PC not so obvious advantage over consoles
Im a big PC user. Have been for 25 years, but i also like consoles. With the 360/PS3 its SUPER OBVIOUS that consoles are stepping on PC toes.
If you dont think so, imagine all the PC IP games once exclusive to PC but are now on consoles as well. And seems PC fanboys are ignoring that games like crysis, deus ex, witcher, fallout, COD, BF, and about 40 other titles all born on PC now found a satisfying home on consoles.
Their defense against it?... "The guys shadows for his nose is smoother on PC than those old consoles. Or i can run COD MW at 200fps".... To me thats just weak. Your super rig is running identically about 95% the same games as those 6 year old 512mb of RAM consoles.
Other than modding.... which is getting kind of rare with these new games, there is very little reason to say PC is obviously superior. Yes sharper edges, higher textures, and other graphical enhancements are sometimes really obvious in PC versions, but they come at a price of you upgrading, or dealing with bugs.
I think its overall a sad thing to see as a old school gamer. PC games are somewhat being diluted to fit console games philosophy of easy to use and pick up(though some console exclusive are amazing as well and easily best any PC game). And instead of PC gamers unifying and supporting indie games and PC exclusives that fit PC gaming. They continue to play Counter Strike or some dumb MMORPG, or brag about MW2 200fps.
Not to mention how the PC is being flooded by brainless games like Diablo, 10,000 MMORPGs, heroes of newerth, showing complete lack of innovation and evolution. I think its funny how some PC gamers are really firm in saying that the console is for kids or dumbed down gamers, when i see the dumbest gaming ever in my 25 years of gaming on PC mostly.
Overall the point is the obvious better more free range PC gaming experience, isnt what it used to be. -

Yes, PC gaming is dying.
PC gaming is dying!!!
I guess you hear that alot. And as a PC gamer for 20+ years i really agree.
Is it the cheap greedy pirates? No!!!!!
Its actually the narrow minded PC elitist.
You see i remember in the 90s PC gaming was a booming industry as well as the console was. But PC literally had about 70-100 games exclusively released every year. And they range to all sorts of types. And they were good games. That explains why GOG.com is still so popular. Good games dont need good graphics. Side note 2d was the best, the move to primitive 3d polygons and Full Motion Capture is pathetic compared to now in days, and did not age well.
I also owned genesis and SNES and PSX, and they had their place in the gaming community as well. Basically console and PCs were seperated.
In the 2000s PC gaming technology started to slow down. Which i think was semi good thing since back in the day you litterally were outdated every 6 months. But as the technology slowed down so did the advancement. I notice alot of publishers saw $$$$$ with the Xbox and PS2.
With the release of the 360 and PS3 later in the 2000s, thats when things went for the worst. At that time PC and consoles were pretty much equal. Or were able to run PC games at a good enough speed. Over the years the market or the variety of games on console was expanding at a tremendous rate. PC games that thought could only be on PC were now on consoles. And as major game developers started to design new games they did it on PS3/360/PC. Basically the exclusive market of PC games only has shrunk considerably.
And sad thing about PC exclusives is how they get ignored by PC gamers. Forcing some just to make console game or Apps. They rather play your typical Blizzard or EA game.
And alot of the PC gamers brag about how their COD at 200fps or and run it with slightly smoother shadows than a console. Big woop they are pretty much identical games. One just has more makeup. And what about those amazing sales? Yes the sales of WOW and StarCraft and COD say alot about the direction of PC gaming. Generic dumb MMOs and buy from 1 or 2 companies.
I guess the best way to express my view is to say America is dying econmicaly compared to China/India. Ya but America is still better. True... but when you got India/China expanding their economy 25% a year and US is like only 1%, and developers are seeking profits in foreign markets. How long does America have?
So i blame it on the wants of the PC customers. THey want mmos and will gladly take multiplatforms that only looks slightly better than their 5 year old console cousins.
My guess is once there is a console with descent RAM. Maybe 4gb. There will be a much much smaller gap between the PC dominance and consoles catching up.
