    Vacationing in Packer Country...

It has been ages since I have last blogged. I am currently in Door County, Wisconsin on vacation so it seems like a good time to post some thoughts. Random topics follow...

    - As I am so close to Green Bay it makes sense to start with Brett Favre. I am not the biggest NFL fan in the world and when I am paying attention/cheering for someone it is normally for the Bears & Cowboys but I have always been a fan of Brett Favre as I love his toughness. I have been sad seeing the way things played out with him and the Packers this past week. As I am currently about 70 miles from Green Bay I have heard a number of Packer fans discussing Favre this past week. It seems like the opinion of all is that the Packers made a bad mistake and their GM will be gone soon. I don't know about the GM's future but I agree that this was a mistake.

    - I have had some of my best ever PC gaming experiences in the past few months. First was Portal which I absolutely loved. I am a sucker for a good puzzle game and the humor that was in Portal was incredible. My opinion is the same as many others as Portal won tons of awards last year. I can see why and I agree completely. My most recent game was Space Rangers 2 which I also loved. For some reason this game really hit my "gaming sweet spot". The game is a space strategy game with some RPG elements (as you upgrade your pilot's abilities and your ship's components). There are also some mini-games that show up as quests that are of RTS, text adventure, and arcade action form. These mini-games were not my favorite part but the main game which has you upgrading your character, exploring the universe and fighting space battles (pauseable real-time) until you are able to defeat the robot "dominators" was great. I really had fun with this $10 purchase that I made off eBay. I am not sure what I will be playing next but I can't imagine it providing the fun that I had in these 2 great games.

    - I can't wait for college football to begin. Go Sooners. ('nuff said)

    - Lots of new music purchases recently by Switchfoot, The Fray, Hawk Nelson and Stellar Kart. I also took my younger daughter to a Corbin Bleu concert a couple of weeks ago. Definitely not my first choice of a concert to attend but making her day was priceless.

    - Vacation has been good though I would definitely prefer to be at an ocean beach in 95 degree weather than a Great Lake beach in 75 degree weather...

    A Most Excellent Week!

No new gaming news but I am having a lot of fun none the less. Last night I was able to take my daughter and a friend to see the Newsboys in concert. What an awesome show!! I was also excited to see Rush of Fools since I have been a fan of theirs since I heard their first song. They did not disappoint me at all. I am sure they will be headlining a tour not too far in the future. I also really enjoyed the opening act, Article One. Overall, it was a great concert.

My other big interest (outside of Christian music, gaming and football) is Oklahoma high school hoops (see earlier post on this). I am headed to OKC later this week to watch the Oklahoma small school State Tournament. The girls team from my high school will be there for the first time in the history of the school (79 years) so I get the pleasure of rooting them on. The boys team didn't make it this year but has been there 2 of the previous 3 years which was also the only time in school history. This is definitely the highest level our teams have ever been at. Go Lady Whippets!!!! Win it all and shock the world! (or at least the itsy bitsy piece of the world that is into this...)
