  New Emblem, Level, and Review

  It might look like I haven't been around much, but that really isn't true. I'm still here, but just haven't really had the motivation to blog or comment on everyone else's blogs... most of the time it's because I'm just too lazy. Or in this week's case, I was simply playing Mass Effect 2. And it doesn't help that I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, and I have this inane need to make every blog specially formatted and grammatically correct - nothing can ever be casual. It makes blog writing a bit of a chore. Anyway, point being, I'm still here every day, just not for hours and hours like I was at the beginning of last year.
  
  
  
  To start things off, I reached level 43 a couple days ago as well as receiving the Best of 2009 emblem, putting my total at 54. As you might have noticed, I decided to make my font size a bit bigger - hopefully now things will be a bit easier to read.

  
  
  

  As mentioned before, I purchased (and beat) Mass Effect 2 this week. And wow, what a game. I'll spare you all the details, because I have a review started that I hope to finish today (EDIT - finished), but even if you have a fleeting interest in role-playing games or third-person shooters, you need to pick this game up. The graphics... amazing. The characters... amazing. The story... pretty damn good. Don't believe me? Check out the critic's aggregate score - a 9.6, second on the 360 only to Grand Theft Auto IV. I'll quote from Kevin VanOrd's review: "Mass Effect 2 is the kind of game that you return to, not just because it's fun to play multiple times, but also because its universe is a place you wish you could call home."
  
  I also wanted to mention that starting mid-February, I'll be gone for a week or so on my yearly mid-winter break vacation. This year, we're going back to Hawaii, so it should be a great trip. I mean, who doesn't love Hawaii?

  Early Winter Update

  So, you're probably wondering where I've been for the past couple of months. Well, you can blame school for that - it's been keeping me extremely busy. Actually, right now I'm taking a much-needed break from studying to write this. Seems like if I'm not having a test on oxidative phosphorylation in AP Biology, I have a test on differentiation in calculus, or a test on the War of Austrian Succession in AP European history, or a test on les verbes à deux racines in French, or a literary analysis of Vonnegut's Harrison Bergeron in composition... I'm pretty sure you get the point - it's crazy.

  
  

  

  
  

  I guess I should get used to it though, as I got accepted into Michigan State's Honors College, which is pretty prestigious; you needed to be in the top 5% of your graduating cIass, have above a 3.9 GPA, and above a 31 on the ACT. It's good news, but it means I definitely won't be "skating by" in college. So, in the free time that I've had, I've been playing a bit of Modern Warfare 2. Right now I'm level 54 on the first prestige, with slightly over 13,000 kills and a 2.42 kills per death ratio. A couple days ago, I also reached level 42 on the site - I'm now a "Karnov."
  
  Today, I also learned that in early 2010, Gamespot will be entering a partnership with Raptr. I think that's pretty cool, considering I've been a member of the site for awhile, and I like how it can track all the games I play and achievements I earn. What do you guys think?

  Fall Update

  Long time no see Gamespot. Hope everyone is having a pretty good fall. Things have been decent here - I just haven't had the motivation to post or otherwise spend much time on the site... you can partially thank Lost and Borderlands for that. For all those who commented and said that Lost was great in my last blog, you were definitely right. Sure, Jericho was good, but Lost is better. I watched all five seasons of the show in less than a couple of weeks thanks to the wonders of Netflix. Needless to say, I can't wait until the show wraps up with season six in 2010.

  
  

  

  
  

  Other than Lost, I picked up Borderlands on the 20th, and finished it today, the 25th. It was a decent game, but nothing more than filler until Modern Warfare 2 comes out. The gameplay was good, and so was the game's hybrid graphics styIe. The paper-thin story and terrible ending, however, were not. I'll be writing a review soon (hopefully), but my recommendation is to rent this one first.

  School is still going okay - a little less busy, too. I finally sent in all my college applications and got accepted to the college of my choice - Michigan State University. I'll also (presumably) be attending the Honors College to study pre-med. And with that said, Lost fans, I'll leave you with this.
