Over 3 years later, what's changed?

So it's not like I don't visit gamespot a heap, it's just that I can't really be bothered updating the whole blog thing. But now it's annoying me and I'm bored so I'll put down a brief rundown of what's happened since. Read below the line if you don't care about my little life and see what I've been experiencing and thinking game-wise:

    - In 2006 I was in year 10 high school. Since then I've done my VCE (Victorian Certicficate of Education - like high school diploma for students in the state of Victoria, Australia, which is undertaken in years 11&12) My VCE subjects were mainly maths & sciences focused. I also did Latin.

    - I'm now in a band, Thieves In Law. We started in about 2007 and launched our EP in jan '08. We've since made about 10 originals, a few of which are on our MySpace, and also iTunes. (TBH our newer songs are better but the old ones are all we have recorded and uploaded) We're a kind of indie rock group and I myself play lead guitar

    - I've been fortunate enough to have had a steady gf for the past 2 and half years.

    - I went skiing in Canada for a second time; family trip. It was too awesome

    - I've now just finished my first semester of my first year at uni. Doing a double degree in science and engineering.

    - In melbourne you have to try pretty hard to get into any decent course at a decent University, and I ended up getting what's called an ENTER score of 99.0, which just slides me in as the top %1 of state. Wasn't quite enough to land a scholarship in my desired course, however, but what can you do. Call me a nerd all you like, i really don't give a crap.

    =================================

    - More importantly I also got a 360 at the start of 2008. Played through Assassin's Creed, Halo 3, Bioshock, both Gears of War, Ninja Gaiden 2, CoD Modern Warfare, Dead or Alive 4, Burnout Paradise, GTA4, and got Guitar Hero World Tour end of last year which is pretty win. All of them have been great, high calibre titles.

    - I thought this year's E3 was a great step up, and there's definitely a few games I'm looking forward to, like Assassin's Creed 2, Dark Void, Borderlands and WH40K: Space Marine. Games that weren't there that I'm even more excited for are Diablo 3 and HL: Episode 3. VALVe really know how to make guns feel good.

    - I also want to give Prototype a shot, and I plan to play through Mass Effect which I might borrow off a friend.

    - When/if my PC gets good enough, or i just get a new one, I want to get my hands on Crysis and Dawn of War 2.

Long story short is that I only have the time and inclination these days to buy and play through the biggest titles, because they usually are the only ones that are worth my time. I'm always looking forward to games that give new innovative twists to genres like the FPS and 3rd person action, which is why I've labelled Dark Void and Borderlands up above. I find it difficult to get into new RTS's due to the restrictions of my computer. I'd like to experience everything that comes out, including notable games like inFamous and MGS4 on the PS3, but I simply don't have the time when I have a job, a band, a gf and a demanding uni course to keep up with.

My favourite franchise is still Ninja Gaiden, despite a SLIGHTLY disappointing sequel (mainly because of a range of enemies which don't play to the game's combat strengths), because of the most fluid and dynamic action gameplay and choreography I've ever seen. I'll always be pining to see what's next in that franchise, and I hope the guys at Team Ninja will get the next one perfect.

Despite what seems to be arising as a prolonged console cycle (which I think the majority of the gaming community are thankful and appreciative of), it's good to still see the industry moving forward, with things like the new technology that has been shown off at E3, but more importantly with the new and exciting games that continue to excite and intrigue all us gamers.

In a year, or probably 2, maybe more, when talk of the NEXT generation systems starts to show up at E3 press conferences, things will get real exciting again like they do with the release of every new console. I can't imagine what this industry will look like in 20 or 30 years, it's too exciting to even think about, but I will hopefully always be able to watch it evolve and experience everything that's new, because things are most definitely going to get to a point where games are going to be so amazing that things you would see as science fiction today will become a reality.

I'll probably hit up another blog update in another 2 or 3 years, but until then, hope you all find the games that get your hearts pumping.

    peace

    For now...

man, I just got hooked up on the funniest site I've seen in years.

    www.askaninja.com

Seriously, I've been watching the question videos, and they're just so funny. The ninja himself is perfect for the sort of thing, and what he says is hilarious.

In other news, I've just learnt to play Tornado of Souls by Megadeth on my guitar, which I've already nearly perfected. Songs like this are good ways to demonstrate skill.

"Underappreciated" Why didn't this game get the 9.5 that the last game would have? Reviewers aren't able to exactly tell you, but I can. Continue »
