Live for Nothing, or Die for Something

Joined the army 8-6-64. Accepted special forces, specialization: light weapon, medic, helicopter and language qualified. 59 confirmed kills. Two Silver Stars, four Bronze, four Purple Hearts. Distinguished Service Cross and Medal of Honor.

    His name: John Rambo

Anyone who has ever taken an interest in action movies have undoubtedly seen or heard of the Rambo franchise. With four movies spanning three decades, Sylvester Stallone has ensured that his character of Rambo will forever be remembered as one of the greatest action heroes of all time. A puzzling question has risen for me, however. With the popularity of this character, why is there nearly no video game adaptions to bring this muscle-filled killing machine to the hands of gamers? Sure there are the old Super Nintendo and Sega Mega Drive titles made for the respected Rambo movies that came out over 20 years ago, but since that time, no video game developer has opted to extend the scope of Rambo's explosive opportunities in the field of video games.

Rambo for Super Nintendo Rambo III for Sega Mega Drive

Not to bash Super Nintendo and Sega Mega Drive, but these consoles are becoming rather ancient. It's a safe bet that a large chunk of current-day gamers haven't even heard of one or either of these consoles. With the continuation of repeated franchises like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo, Gears of War, etc., etc., etc.,I simply don't understand why new and fresh ideas for the genre of action shooters are not being looked into. In my opinion, Rambo is the perfect character to create a video game based off of with today's astounding technology.

"To survive a war, you must become war."

In 2005, about the time when cell phone games began to increase in popularity, a company name In-Fusio created a mobile game called "Rambo on Fire." This title plays likemany other cell phone action games, in which you control the main character from a bird's eye view, as he runs and guns throughout each level. With the huge scores of portable games being released, this title flew well under the radar and has most likely never been heard of by most people. Following this release, In-fusio released another mobile Rambo game with the title "Rambo Forever" in 2008. This game shifted from the overhead view and plays with a third-person arcade shooter format. Once again, In-fusio's second Rambo title achieved literally no publicity as well.

Rambo on Fire Rambo Forever Rambo on Fire (Gameplay) Rambo Forever (Gameplay) Rambo Forever (Gameplay) Rambo Forever (Gameplay)

Now, in my opinion, two virtually unheard of Rambo video game titles for the 21st century of gaming is simply an outrage. This is one of the action genre of movie's greatest icons! Every gamer has, at one point, enjoyed feeling a sense of pure adrenaline filled action as they blast away enemies with explosions and striking visual effects. Well, a full-powered Rambo game would offer moments like this almost non-stop.

"They drew first blood, not me... They drew first blood."

Ideas for this video game have always bounced in and out of my head. Perhaps a storyline that covers all four of the Rambo movies, or maybe a brand new story altogether for the character of Rambo. Locations that have occured in the movies include wartorn Vietnam, the wildernesses of the Pacific Northwest United States, the deserts of Afghanistan, and the unstable country of Burma. These places could all serve as excellent "Acts" in acompilation of places tobattle through. Another idea of mine has been that your character of John Rambo could have certain perks and abilities to level up during the course of the game. Rambo being an expert marksman, pilot, and survivalist could all be learned and earned attributes in the actual game. The one sure thing is that if it's a Rambo video game, it's going to be full of explosions, gunfire, and muscle.

"When you're pushed, killing's as easy as breathing."

I really do hope that Rambo receives his overly deserved transition to the world of current-day video games soon. With the endless possibilities related to this character, a truly epic game could be created and enjoyed by gamers everywhere.

    Gears of War Movie Impressions

As a big fan of Gears of War, I have really been getting excited about all the recent news being released about Gears of War 3 at both E3 and Comic Con. So, as a result, I began to look around game forums to see what other gamers thought about Gears of War. It turns out that many other gamers are also excited for both Gears of War 3 and the upcoming Gears of War movie, which will hopefully be started very soon. A lot of gamers, as well as game websites, have submitted their ideas and opinions as to who they believe should be casted to play the major Gears of War character in the movie. However, as a whole, I simply did -not- agree with the majority of everyone's ideas; therefore, I decided to cast my own ideas as to who should be considered to play the four main COGs.

My Gears of War movie cast selection

    The Cast:

    Mariusz Pudzianowski as Marcus Fenix

    Ahmad Haidar as Dominic Santiago

    Gunter Schlierkamp as Damon Baird

    Ronnie Coleman as Augustus Cole

As you'll no doubt notice, all of my selections were professional bodybuilders. Thus, you may argue that bodybuilders never make very good actors; however, would -any- of today's actors be able to take on the role of any of the bulked out COG's? I think not! To truly capture the real Gears of War feeling, I believe that true-to-size actors should take up the role of Marcus, Dom, Baird, and Cole. But unfortunately, the roles of these awesomely stacked COG's will most likely go to weak actors who most likely can't even bench press 185 pounds. I've made my decision, now let's hope some of the people in charge decide to make the Gears of War movie with the appropriate actors. And also, please let me know what you think of my selections!

Predator -- The First > The Rest.

Tonight I went to see the newly released summer action flick, "Predators," starring Adrien Brody as the new protagonist pitted against the ancient hardcore hunter aliens. As a huge fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger, I absolutely love the original 1987 movie that starred the Austrian Oak as the hero in the first movie, which introduced the Predator to today's horror and action pulp culture; however, after seeing this newly released sub-sequent film in the series, I left the theater.. disappointed.

What happened to all the action stars!? The 80's and early 90's will forever be the era of awesome action films because of all the actors who glorified the screen with their presence. Sylvester Stallone as Rocky and Rambo; Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan and the Terminator, Jean Claude van Damme's martial arts movies, Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis, etc. etc. etc. --- To be quite honest, the action legends of the past simply blow any of today's "action actors" out of the water.

Adrien Brody taking on a Predator, I mean seriously.. How am I supposed to accept that 150 pound Adrien Brody, the Pianist, can defeat a Predator just as easy as the 7 time Mr. Olympia champion and cybernetic terminator, Arnold? It's silly really. Adrien Brody is a pathetic twig in comparison.

How I miss the old days of action movies. On that note, I'm extremely excited to see "The Expendables," coming out in August that will for the first, and only time, star both Stallone and Schwarzenegger in a final farewell film of the greatest action legends.. Sorry Adrien Brody, you simply will never make that status.
