    Political Outrage

    So to start this I will say that I am not going to tell you my particular political agenda or who I do or do not support outside of I did not vote. I live in Texas in in Texas the electoral college will always be Republican. This is not something I am concerned with as for me, its not about the party they support, its about what they plan to do. However, my parents are what you could call extreme Republicans. Knowing what my parents know about my ideals and lack of voting I saw an opportunity to send them a bit of humor right after the election. I sent the following text message;

    The good ol red, white, and BLUE! LOL

    That was answered with this reply from my wonderful step mother the following morning; GO **** YOURSELF without the bleep of course. I was absolutely astonished! Never have I heard her act or respond passionately about anything! She is apparently so passionate about this particular election that she would say something like that to the man she raised from the age of 6 years! My father on the other hand remained reserved about the issue and saw the humor in my statement.

    I just find it truly baffling that people can get so worked up about things they have zero control over. Please dont take that sentence as an opportunity to try and educate me in the working of voting as I am very well versed in it and know exactly how it operates (notice I did not say works.) But to act like that to your own family just, wow.

    Battlefield is finally fun and The Witcher 2 is made in Mexico!

    So after many months of grinding my way through prestige after prestige I finally found myself bored with MW3. I knew this day would come and I am sure I will pick it up again at some point. But in my boredom and quest for another shooter I have purchased another copy of Battlefield (Easter sale at gamestop). In these passing months I am happy to report that they have finally fixed most of the major issues I had with the game in the past! Sniper rifles are still garbage but everything else seems to work well! So hurray for that!

    Being I have been playing nearly nothing but shooters lately I got a craving for a genuine RPG. So I forked over the cash for the Witcher 2. Now normally I would write a review of my opinion of the game, but I haven?t played it. I got off work at 6am and stopped over at Walmart to get it. I got home, opened it, put the disc in and a nice soundtrack begins to play. Strange I think... so I eject the disc to find it is only an audio cd. I flip the little tray in the case to see two spots for more discs, but they are empty. Stranger I think... then I browse CDprojects site to see if there is some kind of download associated with the disc and the extra storage is a packaging error. Nadda. Now I?m getting flustered as I purchased the game from Wal-Mart and I know they don?t take them back if they are opened. So furious and hopeful, I pursue my only option... and hope they are willing to make an exception for me. To my surprise they do take it pack in exchange for another copy and even tell me "It has been happening a lot." So I get there last copy, take it to the customer service desk and the nice lady behind the counter advises me to open it there. I do, and to my surprise it contains an audio cd like before, but no game... again! Unfortunatly that was the last copy they had. Again to my surprise and an unexpected amount of humor from the obviously Hispanic customer service lady she says "Well you get what you pay for," while pointing at the fact that the game was made in Mexico (as listed on the back of the box.) I lol'd.

    I really tried Bethesda!!!

    So I purchased Skyrim.

    No, that's not going to work, let me try this again.

    I hated Oblivion. From the fish eye lens view of all the people in the world to the guards telepathic like communication between cities regarding your crimes, oh and don't forget the pink vampires *shudder*. The game was just… well, not for me. The only thing I did like was how pretty the environment was and the soundtrack. However Skyrim seemed like one of those "everything is going to be better" games. I have run around in it for about 2 hours now and… I hate it. With the clunky, mechanical, and overly stiff character animations when they are talking to you or one another and the ridiculously vague sense of purpose and direction I just… oh man how do I put this…

    It has bored me to tears. I am going to continue playing a little more before I make any final decisions about this game but… my god is it boring! It is one of those games (thus far) that feels like an MMO where I am the only person on the server. For me this is a very very bad thing. My immediate impulse is to cause as much havoc as I possibly can just to make something happen! Which being all of level 3… is not a good idea. Additionally I wish I knew what the heck my main quest was. So many people have handed me so many to do lists that I don't know up from down. The sense of depth when in combat is funky too. Something can be hitting you from what appears to be 10 feet away at times. With a MELEE attack where the enemy has arms all of 2 feet long! LOL. Man that is frustrating! Granted I have yet to actually be killed by anything, but I have spent many a combat scenario thoroughly confused on the how of it all. That and running my butt off!

    As expected from Bethesda, the soundtrack is great and the environments can take your breath away from time to time… But I just can't help but feel like a game this big and this beautiful wouldn't have cut short the work in areas like animation and mechanics. I really really wanted to like this game! I still do! But so far the short and sweat I have is this is a beautiful but boring and broken bug fest. With the spectacular review that Bethesda's games always get I am really forcing myself to see what it is others are raving about… but thus far… *sigh* I am blind.

    EDIT: 12/31/2011

    Okay so I purchased another copy because I knew, there had to be something I was missing. After quiet a few more hours into the came I am actually (and finally) finding it quite fun! The game is not perfect, I still think the characters social animations are recycled garbage and everyone talking to you at once gets really annoying... but overall, the other glitches in the game make it a lot of fun. Such as sitting on a large rock and picking off a giant at level 3... One issue that I do find gameplay affecting is the magic. There is no easy way to tell the distance of my spells aside from firing them until they hit something. Some moments it seems to be about 10 feet, other times its more like 15-20... annoying.
