So Sony's big PS4 announcement. Yadda yadda yadda. Has a controller that reminds me of the Dreamcast controller with its little screen. Fancy specs, Cloud crap and all this social intergration I don't care about. Scanning through announcements...

It's like a dream. The last thing I expected to see out of any next gen console was a cute, colorful new IP. Wouldn't it be wonderful if this game was a big hit and cartoony platformers dominated gaming once more killing all the grim and gritty shooters.

nothing wrong with grim and gritty shooters. its true, market is oversaturated atm with those fps. but i wouldnt want, as you said, "kill all grim and gritty shooters".
The presentation was awful. The game doesn't look like a hit. The only reason the game exists and opened the presentation is because it's producer is a big bird and the system's main architect.
From the looks of your statement you forgot about Little Big Planet.
And no, cartoony platformers dominated gaming because of 1 thing - the tech was not sufficient back then to make fun gritty games. Their time has passed the instant people learned that they can do games that look cinematic and leave the audience in awe.

@kbaily @Midnight_Twelve @Morphine_OD get yourself a hankerchief and get ready to cry, because here are the statistics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films as you see - cartoony movies make significantly less money and for every cartoon that succeeds there are 10 that fail miserably and 10 more traditional movies that make more money. And this is the only stat that influences big companies - the overall amount of money earned. Unless I see 9 cartoons out of 10 highest grossing movies of all time, there will be little to none interest in cartoons from business side and it will always be a niche product.
Large brands regularly make cartoony games like LBP, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper and Mario. And look at them fail before another Call of Duty or Battlefield come. The only platform that is ruled by cartoony graphics is Nintendo, but only because it doesn't make any other decent titles and it's tech side has been too retarded for this until recently.

Wasn't so impressed, but then the last clip came. I don't know why, but the way Knack turned small, and the boy approached him ever so carefully, while obviously being amazed - and Knack seemed abit confused (or something), it just looked so real somehow! Like you could reallly feel it! I'm interrested in the seeing what's gonna happen!
1 Like dude you must not own a ps3 or xbox 360 they have many games that are not dark if you want every game to be a cheap cartoon then just play wiiu and only wiiu i know for a fact ps3 is not just all shooting games with dark settings did you ever hear of games like ratchet and clank, sly cooper ,little big planet,calling all cars, fat princess,journey and the many many other ps3 and xbox 360 games that are not shooters this game knack is just another great looking game from sony ....nintendo blows end of story
@emptycow Hey dumbass, I do own a PS3 and have played some of those games you mentioned, I was just amazed to see a NEW IP that wasn't grim and gritty.

The current gamescape IS dominated by three descriptors; dark, gritty, and FPS. Accept it. Just because other games exist does not change the fact that they are overshadowed by the COD generation

@emptycow yeah you don't own a Wii U, and obviously you're an f'ing hypocrite, talking about looking for games outside the mainstream, yet has no idea of the massive library of rock solid games for the Wii, that are not only great games for the system, but some of the best this generation has to offer.. but whatever, your loss
i though the game looked amazing and i honestly can't wait to play it myself or see some demo's of the gameplay mechanics which is for one always exciting to see
It's always exciting seeing things that connect to you like that. I felt like that about Dishonored and then I couldn't get into it, hope this one delivers for you!
The concept looks interesting, but after seeing the boring game play they previewed of it, I'll wait and see. I'm afraid of another Kameo.
@kwagmeijer Well yeah it's a bit early to tell. This is just a CD trailer after all. I ended up playing Kameo a year or 2 after it came out and for me, it had so much untapped potential. Like it should've been better than it was.

It reminded me of Kameo: Elements of Power (which I loved!). Probably the highlight of the night for me.
1 Like I thought the *best* thing about the whole (non)event was the fact that Sony included left-of-field developers, and actively promoted intellectual properties that *weren't* all about action-centric photo-realism.
Although, perhaps that speaks more of a paucity of choice.
17 Like @vatorus Well, you see, some people don't think the shooty shooty bang bang games that think brown and grey are the only colors in existence aren't all that. Some people actually like fun and imaginative games that have charm and humor.

@SloganYams @vatorus wut? Witty, fun and imaginative? Knack doesn't look witty and fun. Is it imaginative? Looks like a rip-off from ant man. Knack of all titles doesn't show to have charm and humor - it's far from Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and Sly.
It didn't really look like a platformer to me. More a puzzle adventure game. Still, it's exciting and was a fine start to the conference.
The thing is that those specific yadda yadda yadda made me sceptical towards the PS4 in general.
1 Like Sony can do both the adult stuff and the Nintendo'ish stuff, and with quality. That's what makes them special.
That's the only game I didn't get to see during the 2 hour presentation because I missed the first 20 minutes! I might have to check out videos of it.
