"Read it and weep," Debora said. "My midterm scores were flawless."
"Yours too?" Mischa asked.
"Let me see those!" Debora said. "No way, we tied? Then, who's treating whom?"
"I guess no one's treating anyone," Mischa said. "Did you still want to go?"
"I suppose we might as well," Debora said.
"Well, I aced my midterms," Melanie said. "My lowest grade was a 93%. How about you?"
"Guess who aced her maths!" Kitty said.
Melanie hugged her. "Congratulations. I was hoping you would."
"So, what's my prize?" Kitty asked.
"Tomorrow night we are going out on the town," Melanie said. "I'm taking you dining, dancing and then, maybe, back to my place."
"You mean our place," Kitty said. She nuzzled against Melanie's chest. "Hey, do you think this'll last forever?"
"What?" Melanie asked.
"Us, like this," Kitty said. "Since we started dating there's just been so much... magic. Will it always be like that?"
"Yeah," Melanie said. "It definitely will."
"You think?" Kitty asked.
Melanie nodded. "When we're ninety we'll still be every bit as in love as we are right now. I'll still get excited when you take my hand and we'll sneak off away from the nursing home as often as we can to spend time alone." She stroked Kitty's hair. "Your eyes will still be full of energy and passion and I'll still wonder why I was lucky enough to get you."
Kitty shook her head. "No, I'm the lucky one."
"I can't believe your grades," Amanda said. "You're smarter than this. I know you are."
"Hey, I passed," Leonard said. "Isn't that what counts?"
"It's not just about passing," Amanda said. "It's about putting in your best effort. Can't you just do that once?"
"It doesn't matter," Leonard said. "A diploma is a diploma. Besides, my effort is going into the tournament. The next round starts soon."
"I suppose it's going to take you away from the club for a while," Amanda said.
"Maybe a little," Leonard said.
"Sensei," Kody called.
"Yeah?" Mischa asked.
"I did really well on the midterms," Kody said. "Mostly As, one B."
"Well done," Mischa said.
"Hey," Kody said. "Are you excited for club activities to restart?"
"Yeah," Mischa said. "It has been slow for a while."
"Any plans for events?" Kody asked.
"Not really," Mischa said. "We'll definitely do some stuff before finals, but I haven't really planned for anything specific yet."
"I'm sure you'll think of something fun," Kody said. "Maybe you could take suggestions tomorrow?"
"We're actually re-opening the day after tomorrow," Mischa said. "Almost everyone has plans for tomorrow. Melanie and Kitty have a date. Leonard is going to the next round of his tourney and Amanda's going to support him. Debora and I are going to have dinner to celebrate our grades."
"Oh," Kody said. "Well, don't worry about me. I'm sure I'll find something to do."
"You always do," Mischa said.
Poor Kody, looks like there's a little more time before they all get back together. Will Kody find something to do? Will Leonard win the next round? Will Kitty and Melanie really still be together when they're ninety? The more practical of these questions may be answered next week in Soniczero's blog.
