  Low scores for not using all features???

  Okay, so what I don't understand at all is this whole business of games
  having to use all features of a system.  A lot of DS games [and Wii for
  that matter] seem to be getting their score docked for the mere fact
  that they don't use all of the features or use the features well
  enough.  That doesn't make sense.
  
  If
  a developer has a game idea, they don't necessarily have to change that
  game's gameplay just to use all of the features.  Final Fantasy III got
  its score lowered because it didn't use the touch features enough.
  
  Now,
  I can understand that this may happen if the features are used in a way
  that hinders gameplay, such as slow response or inaccurate response,
  but why do they have to use them?  The Klonoa series [a personal
  favorite] uses the same number of buttons for gameplay in most of the
  series itterations; left, right, up, down, shoot and jump, and even up
  and down aren't always used in every game.  Now, if a Klonoa title
  comes out on the DS, does it have to use both screens in a balanced
  manner, as well as the touch screen and whatever buttons you can press
  with your free hand?  Why should it be given a lower score if it
  doesn't?
  
  My point is, gimmicks are gimmicks, whether a revolution in gaming or a simple selling point.
  
  Don't chastise a game because it doesn't "fulfill the system's potential," and let designers decide the method of control.
