I hate cheap bosses in games... just another reason to hate RPG's with the words "Final" and "Fantasy" in the title... memo to SquareEnix... boss battles should not take the best part of 45 minutes to finish... that is wrong... just plain, flat out wrong.

So having to get over my Minecraft addiction I turned to a game I got from GOG.com for $5, Faster Than Light, or FTL. I really want to like it - it is a rogue like strategy game so dying is part of the fun right? Well I agreed until just recently, my most recent attempt at beating it actually caused me to rage quit.
It took time to get good at the game, making sure I could maximize my playthrough and get to the final boss. This last playthrough I was golden. I didn't even take damage the last few sectors, I had max power, shields, guns, etc. The work. Everyone on my ship was a gold expert at something. I had a boarding party, extra scrap - I mean this was the time I was going to win.
As I got to the final boss and beat him - unscathed - I laughed at the game little bit, I knew I would get good at it, but I didn't expect a slaughtering like I dished out... then the game said F*ck You and bent me over so hard that there was nothing I could do. I mean, it is okay for games to be hard, but cheap? Yeah.
For a game that gets so much press at being good, I'm sorry the game doesn't want you to have fun. It is 7 sectors of pure annoying to maximize your ship (I thought it was fun to do this at the time) but to get to sector 8 and watch it all go up in smoke. wow. So much potential for a game... instead it turns into a simple game of chance.
Now mind you... difficult games are not the deterrent here. I have beat Battletoads, Zelda 2, Contra, F-Zero GX, and more for crying out loud in the past. I don't mind spending time to "beat" a game...
Time to switch back to Minecraft.
EDIT:
By the way... I finally beat the bugger. I just got a lucky enough run and finished it out. I have very little desire to ever play it again. But now add that to the list of hard games I have beat. Maybe I should not complain much anymore, but really, I just don't see a reason to subject myself to this sort of broken design anymore.
