All About ethanlbell

My blog will most likely be related to things I find ridiculous in the gaming industry, but could also be news or developments in the computer gaming industry. I deeply apologize if I ever post something inaccurate, and I try to get good info when it comes to computer gaming news or gaming industry news. However, my opinions are my opinions, and I would appreciate it if when you disagree, to also post info about why you disagree, in essence don't just post a comment calling me an idiot, tell me why first.

    You think they would learn...

After a finite time of waiting, its finally out, the game of the centruey, the game to drive all other games into dust. SPORE! SPORE! YYYAAAYYY!!! I just bought the game.... and could not wait, until i found out a couple of things about EA's copyright protection. First of it requuires something i Have already chewed microsoft out over, activation. WHAT?! A VIDEO GAME!? Okay, I could take those shenanigans with Halo 2, (though it still drove me mad) becuase it was a microsoft game, but EA?!? Come on man, that sucks, all of my games are pretty much from them, and they try to pull this crap?! I mean look at this way, computer games must acount for an incredibly small portion of thier money making scheme, yet do you see Xbox360 games that limit you to only playing the game on 3 different xbox's? NO! Do you see it on a ps3 game? NO! Why must they persecute PC gamers, yes it is easier to burn them but, please, we are also the highest paying gaming market, and yet were always the one who got ripped off.

Microsoft, Intel, And Nvidia, The Biggest Morons In The Computer Industry

Computers are always state of the art, they are always evolving, they always replace the top of the line, with that in mind, why is the computer the fourth gaming console, when its abilities far outstrip its console brethren? Three words, Intel, Nvidia and Microsoft. I shall start with Microsoft, becuase although I blame Nvidia and Intel, Microsoft is the biggest problem. When you buy a computer, you constantly have to worry about performance of your hardware, annoying but not that big of a problem. Then comes Vista and its retarded cousins, directx10, and games for windows. With XP, compatibility was usually not a problem, nor were driver issues, Vista On the other hand is on the complete other side, the botched launch was enough to discourage buying vista computers, but coupled with driver problems even the most basic user would be annoyed by, drove off a large portion of the common PC buyer. Although that was a bad a large number of loyal PC buyers would Buy the new vista computers anyway, right? wrong, becuase then comes Directx10 and the BS surrounding sound-cards and games. Not only did microsoft remove a major component of high end gaming, (3d sound) they also lacked driver support (or at the very least crappy support) for high end graphics. Compound that with Vista having huge problems with games, and you manage to dissuade even the die-hard computer fanatics from buying vista computers And thereby (thanks to companies like dell and Hp who seem to love kissing microsofts huge ass,) means almost all new computers.

As i said, microsoft is only part of the problem (albeit a giant one,) the blame is also starting to fall on the so called computer technology innovators, Intel and Nvidia. Ever since Intel won most of the market when AMD spluttered at the duel-core mark, and Nvida won the graphics industry due to ATI's apparent inability to pursue high end gaming, Innovations have been far apart and very few. The problem being that although Intel and Nvidia are always good at making high-end products, the real innovations came from AMD and ATI. Just look at the proccessor, before The athlon 64 came out, Intel had increase power consumption on the proc for a ten percent increase in speed. Then came AMD, revolutionizing the market with the athlon 64. Now that intel is back in control, were seeing the same damn problem that happened back then, yes they can make duel, quad, and soon octo core porcessors, but theres no real innovation in the design, it is like smashing severeal procs on one chip, instead tie ing them all in to work together efficiently with good power consumption, even now that is still being done by ATI. Even though there duel core might not been as fast as Intels, it was way more efficient in the way it was designed. By the Way did I mention the thousand dollar price tag for intels quad core thanks to lack o0f real competition from AMD?

Next Comes Nvidia, the same basic problem, though if anything way more noticeable. Nvidia seems to think it does not matter how efficiently it works, so long as it has enough muscle, leading to the fact that they have huge honking graphic cards with a gig of ram and a gigahertz processor that suck up enough power to buy a new PSU. ATI on the other hand was the first to implement a dual power single card design (to cards on a single board) Nvidia decides to try it out two, the only difference being, instead of the two cards being built together and working together efficiently, Nvidia decides a ribbon cable is all that is needed connect the two cards. No new circuit interface, just a ribbon cable connecting to separate video cards.

I could probably go on for another paragraph or two but I think I summed up what I consider to be the three main problems in the computer industry.
