NFK= Rated "NFK" for Not for Fat Kids

Wii Tells 10 year old kid she's fat

I actually found this link through tv.com, randomly saw it at the top.

I can see both sides to the argument, but I think it's a little extreme to actually want to ban this games, or change the rating to 18+. That's ludacrious. I don't like it any better when I get to be reminded that according to the BMI system I am considered obese. Keep in mind, I get to be reminded of this everytime I running on a treadmill at my gym (since there is a BMI chart in front of my fav treadmill), or I'm entering my daily weight input on fitday. Good stuff.

Anyways - like I was saying I can see both sides to the argument. I think they should change the terminology to something a little more user friendly. Yes, I realize overweight/obese is probably the most user friendly ways to indicate someone is fat. But let's face it, we live in a world, where no one likes the honest given truth and everyone wants something that simulatenously reassures them and comforts them and helps them reach their goal in the easiet most cost effective and laziest way possible.

Though I'm not really sure how much "6 stone" is, everyone's ego is frail and society is cruel. All the reassurance in the world can be blown out of the water if someone cracks the wrong joke, or makes the wrong comment, or hell just flat out insults you. Especially in kiddie realm, cruelty is common & mercy is for the unpopular.

Of course, with all of that said as the parent how would you reassure your child? Especially if your child couldn't comprehend something as complicated as the BMI. To be honest, even at my age, it sounds like complete bs. I would also venture to bet that Nintendo did not include a "your child's ego my be destoryed" in any of the safety disclaimers that are included in the instruction manual. But then again, as a parent, would you make a point to read through the ENTIRE instruction booklet of a game such as Wii Fit? Probably not, b/c there shouldn't be anything that would merit a thorough dissection by a alert and watchful parent.

Hell, I think Nintendo would be better just putting a NFK on certain games just for insurance purposes. That way everyone would be happy and Nintendo could say "Welp, we warned fat kids not to use this game." Wouldn't they?
