    NES eBay Lot

About two weeks ago I received the items I bought on eBay. Those items consisted of an NES model 2, light gun (orange), 2 controllers (original), and 14 games.

The only unfortunate thing about the games is that I already own 9 of them. I fell that it was worth the repeats just so I could get the model 2 NES at a decent price.

In addition I also bought Yakuza 2 and a second copy of the original NBA Jam for the SNES. I only did so after demoing it and seeing that it included Charles Barkley. Early versions of this game have him in it. He was taken out in later printings of the game because of his involvement at the time with Barkley Shut Up and Jam.

Here's the usual wonderful gallery of photos.

NES 2, Light Gun, Kung Fu, Golf, Super Off Road, R.C. Pro-AM, and Rad Racer

    1995 Game of the Year

    NOMINEES
    Destruction Derby (PS)
    Final Fight 3 (SNES)
    Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (SNES)
    Mortal Kombat 3 (PS)
WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game (PS)

1995 Game of the Year: Mortal Kombat 3
    Runner-up: Destruction Derby

Most people would agree that none of those games listed above are worthy of even being nominees for Game of the Year and I would have to agree. However, these were the only ones that were listed on Wikipedia for a 1995 release. Chrono Trigger was one of those games, but obviously I can't choose that game since I just started playing it.

Purely for just the amount of time I put into each of those games, MK3 reigns supreme. It was and still is an enjoyable port of the arcade game that I recommend above all other ports of the game.

The best way to sum up Destruction Derby is that it was Burnout before that series got started on the PS2. Probably the best two things about this game was the track Crossover and the Destruction Bowls. It was great fun for an early PlayStation game.

    Previous entries: 1985 | 1986 | 1987 | 1988 | 1989 | 1990 | 1991 | 1992 | 1993 | 1994

    RPG Got!

Out of all of the votes from Giant Bomb, GameSpot, and Gametrailers, the top 3 in the end were:

    1. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES
    2. Chrono Trigger
    3. Final Fantasy VIII

Now remember that I said that the voting was only to help in my decision making and that I wouldn't necessarily be playing the one that gets the most votes.

I decided on playing the fifth place game, Beggar Prince. The game itself seems like a lot of fun and I'm sure that it is, but after some time I couldn't stand that there wasn't any text in the inventory menu to identify what some of the items were. The bread was obvious, but most things weren't.

To rid myself of that annoying problem I switched to the SNES and started up the great Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. Just kidding. It was Chrono Trigger.

Here's how the rest of the final standings came to be after the voting.

    4. Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
    5. Beggar Prince
    6. Final Fantasy
    7. Final Fantasy IX
    8. Dragon Warrior III
    9. Chrono Cross
    10. Final Fantasy Origins
    11. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
