots's all time 10/10's

PC, Wii, PSP, DS - None

PS3 - Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto 4

    PS2 - Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3

    XBOX360 - Grand Theft Auto 4

Think about that. For 7 systems, Gamespot has reviewed thousands of games and all of 4 have received a 10/10 (and that's counting GTA4 twice)

Now, pick pretty much any game rated 8/10 or better by Gamespot and the user reviews are littered with 10/10's.

Here's the thing. Perfect should be a level reserved for the greatest of the great. Games that are transendant in their awesomness and, frankly, I can't trust the opinion of somebody who thinks that Hot Shots golf is a perfect game.

So, keep posting your 10/10's and I'll keep ignoring them. The only reviews worth reading are the 6/10-9/10's....those are the people who generally point out the flaws that will either bother me or won't and give me the kind of insight that actually tell me what the game is really like.

10/10 is just another way of saying either fanboy, shill or way to easy to please.
