Why Normal People Get The Shaft

Okay, I get why some of you may be excited about the surge of announcements from EA. You have no lives (I'm kidding, please don't shoot me.) No, really what I'm saying is that if you have the schedule a normal person has, there is simply no time for playing all of these games, let alone money to buy them. Add to that the investment of time placed into games like World of Warcraft or Lord of the Rings Online, and it seems like a job is just a nuisance that takes away precious gaming time. Its hard to argue that games are a waste of time, especially when you're doing it on GAMEspot (*cough* banned *cough*), but its times like this when priorities come into play. And for the 3 doucheholes who are going to say, "If you can't control yourself you need help", its not that I have no self-control, its that I regret MISSING these games because of normal, day-to-day responsibilities. Since I am not going to stop showering or going to school anytime soon, its up to the developers and publishers to take this into account. What am I saying? This is EA. They eat your children just for the fun of it. They won't stop screwing the consumer anytime soon. I mean, look at Madden 08. But looking at it, there are a few pros to the cons of spaced-apart releases. How many of you have made a compromise because you couldn't afford 120$ for two games at once? I'm sure more than a couple of you just raised your hands. Holiday seasons, I get. Its totally understandable that the Christmas rush is not negotiable. But March? August? September? Those months are neglected and turned into the "Barren Wasteland", where games like Hello Kitty: Island Adventure get released. They are ripe for the picking, and there's enough space for many big name games to be released in a reasonable amount of time. Now, gamers still in school. We used to be the majority, but as the gaming generation grew up, they didn't leave their pasttime behind. So publishers use them as a template for pricing, release time, and other things. Basicall, games' affordability and availability is dependant upon the adults now, not the kids or teenagers. So unless you just so happen to get an allowance of $60 a week or are working at Microsoft, you aren't exactly able to dish out the price for next-generation games as often. Its sad, but it seems like the things we love so much are slipping out of our reach. And its all because "the man" finally decided to cash in on our enjoyment. I, for one, am not remotely ready to give up gaming, but what happens when the consoles go back into the $1000 range, or the games up to $80? It, might not be of our own choice, but we might just have to leave it behind.
