so yeah, the site is up...kinda. we are yet to make a logo so we just have a rubbish text banner, but we have got some content up there and are going to be updating it like crazy over the next few weeks to get it all done and dusted.
for those who don't know, De-Frag is a PC gaming site me and a friend are building, and are hoping to expand as time goes on, we will have reviews/news/forum and eventually a podcast which you users can take part in as a host! the basic stuff is there, so feel free to check it out just to get a feel for the place, although there is still a lot to do so expect regular improvements!
Are you a PC gamer, looking for a great source for all your PC gaming needs? do you want to be able to interact with a community of people who are in to the same things as you? are you sick of the ever degrading coverage given to the PC? well listen up...
Me and a friend are starting up a brand new website called De-Frag which is going to be entirely PC centric. I, for one, am getting sick of the continuousely poor coverage of PC games in the giant Gaming websites of the world, and while i still have much love for gamespot and its community, i am deciding to break off to create my own source of information, a website made FOR the PC community, BY the PC community.
Here's the deal, we will be running a fairly simple website (at first) which will have a news page, for all the latest updates in the PC gaming industry, a BLOG, for me and other moderators to edit and form as time goes by. Not only that but we will have a fully working Forum for the community to chat together about the thing we care for the most, OUR PC's!
If the site gets up and running smoothly and we get a decent community together, we will also start a fort-nightly podcast on all things PC, firstly it wil be run by me and my friend, however as weeks go by, if there are people on the site willing to take part such as you, you too can get on the podcast as a host!...like i said, for the community, by the community.
Also, we aim to have regular reviews of PC games up as soon as we can finish them after nabbing them off the shelves!, however, im not made of solid gold, i cant afford every single PC game that comes out, which again, is what you guys are for! in the forum we will have a space dedicated to all you who feel you can write a good review of the games you buy and love, if it is deemed good enough by the collective audience, it will go into our archive for all the users to see, and YOU will get full credit.
added to all this, we will be sure to make full use of the PC's applications such as Xfire, Steam, and, if we can afford it, a Ventrilo/Teamspeak server. Using Xfire Clans we can form a PC gaming collective and make a bunch of new friends who just wana play games. this may lead to game nights etc, but again, this all depends on the popularity!
Interested?
we hope to have the site up and running with its core essentials over the next few days/weeks, the site's growth will depend on popularity, people like you who want a no BS, no System wars look at everything PC related. As of yet we have gained control of the domain: www.De-Frag.com and in a short time, we will hopefully have it occupied!
if you feel like you would want to be a part of this, a founding member even, then please, let all your friends know who may also want to take part, together we can help the PC stay as a competetive force in this industry!
thanks for your time,

well its about time since my old banner was a pile of A$$...
this one came out surprisingly well considering the naff software i used, although i couldnt get the exact right dimensions so i ended up with a banner which is 136pixels high instead of 140 hence the small gap ![]()
so what do you guys think?
....except i just bought the candy shop.....o.O
well today 9 packages came for me in the post, as you could imagine i was quite surprised to see it all piled on my bed when i got home from college. the reason being is that i had fnally cashed in on some of the money i got fro christmas, and so piled on my bed was a digital camera, a 1gig memory card for it, and 7 DVD's, predator, predator 2, alien, aliens, MI3, duel and the good the bad and the ugly....
ahhh, this should all keep me busy for a while...
so what have other people got round to spending their piled up whads of christmas cash on?
As many people know, this fall has seen an extremely large number of high profile, high budget and arguably high quality games hit the market, in my case, my pc. Unluckily, im a struggling 16 year-old college student stuck right in the middle of it, and i have gained an addiction....to the buying and never-ending playing of games!
in the past couple of months, I have bought Bioshock (£25), Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts(£25), Colin McRae DiRT (£20), Call of Duty 2 (£15), World in Conflict (£20) BFME2 collectors edition (£20), Rainbow Six Vegas (£15) and I have just ordered Gears of war from play.com (£27) and will be picking up my pre-ordered copy of Call of Duty 4 from Game tomorrow when it hits the shelves over here in England (£30)...
Ok, so over the past 2-3 months iv spent just under £200, which lead me to realise the horrifying truth that I have an addiction to PC games...
after looking through the trusty "12 steps to recovery" I realised that I don't think ill ever slip past step 6, condemning myself to an entire lifetime of the uncontrolled purchase of games, but here is where I have got so far:
Step 1: We admitted we were powerless against games - that our lives had become unmanageable.
I have realised what my problem is, and being a full time college student, im kind of stuck in a never ending battle between slugging over my Physics coursework or nuking pesky Russians on world in conflict. Now that's what I call unmanageable.
Step 2: Came to believe that a power greater than us could restore us to sanity.
Just got my first college report, whilst mainly good, there were a lot of comments regarding the phrase "should do more working at home". I think this is god sending me a message...
Step 3: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood him
Erm...yeah
Step 4: Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of myself
"Moral Inventory is a "fact-finding and fact-facing" process
I found out the fact that my bank balance is not going to withstand my constant attempts to buy crisis on release, I then faced the fact and broke down weeping....
Step 5: Admitted to god, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs
Well, I told my mate during a lunch break, he laughed and we then went to Game where I snagged World in Conflict for a very tasty £20...shame on me!
Ok, so here's the tricky part, so far I have been unable to get past this step, this obstacle...its just too hard to get over!
Step 6: were entirely ready to have god remove all these defects of character
No! just no! How can I??? just look at what's coming up, Crysis, unreal tournament 3 and later assassins creed, followed by Starcraft 2, the very game I have lived for these past few years...what can I do? What is there to do?
It seems I'm stuck in a rut, while I'm a terrible games addict, I just cant knock the habit yet...I dunno, maybe If I leave it until next November...I might find something else to occupy myself with, is anyone else here a ravenous gaming addict?
For over a year onw i have been watching gameplay footage, reading previews and "hands on" impressions from other people (mainly gamespot) until now. i, along with a huge amount of other people, have finaly got my teeth into the demo for this hugely anticipated game, and well, the only thing i can say is WOW.
although the demo only covers the first mission of the whole game, its definately atleast 45 mins of gameplay, and has the potential to be twice that in one sitting for the more adventurous among us. without a doubt, the main reason this game has got so much publicity and hype is because of the graphics, and they really do deliver! i have accepted the fact that my machine only has the nads to run it on medium (with a few setting on low and a few on high) but im still impressed by the visual quality, i admit it bring back a lot of far cry related memories but this is just so much better. trees break realistically, things blow up like they should and plants and bushes bend as you move through and around them, its all just so much to take in. the only thing i do have a tiny annoyance with is that you get a rather annoying shimmer with all the trees in the distance, although im sure this would not be as bad if running at higher resolutions.
besides the graphics, this game still manages to raise the bar a little on the standard fps. the nano-suit is the main reason for this and it makes the gameplay fit the player. if you are a typical run and gun player, then hell, shift the power to defnese and go all guns blazing, however if you are the stealthy player use a combination of cloak and speed to out manouver your enemies and catch them by surprise. on the other hand if you just want to do a bit of everything, and use the environment, the physics allow you to do so. watching a tree land on a guys head is kinda satisfying, shooting the gas tank on the back of a jeep causing it to blow up and collapse a nearby enemy hut is downright hilarious. there really is no limit s to how to dispatch of your enemies.
as you can probably tell, i have only praise for what i've seen so far, i totally cant wait for the retail release, so if you havent already, get the demo now!
