Since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare I pretty much have gotten every CoD since, at least until now. It started because a close friend of mine played it and I decided to get it so we could team up and play it together. Even though I wasn't a fan of these types of games. Sure enough I enjoyed it, or at least enjoyed playing with my friend nearly every night.

So, when World at War came out I didn't even think twice about getting it. I didn't think much of it, I enjoyed the campaign, but the multiplayer felt sluggish so I returned to Modern Warfare.

Then when Modern Warfare 2 came out I thought "finally" hoping it would have a better multiplayer than the previous MW. Honestly I thought it was and I really liked the campaign this time around, probably my favourite campaign out of all the Call of Duty games I have played to date.

The the following year Black Ops came out I was pretty much was first in line to get it at the midnight launch and it was the first Call of Duty game I properly enjoyed playing the multiplayer of. To the point I played it without my friend to hold my hand.

At this point I was begging to get tired of the series, and with not much love for Modern Warfare, I reluctantly got the third one. While I enjoyed the campaign; favourable less then the others, it was about here that I realised I was bored with the series. It really felt like a shiny clone of the previous MW game and putting aside the limited edition version I forked out money for (and regretted doing so) I went back to playing Black Ops. Over the course of the past year I even played that less and less until I didn't play it at all.

So as Black Ops 2 came closer to release I found myself not caring. To be honest all I really wanted to do was to run around the futuristic shiny world of Halo and kick some serious behind as Master Chief. Maybe have a few games of speed Halo with my friends. (This is the nickname we give to a custom games we play; it involves maxing out character movement, reducing gravity and only allowed swords to be used).

In short I've gotten bored of Call of Duty, for the past few years they've been forking out clone after clone of the same game with improved graphics. The only storyline I enjoyed was Modern Warfare 2 and the only multiplayer I actually liked was Black Ops, and that was really down to the maps layout or a certain map called Nuke Town.

Ill prefice this saying im playing COD on PC i dont know anything about console iterations .Im almost positive most of you people hating on this game haven't even played it. It easily the best cod since cod 4 if not better. They finally got things right. I half heartily bought this game after i swore to myself that i wouldn't  cause i too like most people was getting tired of the series. I am very happy i did end up getting it. I . Anyone complaing about single player is obviosuly a troll and shouldnt be taken seriously every1 knows COD single player is just filler we play COD for multiplayer. They finally got it right and all anyone does is complain. Hitboxes are nice and small and aiming is actually a factor now. Guns have some recoil now. The knife is finally done right you dont lunge a stupid amount. You aren't constantly being bombarded with death from above. You have more versatility in your load-outs then ever. People complaing about camping are just noobs. THe maps are acutally quite small and fast paced.

I think the people that are so hell bent on getting on the net and saying how bad cod is are people that are sick of looking at there terrible KDR year after year and have just given up on the game and decide just to bash how they come out with similar game each year. FIFA has a new game every year and all it gets is a roster change and for the most part no one complains and it still gets 9's everywhere(not that i disagree with it). But cod every1 and there dog has to complain about it likes its the cool thing to do. Don't get me wrong cod has had some pretty bad games MW2 especially but when a good one comes out every1 just get straight to bashing it without giving it a chance.

I got Black Ops II, but I wish I hadn't. At first, I wasn't sure why the multiplayer was so awful. Now I know:Lag compensation. I usually have a good connection, and lag compensation punishes me for it. It doesn't help that the maps are littered with camping spots.

yea but the truth is black ops 2 is a ripoff i got it for zombies to find out i get only one zombie dlc

atleast on mw3 when i wanted to play survival it had more maps and the best part when juggernaut start to chase u and u beat the * out of them

plus multiplayer mw3 suck so did black op2

mw1 had the only good multi and blackop 1 but now i got bored of them

@OB_Shah I'm not passing judgement on it, I'm just not interested in playing it. You know that feeling you get when you can't wait for a game to come out so you can play it? For this game there was just nothing, I just completely forgot about it.

Ok i get it but every sequel is a copy of there predecessor be it Halo or Left 4 dead the only game that changed alot was Resistance 3 (PS3) completely different from the Resistance 2 and lots of people didnt like that change. lol infaced lots of people dont like changes some people want a exact copy of the same game really they do LOL (Not pointing finger at anyone talking in general)

I personally enjoyed Black Ops 2, I mean I enjoyed the story and multiplayer, but the only reason Black Ops is different than other versions of call of duty is because it's made by treyarch instead of infinity ward. i dislike all infinity ward games because they flooded the market with COD and now its viewed as a bad game because there is a new one every year. treyarch feels like they take more time or atleast a bit more care when they take the reigns on call of duty, but the reason i bought black ops 2 this year instead of staying ritually with my battlefield games is because battlefield 4 is coming out next year and i dont want to have to buy a games sequel every year (which is why i avoid modern warfare)

The exact reason I stopped playing COD seemed to be why you started liking them. They started catering to console and the ADD crowd by making maps the site of postage stamps and removing any tactical considerations from maps. It seems if a map isn't set up so that if it takes more than 5-10 seconds before you see an enemy it isn't allowed in the game.Though to be fair to BLOPs 2, it did add more robust custom game options, not anything that approaches Halo's really extensive options, but more than previous entries, and it has Nuketown 2025...which is just nuketown so good news! You can still spawn take 2 steps and see someone!

Ovirew
Ovirew

Your feelings echo mine.  I think COD is one of the biggest offenders when it comes to rehashing pretty much the same game every single year.  But what surprises me even more is how popular each new COD game is every single year.

I agree that Halo is a more interesting FPS series, and I am still quite a Halo fan, though I decided not to get Halo 4 and I'm not sure when or if I'll ever play a Halo game again.  I got into the series relatively late, (technically Halo 3 was my first Halo game, though I may have downloaded Halo CE first.  3 was the one I started getting into first I think.) but began to like the games as I understood the story and game play better.

When Halo 3 ODST came out, I think that was my favorite Halo from a game play perspective.  Even though the game was fairly easy, firefight was a blast to play and everything seemed to have good continuity within the game.  It is also the only Halo game I managed to get all of the achievements for.

I had sold my 360 in mid-2010 after growing to dislike most of the people I played with on multiplayer, but it was the allure of Halo Reach that convinced me to pick back up where I left off with the series.  I mostly enjoyed Halo Reach, even though the continuity was screwy and lots of other people seemed dissatisfied with it.  I think the unique way that all of your NPC Noble Team members behaved helped to make for a refreshing campaign experience.

Last year, I gave Halo CE Anniversary a shot.  I had never completed the original CE on Legendary, just Normal, so when I tried to play through that on Legendary from the start it was painstakingly difficult.  The game was decent, but I guess I was really looking forward to a new Halo game, since I'd already played CE.

When I first heard about Halo 4 I was excited about it.  But then I realized that I already owned 3, ODST, Reach, CE and Anniversary - and Wars, if you want to count that.  And while all of the games were good, the games are pretty much the same, just with minor incremental changes between them.  And once a new Halo game comes out, everyone pretty much abandons the previous ones for the new ones, making it impossible to get several achievements.

Pretty much for the same reasons why you lost interest in COD, I lost interest in getting new Halo games.  While the games have good stories and fun game play, I can't help but think that there could be much more to Halo than the developers want to give us, yet as far as game play goes H4 is basically H1 all over again.

It's not that I'm a snob, but most of these AAA titles don't interest me. I don't care about COD, Assassin's Creed, Halo, Battlefield, and so on. When people talked about this holiday season being packed full of great games, I had to wonder what games they meant. All I see are the same games we got last year and the year before that. When every game that comes out has a sequel number after it, there's something wrong. Don't mistake my intent. I'm not saying anything about those who play these games. It's just that games have lost any sense of innovation. Maybe I just like mediocre games or something, but I had more fun with Saboteur, Alpha Protocol, Singularity, Just Cause and others way more than I have had with any of these yearly release titles.

@jmic75  @Oldgun People have no idea of the level of insanity you have to posses to not like Call of Duty. It's an all around decent game, you shouldn't expect it to be perfect. Most games are actually really bad compared to COD.Most people who don't like COD games are extremely bad at them.

Oldgun

@PyroCoreLeader  @jmic75 Well that's a strange analogy...We're in a time that information and experience can help us judge what is good and what's not. I have played FPS but not COD. I have seen COD evolve in past decade and I never said it's bad game. It's just that market is so much saturated that every single FPS out there feels and looks the same. I just don't like it anymore. And that's my personal opinion. If you guys like COD, Good for you !!!

I stopped when the Infinity Ward scandal came to light. I've been boycotting Activision games...and I don't believe that Treyarch is half the company that Infinity Ward was. Infinity Ward MADE the Call of Duty we know today with COD4. They revolutionized shooters with it...and ever since Activision, true to its name, has milked that formula for every cent it's worth. This is why I don't play Black Ops...because it's not Infinity Ward.

PyroCoreLeader
PyroCoreLeader like.author.displayName 1 Like

@d_kell411 This is actually a very valid argument.I agree that Infinity Ward did revolutionize multiplayer. But the Infinity Ward style of multiplayer is getting stale. The modern warfare series is very repetitive.Although Treyarch and Activision are trying to perfect there versions, there working really hard so give them a chance

My favorite COD SP mode is Finest Hour for playing different characters & their stories. As for online MP, three of my favorites are COD 2, Black Ops & COD 4. Call Of Duty is nothing more than Madden of FPS, they'll never change. I got burned out of the series around the end of MW2 & middle of first Black Ops. As for Halo 4, I'm not worry about SP for it'll be amazing. I've no clue on what to think about spartan ops & online MP looks more like COD in space. I did play Black Ops 2 (rented the game at Redbox) & there are some changes (but not overhaul).

Couldn't agree with you more, although I stopped playing the series after WAW. I don't think it's just one thing that put me off, the same engine/AI didn't help and the multiplayer is solid but lacking something...I copped it from my XBOX live chums...why aren't you getting BO2? I bought Halo4 instead and yes it's the same game but somehow it feels fresher, the mechanics are solid and the story is superb...I'll rent BO2 and scream and yell at the campaign, then smile and take it back to the shop!!

I actually think Black Ops 2 is much better than Modern Warfare because now you have multiple ways to finish a mission and in the end will affect the endings that you got. The strike force mode is also interesting because you'll get multiple things that you can control. Even though these are all good ideas that will definitely boost the game's re playability, once you get to the gameplay..... ITS THE SAME GUNPLAY AS BLACK OPS!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLOiNV4ewQc&feature=relmfu

Well what do you expect, you can't change the gameplay mechanics to feel different, which kinds of makes it awkward to play. Great contents though. There's like 5 different endings, which is MORE reason to play singleplayer than what the usual Call of Duty games did, so it's an admirable effort.

Kaz32
Kaz32 like.author.displayName 1 Like

On second though, there is a way to make the gunplay feel different: use the gameplay mechanics from Quantum of Solace.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdZN2y3lgPA

That game is so much fun precisely because of how solid and non-clunky the gameplay mechanic is. You can use cover, do stealth naturally and when you're meleeing someone it's not just a knife attack but a combo. WHY DIDN'T THIS GAMEPLAY MECHANIC BE USED MORE ON OTHER ACTIVISION GAMES??? It's such a missed opportunity seeing how that is one of the movie-licensed games that's actually very good.

I find that Activision tends to do this to a lot of really great series. The same thing happened with the Tony Hawk games, I used to love playing those as a kid! Then Tony Hawk's Underground came out, which I still liked. Then Tony Hawk's Under Ground 2, which was okay, then American Wasteland, then Project 8, then Downhill Jam, then Proving Ground, then Motion, then Ride, then Shred. Every single one of these was significantly worse than the other.

The same thing's going to happen with Call of Duty. They won't stop making these games when people stop buying them. They'll come out with one more sequel, then two more, then another, etc., until eventually it will fade into obscurity like Tony Hawk or Guitar Hero. Just as you milk a cow dry until it has nothing left to give.

Kendojin
Kendojin

@Duke_51 Yeah that's pretty much what Activision, they find a hit game, turn it into a yearly franchise until it's dead. The question is how long until CoD ends up like Tony Hawk or Guitar Hero. They were burning the candle at both ends here with CoD using two studios and they added a third now with Sledgehammer, so we'll just have to sit back and see what happens.

02050muh
02050muh

@Kendojin  @Duke_51 for business standpoint, that is probably a smart move, but for us gamers and developers, that would be the end of innovation and creativity.

Kendojin
Kendojin

@02050muh  @Duke_51  True true, but all they see is dollar signs. They could care less about innovation and creativity, they just see the annual release model as a way of getting money quick.

I never played CoD much except for the very first.  BLOPs 2 was the first CoD I've ever actually bought.  I've been really enjoying the 2025 campaign and zombies.  Was pretty happy with the game, so I decided to buy the deluxe and get World at War and the zombies Nuketown map.  Pretty happy with my purchase.  I guess that's due to staying away from all the other CoD games.

@NiteX I agree, from my point of view the problem of this boredom of the Call of Duty series is because people have been following the series for too long and gamers are starting to get tired of it. I think we need a bigger brake between new CoD games, like 2 or 3 years so players can rest from one game and then develop an interest to another. The problem is that they are greedy and just keep developing and releasing game after game after game, of course they will look the same, one day I bought and played one game, next week another one is in stores, much thing couldn't have evolved in that short period of time...

Year after year people buy the CoD series because of  the success of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.  A 5 year old game.

ALLoY1717

That is so true.

Loved CoD4 but since then I can't really get into the series in a big way anymore. Never bought a Treyarch CoD game, because I preferred IWs but IW is pretty much gone now so I doubt I will be getting back into the series again.
