Not exactly surprising. Of course there are going to be girls who are subjectively (to the viewer) attractive playing games in the world, that aren't in the public eye. That's just common sense.

*sigh* I had a nice Thanksgiving. How about you? I visited my nephews who give me hope for the future because one is thirteen, the other is 6. They love Mario and Zelda and though the 13 year old is now at the age where his parents let him play some M rated games, he doesn't use the game rating as a measure of quality. The little one is infatuated with Mario, Sonic and Link and that makes me happy to see young ones love something I loved as a kid.
But I'm not here to talk about that. No, because apparently this is a thing. The whole "fake geek girls" so much that I found 3 articles on this supposed "issue."

Yes apparently as gaming is becoming more and more mainstream, it wasn't enough for idiots to hate on grandparents enjoying Wii Sports and housewives playing Farmville, now it's time for teh hardcorz to hate on what is essentially just another marketing campaign. The idea that companies show off pictures of "hot girls" as a cheap marketing ploy to get horny guys to buy stuff. I don't understand how this surprises anyone. "Sex sells" has been a mantra of advertising since advertising existed. Of course some poor guys have been led astray by the likes of Olivia Munn, you know this pretty girls who give you the impression they're into comics and games and are hardcore into it as you but then you find out they weren't and it was just a ploy to get you to watch. That's call Capitalism.
Now I'm going to do something that for the 5 years I've been here. I'm going to show you all what I look like. There were a lot of reasons I opted not to post my photo. I like my anonimity. I like that people read my blogs because they like what I have to say, not just because I'm a girl but in light of these recent events, I feel like maybe it's time to show my face. Look upon the face of a girl gamer.

Yes this is really me. This is not some picture I found on google. This was taken from my Facebook page. Now in fairness I do wear glasses, just this particular day I had my contacts in. I almost thought about setting up my camera and wearing my glasses and one of my video game t-shirts but then again, I shouldn't have to do that to prove myself. Right? You read my blogs, reviews, posts.
I posted my pic in light of the fact that basically I don't look like the stereotype of a "gamer." I'm not fat, covered in acne or well...male... for that matter. Heck even when I say I'm into video games I think I get second looks or the assumption that I'm one of those "casual" gamers who just plays Facebook games and Wii Sports and I say "no I do play gamer's games." What's more shocking is I play games more than my husband does.
Once I even saw a comment someone else copied from another forum where some idiot said "all girls who play games are either fat, ugly or depressed and the 1% who aren't are on TV." And these guys really get on my nerves. These are the same guys who then can't seem to figure out why they can't get a girlfriend. FYI being an ignorant moron? Kind of a turnoff.
So in the end, just because an attractive girl shows an interest in comics or video games, doesn't mean that she was hired by the corporate machine to con you. Yeah she might not have encyclopedic knowledge of the entire Batman universe but I'd think guys would be happy to have a lady show interest.
You know what? I didn't even want to do this as a blog. I was going to write my top 10 list of characters that should've been in Playstation All Stars Battle Royale. But no, this was getting to be such an issue I had to put that off.
