Eighth Generation: A Generation of New Technology
This is a question every gamer has asked themselves, as they boot up their Wii, Xbox 360, or PS3.
'What's the next console going to be like?'
Well, I feel that this generation was the time that gaming has proved a point. It has become mainstream. 5 years ago, how many old age pensioners would you have expected to play, or even have understood how to play games? Yet my grandfather of 83 years regularly plays Wii Tennis and Mario-Kart. How many advertisements for games (not consoles) would you have seen at prime time? Yet I saw a Prince of Persia advertisement at 7.15 just last night, on a major channel.
People are accepting gaming as a whole. It is coming into the mainstream, and is now a major form of entertainment, not just for spotty teenagers.
Also proved this generation is that for the majority of people, pure power isn't enough. Power doesn't necessarily mean fun. The Wii had the fun factor, which is why the Xbox 360 and PS3 have lost out, with just an update and a serious lacking of ideas when it comes to hardware.
With the new generation, I believe Sony and Microsoft are going to take this to heart. Prepare for completely new ways to play.
Supporting my suspicion is the recent patents Sony have filed, with that new controller that you can pull apart ande put back together in different forms, and move the buttons about, and another with some sort of touch thing i am not going to pretend i understand.
So i think you should prepare for a 'Wii-esque' PS4 and Xbox 720.
