    monsters look out

Well, it sure has been a long time since I posted here. I did wind up getting Warhammer, and it was alright, just not exactly what I had been hoping for. I would gladly sacrifice story for a better overall strategy game. But, it was alright and I did play it to the end. As far as Monster Hunter goes, as much as the game is a great deal of fun, I took some time off from it, I guess just because the game is so time consuming, and very intense to play. There are moments playing this dumb game where my palms start sweating, heart speeds up, it is very intense.

About 3 weeks ago, I decided to jump back into monster hunting, at first I was afraid I had forgotten everything, but I was surprised how quickly it all came back to memory.

The first monster I fought was the Gypceros, I had fought one before long ago and beat it, this time it definitely seemed easier probably a lot due to the stronger armor I made from the Khezu after I slew him, also maybe I knew what to expect from the game, as I had all the necessary gear all ready, some experience to draw from. After him, I fought the Yian Kut Ku, again, it was a much easier bout than I had expected, and I dispatched him pretty easily. So it was time for the urgent quest, defeat the snow dwelling humanoidish creature, the Blangonga. The last time I fought a blangonga it was not easy at all, and this one was bigger and more fierce. But, again, I had some experience to draw from, and managed to finish him off a lot easier than expected. Defeating the Blangonga means gaining access to level 4 monsters, including some pretty interesting ones like the Yian Garuga, which is a black and purple colored Yian Kut Ku that is about 10 times more dangerous. I have yet to defeat him. There is also the Monoblos which is a pretty cool looking triceratops headed sand creature, something called a Kushala Daora, which I have not seen yet, a red Khezu which I have not attempted to fight yet.

Here are the most recent stats:

    Attack 667

    Defense 266

weapon is black katana mark II

As incredibly trying and hard as this game can be, I think I really prefer it that way. It is definitely not easy, the stronger you get the more strong and more huge the monsters are. Currently I am trying to defeat a Rathian dragon creature, and while I get very, very close to doing it, just have not delivered that final blow yet. In the end, I prefer the challenge of the game though. Killing a monster is really a relief, and you feel like you actually earned it.

    Monster Hunter journal update

Well, I certainly continue to learn more about this game, and how to play it, and I did get that sword that I was hoping for, a lot more easily than i thought, as it turned out when you kill a "boss" landshark, you are rewarded with a ton of it's teeth, so I was easily able to make the sword, upon slaying the one big shark. Sand sharks are a lot of fun to hunt as they spend most of their time under the sands, but if you slice at one's fin when it is under you, it often comes up to do some fighting. As is the case with all the monsters I needed to hit it with a paintball, so I could track it when it ran away to go rest up when weak. I surprised it while sleeping and was able to make the hunt a success.

So I had my new sword, which is pretty neat, it is really more of a sickle than a sword. But even with this, the Khezu was still extremely strong, and able to inflict so much damage on me, that I spent upmost of the time, either drinking up potion to restore health points, or getting knocked unconscious and running back from the camp to fight him again. That is when I realized that I needed stronger armor as well to be able to stand against the Khezu. So for the past 10 or so game sessions, I have been just focusing on making the armor stronger. I now have a defense of 196 and an attack of 624. I am loaded up with all kinds of potions and power seeds, and currentlyin the middle of a battle with a Khezu that I have marked with a paintball so I can track him. And of course, the PSP battery goes dead...

So, as soon asit isfully charged I plan to go to battle with the slightly weakened Khezu and this time finish him off.

As soon as I finish this guy off I am expecting all new things to happen, new comments from the townspeople, new items for purchase, and of course tons of new quests.

Will I finally beat the Khezu? While he is not dominating me like before, it is still a tough match. One mistake, and he is able to drain half the health. A couple mistakes and I could be knocked unconscious. But so far, am doing a very good job of attacking him when he is open, and avoiding his energy attacks.

    That was Saturday,

    Monday night update:

Turns out i did not kill the Khezu as I had hoped i would. Just as he was very close to dying he let loose an intense energy attack and I was not able to recover from it, and had already fainted and come back to fight 2 times, so that was it. That is when I knew that I had to rethink my technique, I now know that my helmet and armor mail were not providing me protection from hiselectricity, and were the reason i was killed so easily by his massive last resort energy blasts. It happens, that there is a creature that lives in the swamps, which is like a giant purple turkey dragon thing, and his skin is a very good rubbery hide, perfect for going up against electricity attacks. So, I had to kill him, which I did after 2 unsuccessful attempts. This game can be very hard.

Step 2 in my rethinking my strategy was a new weapon,a sword that does much less damage per hit, but can be swung very fast compared to the sickle which sometimes is slower than mollasses to swing. I upgraded it to a fire sword, since Khezu is all about ice and cold.

And yes, at last, tonight I beat the Khezu. None of these monsters want to give up, they totally fight and fight to stay alive, and often they get help from other monsters. It can be extremely frustrating, andintensely challenging. When I actually saw Khezu limping, I knew that he was going down. I just kept slicing away at his abdomen, ala button mashing, which in this case, was very effective and he fell with a cry.

The funny part is that when I spoke to the village chief, she was like "there are a lot more monsters out there than just one Khezu" like you aint seen nothin yet chump.
