Up next, the idea is to play Metal Gear. I just realised that March is going to be really busy, so I might take games out of order, but I'm going to do my best. I'm suddenly thankful for the delay for the Last of Us.

If you're interested, heres a link to my other blog with thoughts on the Academy Awards and other reviews I've posted. I really thought Beasts of the Southern Wild and Zero Dark Thirty should have gotten more credit and less credit for that idiotic romantic comedy Silver Linings Playbook.

A lot of great games to choose from. Fallout 3/NV, Mass Effect 2/3, Uncharted 2/3, and Red Dead are among the highlights of this generation. I'd highy recommend tackling all of them before the next gen hits. The clock is ticking! :P

@dylan417 the clock is always ticking for me - I'm playing the new Metal Gear now!

Nice que, hope you enjoy Dishonored. So far this year in gaming, I've stubbed my toe, and drank a few cups of water.

@iowastate I got quite a few up this month - I'm doing good!

finishing isn't nearly as easy as starting, I'll give you that ;)  I am working on a cross-stitch for my mom...slow going ;)

I am jealous, I haven't been able to focus on any game lately.

Dang, you're busting out the games! Well done!

I really should keep track of the games I beat as well. At least it would feel like I was denting my backlog a little.

@-Saigo- I'm trying!  I felt like I got ahead, but then I picked up some new games and got behind again...but Bulletstorm for $2 was too good to pass up, and same with Sticker Mario for $20...it rarely drops under $30!

Dark Souls is one of the greatest video games of all time, if not THE best, and Revengence, as I stated in my blog, is holy.

You should try KH BBS too.

Poke , haven't you gotten sick of people always asking just for Dark Souls? That's a game that takes a HUGE amount of play time to complete. I mean , we expect another gaming update in less than a month , not after half year.

@Darnasian that one is on my PSP, so I can pick that up at any time.  I still have a bad taste in my mouth from KH3D.

ha, not really - I think I could play it and play other games, but it would be tough.  I just picked up Bulletstorm used, so I might give that a go after Metal Gear :)

The emphasis on action over horror was what made Dead Space 3 suffer and now I'm not even sure I want to get the game right away :(

Oh well, in a few days, there's going to be Tomb Raider.

@Asagea_888 I'd wait - I mean, the price has already dropped here once down to $40.

I'm going to wait on that one - I never played Tomb Raider before, so I can wait it out, I think.

I'm glad Daniel Day Lewis got Best Actor, he's probably one of the top actors today.  I thought they'd give Best Director to Spielberg but I'm glad Ang Lee won.  I definitely think Lincoln was a much better movie than Argo.  What's interesting is how Skyfall won for Best Song and Life of Pi for Best Original Score, (implying that Best Song has nothing to do with Best Score, which sounds funny.)  Shame John Williams didn't win for his score to Lincoln, he's a legend.

@Allicrombie he deserved it for sure!  I didn't even catch that - interesting and kind of curious!

So... Dark Souls?

pokecharm

@stephenage ha, you and Dark Souls...I'm getting there...but remember, I said I wanted to finish 2013 games in 2013 - so Metal Gear first :)

Seems a fair assessment of Dead Space 3.  It just hasn't appealed to me at all, at this point I am not even sure if I will ever pick it up, my backlog is ever growing and it is waaaaay down there.

As for the Oscars, I am behind on movies too.  I did enjoy Django Unchained and particularly enjoyed Christoph Waltz performance in the movie, having not seen any of the other nominated actors movies I can't say if he deserved it any more than the other nominees.

I also haven't seen Silver Linings Playbook so can't comment on Jennifer Lawrence's performance.  One thing that did occur to me though was that perhaps her nomination & subsequent win were motivated by "fashion" or perhaps political motives.  I know the movie has a central premise around mental health and that subject is one of much debate at the moment... just a thought.

@wavey_gravey mine just got longer in the span of less than a week...but Bulletstorm was $2 used!

I think it is because she didn't win for Winter's Bone, so they give her one now - but I didn't get the impression her character had mental issues, just Bradely Cooper's character...

I gave Dead Space 3 a 4.5. I hated everything about that game.

Brave won best animated movie? -___-

sigh...

Daniel Day Lewis deserved his Oscar. I knew he was the one who'd win it when I saw the movie. His acting was brilliant!

@fend_oblivion I can't say I hated everything, but it disappointed me.

I did see that.  My issue is why is JLaw winning for a romantic comedy?  I mean, really?  since when did rom-coms get oscars?

@pokecharm I don't know. I read about SLP on imdb a bit and even that summary was enough to dissuade me from bothering with it.

Fair comment on Dead Space. For me the worst thing was the story. The second the big reveal about convergence was made i heard Obi Wan Kenobi's voice in my ear "That's no moon!' and i had to laugh. And yeah, it sort of forced you into constant combat. For me the lowest point is was climbing the cliff, where you take the rope upwards, kill a bunch of necros in ice caves, then repeat about four times over, it just would not end.

Hope you enjoy Metal Gear Rising! I loved it (finished it today) but it is quite short (comparable length to Vanquish, but it has great replayability, at least for me) so it shouldn;t take you too long.

And yah, the Academy Awards seemed a bit weak. I'm a massive movie buff, but i can honestly say i didn't see most of the big name films, nor did many appeal to me. And yeah, the Silver Linings Playbook seems like a standard romcom with forced quirkiness. Zero interest whatsoever.

@Katzenbalger I really expected more from Dead Space...I mean, 2 was decent, when did the wheels come off, right?

I hope I do!  Wow, you already finished it!  I blame a rather busy weekend on not being able to get to it...

I only did because the local theatre was showing many of them in one go.  Silver Linings was just bluster...I didn't understand the craze over it, or JLaw getting awards for her performance, which was just blah to me.

@pokecharm @Katzenbalger

EA forcing in co-op and cover shooting certainly didn't help DS3, and honestly the fact that they didn't even bother to mix things up that much was disappointing, what with the recycled enemy types and samey locations.

I got Revengeance friday, and put in about two hours every day or so. It's not long, but it's great fun. There's also a bunch of challenge rooms to unlock, bonus costumes and weapons and the like so it's got good replay value.

I'm not fond of Lawrence. I think she's weird looking (her cheeks are always shiny like she's been sweating and she wears too much eye makeup). Also, more relevant, i haven't seen anything she's been in where i thought 'hey she's a good actress'. (I hated Hunger Games, but then again i'm not the intended audience).

@Katzenbalger you're not missing much, I'm sad to say - but they were easy to read, which is what YA is all about ;)

Katzenbalger
Katzenbalger

@pokecharm @Katzenbalger I'm not familiar with the books (at all, never heard of them until the movie came out) but the film itself just felt like an incredibly dull, toned-down version of Battle Royale. It felt like she spent the entire movie sitting in trees, waiting for other people and sloppy deus ex machina to save the day (seriously, every time she's in danger somebody or something comes to save the day; first the little kid in the trees, then the giant guy with the machete saves her, then medicine freaking parachutes down right when she needed it). As for her, i dunno i wasn't feeling it. I know somebody who's read the books and put things into context, but her whole 'acting out a relationship for the cameras' thing felt way faker than it was probably meant to.

@Katzenbalger I didn't feel the sameness until I got to the ice planet, then it was all way too familiar and none of the familiar scares.  The set pieces were nice, but like RE6, it was just all too much.

Wow, that fast - that's good though, my next game up is God of War, out early next month - I need to get ahead of the queue, if I can!

I saw Hunger Games...to be fair, the story is weak for the series.  She's decent in it - but it didn't impress me.  I saw Silver Linings, she was even less memorable in that.
