    Free Roaming

I have to say, all these new games with free roaming capabilities has me excited. I love plugging in and exploring a world for hours on end. It's exciting. It's like going on vacation except you you get shot at.

The only thing that could harm the current onslaught of this style of game would be the lack of things to do within that world. Although this hasn't been much of a problem there have been a few that feel fairly empty given the large playing area. Most notably is True Crime: Streets of L.A. At the time of it's release it had the largest possible playing area (240 square miles). It was great to roam L.A. and shoot at criminals and pedestrians alike. Being an Angeleno myself I have to say the map was pretty accurate. The only problem (besides some clunky game play) was that after a half hour or so of driving you suddenly realize there's just nothing to do.

All in all I'm fairly satisfied with the state of the free roam game. The guys and girls putting these games out are doing a fantastic job. The most recent success is Saints Row.

To all the developers out there: keep 'em filled with stuff to do and keep 'em coming.
